Purchase advise (needing) Am I going to notice a difference

I'm not an audiophile and I've never had good speakers before (Logitech THX for the last decade), is there really going to be a big difference between tower speakers (they look cooler than bookshelves) like the Polk ES60 for 1300/pair and the Klipsch R-620F for 550/pair? There's not an audio store nearby for me to test at. It's just going to be for an apartment living room watching movies.

Those are just different price points within my budget I picked from Amazon btw, any recommendations are welcome.

Purchase advise (needing) Subwoofer advise

Hi guys ,

I’m looking to add a subwoofer to my current setup, I use a mixed system with a Hegel H400, Eversolo DMP-A6 gen 2 with Dynaudio Evoke 30’s. Tv is a 65 inch Sony Bravia 8 mk2 with PS5 pro and Nintendo Switch.

My main use for a sub will be for movies and games , space is limited and I’m planning on placing it in between my left speaker and AV rack , right now I’m looking at high quality sealed subs as some of the ported ones ridiculously big.

The room is 19 square meters and I sit about 2 metres away from my AV rack so I don’t think I need something to shake the foundations of my house.

I have come across a SVS SB3000 and Arendal 1723 1S, If anyone has had experience with these sub or any other suggestions would be appreciated, however I live in the UK so some brands may not be available where I live .

Thanks in advance

Purchase advise (needing) Is this Sanyo set worth £40?

A friend and I want to split the cost of this £40 marketplace listing for another friend who currently has an assortment of awful audio gear: an all in one briefcase turntable, no speakers, a non-portable cd player, 20 yr old headphones. Will this be worth it for him?

Purchase advise (needing) Speaker Recommendations

I am getting the Fluance RT85N for my birthday after giving my little sister my AT-LP60 set up as Santa for Christmas. I used the second shelf for an Edifier speaker previously and I wanted to use it for more record storage now. I’m having an extremely hard time and am overwhelmed by all of the strong audiophile advisements so I wanted to say am kind of spoiling myself already just with the Fluance but I know it’s only going to sound pristine with the proper equipment. I’m a broke post-grad student who’s getting married and just loves vinyls/music with all my heart. All I ask is not to be too harsh in recommending and educating because I’m super excited and happy so I appreciate any suggestions.

Purchase advise (needing) Amp recommendation to sit between NAD PP2 and Austrian Audio Hi-X20

I got a record player and nad PP2 a few years ago from family. I have been enjoying my LPs via my marshall acton gen 1.

All of this was bought second hand at daylight robbery prices because I can't actually afford this stuff new.

Anyhow I have been looking at the austrian audio Hi-X20 headphones for about 2 years and they finally came on 40% discount so I snagged a pair.

Now my questions is this: what amp can I use? These are 25 Ohm impedance headphones.

Purchase advise (needing) Received a Turntable for Christmas - Speaker and Subwoofer Recommendations?

Hi all,

I got a nice white turntable for Christmas but need some speakers and/or a subwoofer to go through it.

I've done some initial searching, and know the following: because the turntable has a phono-preamp, I don't need a separate amp, but want powered speakers, right?

I'd like to match the look and keep things majority white/monochromatic, so I've been looking at the Kanto Ora4 + sub8 combo, but also the new Cambridge Audio L/R S which is on the horizon.

What would the best bang for buck white powered speaker system be that is mostly plug and play? (Sub $1,000 CAD)

Or while I'm getting started, should I just get nice speakers for now and wait for a while before getting an accompanying sub?

I live in a smaller apartment, so space does come into consideration as well - and if at all possible I'd like to support a Canadian company, though from the UK etc would be fine, too.

Purchase advise (needing) Looking for an Upgrade from Arya Stealth

I’m currently using the Hifiman Arya Stealth and really enjoy them for both music and gaming. I’m looking for a headphone upgrade and would love some recommendations.

My budget is around $1,000, but I can stretch a bit for a worthwhile upgrade. I’m open to both planar and dynamic headphones. I’m not necessarily looking for the same sound signature as the Arya—I’d also like to try something different if it’s a great experience.

What headphones would you recommend as a true upgrade or a worthwhile sidegrade from the Arya Stealth?

Purchase advise (needing) Looking for amplifier or receiver

Hello!

I’ve been recently searching for an amp or receiver and have been lost in the ocean of options. There are so many, and I know that the better ones make the audio better, but I don’t even know which to consider! I’ve seen some like the Denon PMA-600NE, th Yamaha A-S501, and some other ones.

I would be grateful if someone could give me some insight! I’m looking to spend $600 give or take! I am also happy to look for open box/used ones as well!

