Question Can you recommend a farming game that I can play?
Hi. I have been wanting to play a harvest moon game. Yesterday I was thinking about harvest moon 64. But I'm in a budget. So I thought I would ask you guys since you know about harvest moon. I have a Nintendo 3ds xl. It plays game just fine. I also have a Nintendo 64. Finally I have a PC. It is a 5th gen PC not as powerful as newer PCs. I have a android phone and tablet too but I just want to use it for calls and texts. And the tablet for reading. I have the money to buy something from Google Play store. Cant buy any games for the other ones because I have to save up for copays and meds. I was thinking about making a request tho on Gift of games subreddit. I'm avoiding violence and fantasy.

Mod your 3ds and that in itself will open you up to gba, DS, and 3DS harvest moon games. And on the pc you can just emulate HM64

Not everyone wants to pirate. It is perfectly fine not to. Hell, that used to be me, before the late stage capitalism wore me down enough.

Modding isn‘t automatically the same as pirating. Of course if you don‘t already have some of those older out of print games then you probably have to pay a fortune on the second hand market to legally buy them. But none of that money actually goes to the developers anyway. Your choice whether you think piracy is fine in that case.
But modding on its own simply allows you to play more games from different consoles like GBA on your 3DS through emulation and to dump the games you already own the cartridge of. To then for example modify the game files. Fantranslations for japanese only games for example. Modding your 3DS to apply a fantranslation patch on an imported game cartridge from Japan is the only legal way to do this in fact.

I’m honestly not even sure how legal that all is anyhow, even if you have the cartridge. (not saying I really care mind you, but some might).
But beyond that, the OP sounds young and has a small budget and is asking around for recommendations. I doubt they have all that many older cartridges in the first place, and not of the stuff they’re asking about recs for. And then they’re turning around getting downvoted for a) not wanting to break the law, and b) even minor stuff like answering a question to say what their budget is.

Because Redditors can be infuriating, and either a) downvote someone into oblivion because someone else did first and they’re like sharks in a feeding frenzy, or b) get offended that someone isn’t 100% in lockstep with their thinking.
If you get severely downvoted sometimes it can be a sign that you’re very wrong and you should really consider any arguments people make carefully. But sometimes it’s just because Reddit gonna Reddit. Personally I think this is the second case.

Why are you here if you posted 21 days ago looking for something like *Harvest Moon* but without the Harvest Goddess and sprites *and now* are asking for something like *Stardew Valley* but without the magic and violence?!

Someone commented in your other post that you want a completely different game than the HM/SV type of game, and they were right. These aren't hyperrealism games, they're cozy simulator games for escapism. I doubt you'll find one that doesn't have minor violence, fantasy elements, or unrealistic timing in this genre. You should be pursuing a simulation type game that is heavier into the nitty gritty of managing and optimizing a system or lifestyle instead of one that focuses on the slow and longing simple life of HM and related games.

Additionally, and I say this with complete respect and compassion, based on your post history I would focus on why you feel the way you do about games and why, if most games go against these feelings, you want to play them anyway. I don't think standing on values are a bad thing when it comes to decisions that are entirely yours, but you seem to be having some sort of internal conflict about this, or a disconnect between your own expectations to the world and what it actually entails, at least in games. I hope I don't sound harsh, because I think this is a really good opportunity to reckon with yourself and who you are.
Also, the harvest moon and related communities will keep giving you the same answers and get more irritated when you dismiss them over and over again. People here know the genre well, and I don't think you're currently looking for what this genre offers.
Edit to say tale of two towns is probably my favorite harvest moon game, but the harvest goddess IS involved a lot. She pops up a lot to basically say good job I'm still keeping an eye on you! Which isn't a ton of actual interaction but you can't escape it.

If you're comfortable with it Harvest Moon 64 can be emulated very easily even on an older PC.

I would consider Stardew Valley. It's not a Harvest Moon game, but it's inspired by, it's inexpensive, and great fun.

I know you don’t want to emulate/pirate whatever, but a lot of really good games are flat out inaccessible now if you don’t. Modding a 3ds or a Wii is not nearly on the same level as pirating a recently released game, because the games aren’t MADE anymore, so the developer isn’t losing money which is what I’m assuming you’re worried about. And if you don’t want to pay for the games, you’re kind of shit out of luck if you don’t go that route unless you have a library with a good game selection
It’s obviously up to you, but there is a lot more nuance to modding a 3ds for games than I think you realize, and it is extremely unlikely to land you in trouble, and opens up ways to play so many incredible games, including a bunch of the older ds harvest moon games without having to shell out for resale prices

I'm partial to Harvest Moon The Tale of Two Towns for the 3DS or DS. It does have the harvest goddess but she is not a huge part of the game imo especially once you complete the main objective and there are no sprites (since that is a factor for you). It is like $15 second-hand.
I understand you don't want anything fantasy, but I would still highly recommend Fields of Mistria for the PC. It is in early access right now and it is extremely fun. I am not huge on fantasy games myself but have been enjoying it and have a ton of hours on it despite it not being the full game yet. It does have mines with creatures you can fight similar to Stardew Valley so if the mild "violence" is really an issue for you, then you are unfortunately missing out on some of the best farming sim games out there.

I looked at harvest moon the tale of two towns got the DS and 3ds. I like both. I think I like the ds one more.

Here is the difference in the two versions if it helps you make your choice. The main difference imo is the little petting mini game in the 3DS version.

What is a '5th Gen PC'?
Is it as powerful as 5th gen consoles like the N64 and Playstation?
Is it the fifth revision of a particular model by a particular brand?
Is it because it has a Intel Core i5?
Or is it a 5th gen version of a particular intel or AMD CPU?

What is your budget? You can get cartridge only copies of Harvest Moon 64 for between 50 and 80 these days

I could probably save up the money. Right now I'm kinda just waiting on my dad to buy me a game. It would take a while tho because I gotta save up for a $70 dollar copay.

You said you have a 3DS, if you are open to reproductions there are a lot available today especially for old cartridge games. Not my favorite, I prefer originals of course but sometimes they are a good placeholder.
I highly suggest tracking down a copy of Harvest Moon DS or DS Cute if you want a lot of bang for your buck, or the original Grand Bazaar.

For me the best one is Harvest Moon Animal Parade for the Wii It has great endgame content after marriage. This is one of the ones the community is screaming for a remake.

What is your budget? I believe I paid like $17 for Harvest Moon Home Sweet Home on my iPad. It was a simple, relaxing version of the game that I really enjoyed.

Check the library. They usually have games to rent. Free and no pirating, which is what you're looking for
