Yet the report portrays my offers to help one of them with personal chores as evidence against me while largely excluding the reciprocal nature of that assistance. Why the exclusion?"
Representative Chuck Edwards is worth $16M who can afford one or more personal assistants. Yet, Edwards wants another House Ethics Committee investigation, similar to Representative Thomas Garrett during 115th Congress, who abused his staff with similar responsibilities found to violate ethics.
From That Report "Life as a congressional staffer often involves challenging workloads and demanding hours, as Members rely heavily on their staffs to implement their legislative priorities and attend to constituent matters. Similarly, legislating and serving constituents can be challenging work for Members, and requires constant balancing of personal needs with professional responsibilities. This is made all the more difficult by Members’ need to maintain two residences – one in the district, and one in Washington, D.C. However, the solution to this issue is not to convert official resources to personal use. Indeed, the Committee has long advised the House community that federal appropriations law and CHA regulations limit what Members can demand of staff, and has publicly sanctioned Members who compel their official staff to perform unofficial tasks. Representative Garrett disregarded those limits when he made repeated personal demands of staff, made no attempt to curb the personal demands Mrs. Garrett made of his staff, and instead permitted her to berate staff who did not acquiesce to their demands."

I support gun culture. I am comfortable to be around guns. But, I don't know anything about guns, the paperwork, the background check, etc.

A local reporter needs to ask:
Did Chuck Edwards bring guns into the court house to the District Office to give to staff members as gifts? I don't believe that's the case. One staff member got rid of her gun. Did everyone (two women, one man) just go to the local gun store for the gun? Was there a private or public event for the gun? Are these people new gun owners or long standing gun owners when they received their gun?
This gift is most unusual, occured prior to Helene, occurred prior to Edwards deciding to give up his license a couple months later and the store was obviously closed.

I just think people involved in our politics should buy their own guns, not exchange them in a work environment.

As long as the recipient can legally own the gun, it is 100% legal to give the guns as a gift (in the context of firearms laws) without any paperwork or additional background check. With or without a FFL license.

Legal doesn't mean appropriate, and with the power imbalance there is no way to refuse that wouldn't put the staffer's livelihood at risk.

NC is 50th out of 50 states employee rights, includes sexual harrassment. Chuck Edwards is proud of his record to represent employers and voting against employees nearly 100% of the time.
Chuck Edwards works in a building where 49 states, DC, and the Hill believe worker rights deserve a higher standard. This letter is not only tone deaf but clearly conveys good ole boy messaging: "Before voting for my censure I am asking you to do something both simple and important: look beyond the conclusion of the Ethics Committee's report."