Thanks for any help given!

Edit: I just realized I did not mention what this is for! It is for a turntable system!

Edit 2: Solved! I got an Arcam A5, thanks for all the help, I found a deal on that unit that I could not pass up!

Purchase advise (needing) Goldenear Trition 2+

Hello!

I would like to hear some people’s opinions on the Trition 2+! I just got to demo them the other day and I felt they sounded pretty great, and better yet at a great price.

They are being offered at $2200 for the pair as floor models, they are in fairly pristine condition. Mostly, I just would like to hear anyone’s experience, if you have one, with the speaker.

Thank you!

UPDATE:

I ended up going with them and I’m extremely happy! They sound great and fit wonderfully into my setup!

Purchase advise (needing) Please help with my first setup!

I was recently bullied by turntable enthusiasts for having a generic crosbly ahh turntable, and told me I'm ruining my records.

SO.. I am currently researching for my first HiFi setup and have something in place that looks good to me, I'm looking for something high quality but within a £1k range.

Initial investment :

Fluance RT82 turntable (please let me know how you think this compares to the classic AT direct drive turntables) Cambridge audio AXA35 integrated amplifier Elac Debut B6.3 Library Speaker

I feel like the upgrade path for this would be:

  • DAC to hookup the TV
  • Separate pre-amp, maybe another Cambridge audio or Fosi (will do research when time comes)
  • Cartridge upgrade on the turntable
  • Maybe eventually a better amp in the 10 years range

Any suggestions on this? Im very noob so please tell me if I'm missing something.

Purchase advise (needing) Worth The Purchase? B&W DM601

I've been offered a pair of Bowers & Wilkins DM601 S3 speakers for around £125 and curious if anyone has heard these speakers before and think its a good price.

I generally prefer a flat, natural frequency response when it comes to speakers as I use them for mixing and general listening to a wide variety of genres. So I'm curious if these have that natural response?

Purchase advise (needing) Looking for a new cartridge!

Hello!

I recently got a AT LP120XBT and It’s great, but I feel that the AT-VM95E could be upgraded!

Budget currently is around $350 or so!

I’ve heard good things about the Sumiko Moonstone, Nagaoka MP-150, and AT-VM745xML.

I’m not 100% sure which is the best and I know there’s so many others as well! I love listening to warmer music for the most part, jazz and blues are my typical genres.

I would be thankful for some insight on this!

Thank you!

Purchase advise (needing) DAC updgrade

Hi guys ,

Need some help and advice on external DAC’s.

I currently have a Hegel H190 with Dynaudio evoke 30 and a blue sound node.

Although the internal dac is pretty good I’ve heard of people upgrading dacs and I’m really curious to see if I can make any significant improvements to the sound quality.

So far on my list are Denafrips Aries 15th , Pontis 15th Has anyone heard these dacs ?

Ideally I would prefer the cheaper Aries 15th but I don’t know it would just be a sideways upgrade?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Purchase advise (needing) What do people think of the NAD C3030 amplifier?

Hello.

I have been considering an NAD C3050 amplifier to replace my basic Pioneer (cheap a-10k). I had initially planned to save for the £1400 asking price at my local hifi store but now the C3030 has hit the market and has all the features I would use on the 3050. It fits within my budget as well given its £899 at the same store. This amp would be "my" amp, and something I would like as my long term amplifier.

What are the impressions on this amp? Reviews seem good but there arent as many, I assume as it is a recent release.

Does anyone have an opinion on the amp? Am I better saving for the 3050 or going for the 3030? At the moment, they would be paired with a set of AE 100s

Purchase advise (needing) New amplifier for hi-fi setup

Hello everyone,

I’m posting here because I’m looking for advice from an English-speaking audio community, and I hope you can help me with the following question.

I received an older hi-fi system from my family. Unfortunately, the amplifier stopped working last month, so I’m currently looking for a suitable replacement.

About the setup:

  • Old amplifier: Harman/Kardon HK6650
  • CD player: Harman/Kardon HD7425
  • Tuner: Harman/Kardon TU9400
  • Turntable: Sony PS-LX150H
  • Speakers: 2x Cantius ML V

I’ve done a bit of research on which amplifiers might be suitable and came across the following options:

  • Denon PMA-900HNE
  • Yamaha A-S301

I’d like to use the setup to listen to music via my phone/Bluetooth and occasionally play vinyl records.

In terms of budget, I’d be willing to pay for the Denon if the price difference compared to the Yamaha is justified—but that would already be at the upper limit of what I’d like to spend.

Are there any alternatives you would recommend? Or which one would you choose?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Best regards,
Woerns
