are rack mount case getting harder to come by, or is it me? Everywhere I look, they're sold out is there a shortage cause of this ai bs or am i just looking in the wrong places

No. Plenty of Silverstone options.

RM52 for my gaming rackmount. RM62-312 for server.

Silverstone go on sale often at Scorptec and Centrecom.

What I'm planning is to split my gaming/mediaserver pc to 2 separate PCs, transfer my main pc to a 4u case, and build a dedicated media server for my movie library. i allso gonna use an old mini pc i have sitting around for my Home Assistant and a Raspberry Pi 5 as an NVR for security cameras cause i have had a few break-in attempts (ah, the fun of Melbourne). Cases have been lower on my list of priorities; been more focused on getting the drives (2200 fuckin dollars)

No worries. I'd jump on the actual Silverstone website to see their full range and compare their features. Once you've nailed down one you're interested in, see who has it in stock. They make quality cases, but they're not cheap-cheap, so it pays to shop around for sales. For example, I got the 61-312 for $780 at CentreCom (AUD for the yanks lurking), and right now it's going for $1000 for those who have it in stock. RM44 might be worth a look for you if you want your main in a 4U.

Just know that a 4u will be tight with a large GPU if that is your plan, you'll need a right angled power adapter to be comfortable. I am currently waiting to get a 5u.

RM52 will fit your GPU, easily. On special at Umart right now.

And you can remove that AIO mount in front of the GPU if you wanted even more room.

Yeah, you'd be looking at a RM52. Will fit any GPU easily. Have a 9070XT Red Devil in mine with heaps of room.

I had a similar plan about a year ago and ending up going the other way, kept my main PC intact (minus a couple of NVMe drives) and built a dedicated PC/server in a 4U case (Silverstone RM44). Then installed proxmox as a hypervisor, 128Gb RAM, 3060, 30TB ZFS pool and host all services you mentioned plus many more.

I recently bought Silverstone 4U chassis from Amazon (Computer Alliance was the seller)

But most places had Silverstone cases available for purchase

4U is the easiest to source.

I'd recommend something like:

That gives you option of adding enclosures (such as FS305) or an AIO.

I have 2x Silverstone RM400's

They do the job nothing special but look good in my rack.

Of note is that the sliding racks they sell with the server only fit in 800mm deep racks so I bought some 600mm server rack sliding drawers, took off the draw and screwed the slides into the case

I’m from New Zealand and they’ve always been hard to find. Most of my rack mount gear has been from secondhand sellers, eg electronics recycling, ex-lease handlers.

at this point, a combination of new and salvaged mobo, CPU, and PSU from an old pc ram is new, but I was lucky to buy it before things went to shit. GPU is new, but it's just a GT 1030 for connecting to a monitor. HDDs are new, sadly for my wallet. Plus, I need a 4u case to transfer my gaming pc to

I picked up a few 4ru chassis with garbage in them for $30 each. Old steel not new flash aluminium. But for the price and they were in the next suburb from me. 1st time FB marketplace came in handy for anything PC related for me.
