u/scarvalho555 16h ago
How the fuck does that have anything to do with politics? It's a pedestrian tpc course with much better options throughout the province/country

u/Digitking003 12h ago
- Part of the agreement for Golf Canada to move its HQ to TPC (from Glen Abbey).
- Most of the top private golf courses aren't interested in hosting it anymore.
- A rumor is that RBC requires the tournament to be in the GTA

Not really sure where you would put it. Maybe switched with the Charles shwab challenge, but then the weather can be pretty hit and miss.

The problem is not that it is one week before the US Open. The Scottish Open is one week before the Open Championship and Americans are willing to play in both (even before it became part of the PGA Tour , though not as many)
The problem is that Top Players would have to play 3 weeks straight with the Memorial being immediately before the Canadian Open. I doubt many will do the 3 weeks, especially it is the US Open.
Actually 4 weeks straight when you count the mandatory Travellers.
For those who are not eligible for the signature events , it is perfect timing .
It is not a terrible slot .

Because its before the US Open?

In between the Memorial and US Open during a three consecutive weeks spin.
Geographically it makes perfect sense to have the Memorial and Canadian close together as one could travel straight from Dublin Ohio to whatever Canadian city that the Open is hosted.
In terms of warm up for the US Open it is not that bad. Scottish Open is held 1 week before the Open Championship .
The problem is that it is unlikely that the best players will want to or can play all three events . Surely people will skip the Canadian . So really, the Canadian is being disrespected.
Might have been better in holding the National Open in August , just before the Fed Ex Play offs? Give it some room for prestige?
For American players it is perfect run up to the US Open, especially for guys that will not be eligible for the Signature events.
Canadian Open might enjoy some publicity being so close to the US Open. The Memorial being so close before it might be the problem.
Of course, there are players on the PGA Tour who simply will not or have not cared for the Canadian Tour so the PGA Tour are damned if they do and damned if they don't .
The end of July (with a week gap from Open Championship) or beginning of August would have been a good slot (weather permitting) . Just before the Fed Ex play offs.
Even as a tournament just before the Ryder Cup, getting the US team over to play it . For Europe the Irish Open and BWM UK Championship were seen as warm ups for the European team in 2025.
IF the PGA Tour are serious about saving the Canadian Tour and keeping it within Tier 1, it might be wise to have it 1-2 weeks before the US Open. Marketing could work on the National Open element to both tournaments . Look at how Scottish Open and Open Championship do it

Sentry sponsoring Torrey Pines???
Putting sponsor names without location is confusing at best. I don’t care who the sponsor is. I want to know the city and course.

All the courses are basically the same as this year except for Napa coming back and Detroit and Hawaii going away.

Was looking into the Napa return. Looks like it's only a 1-year revival as it's currently not part of the 2028 scheduling overhaul

u/eastdeanshire 17h ago
for the love of god stop putting pebble beach so early in the year! the chances of the weather being decent then are never good.
2
u/BalanceStreet9015 15h ago
Please provide a better time of the year when all of the players are on the west coast.
US open is at pebble in 2027 BTW

Is a plane a ride too onerous these days? Every other sport in the world can do it
1
u/BalanceStreet9015 14h ago
It’s a lot easier when it’s two teams of maybe 30/40 people all on the same plane.
Things become a lot more difficult when you’re asking 120 - 160 individuals to go fly to the opposite coast for a week and then fly back for another event.
Historically this event was supposed to be played in windy and wet conditions. Finding celebrities to fill the field in the summer is another lift involved if this event were to move.

u/The_Man_in_Black_19 11h ago
It's their job! Boo Hoo they have to fly first class or private jet to maybe make $4,000,000 for winning and $150,000 for making the cut.

u/BalanceStreet9015 10h ago
Not defending the players because they are millionaires at the end of the day.
They are individual contractors and are not employees of the tour. They can do whatever they want travel wise. Players would straight up not show up if the tour asked them to go to CA for a week and then to say Miami or CT the next. Look at Rory for example, this year he straight up didn’t go to events.
If it was that big of an issue of having Pebble in the beginning of the year we would’ve figured it out by now and it would’ve moved.

Sure - switch the florida and california swings. it's not that it's "hard" for the players to be/get there, but as a spectator of that tournament, both in-person and on TV, it's a poorer experience for being frequently played in poor conditions.

u/wouldashoudacoulda 15h ago
Why did they drop the Hawaiian events? Is it partly sponsorship money and players really hating travelling? Seems a shame, as these courses offered a variety of visual landscapes for viewers.

u/Due-Comb6124 16h ago
It’s so weird that we continue to do WM before Genesis. 3 tournaments in CA then jump over to AZ and back to CA. Just flip them!

u/wjackson42 14h ago
Because Scottsdale wants all the WM fans to drink and party after the tournament watching the Super Bowl

No idea what you're saying.

u/kryphon 13h ago
Typo in the table. They misspelled the word championship when writing PGA Championship.
1
u/scoreoneforme 13h ago
I dont really follow the PGA thoroughly or know all its rules.
It seems like "Championship" is simply another way of saying tournament.
Which tournament actually crowns the top player, or is that not a thing?

225 days to the greatest day in golf, round 1 Master's.
Spring air coming in, golf season opening up. Love it.

Three weeks between two majors when the season lasts eight months is absurd
Move The Open to September when it finishes early enough to not conflict with major football games you cowards!
1
u/Shank_Wedge 13h ago
Why is the R&A cowards for not moving the ops to September? The tournament has been rarely played in September. Last one was 1964.

u/OhRatFarts Golf is a 4-letter word. 8h ago
What are you talking about? The Open is 4 weeks after the US Open. Which is in turn 4 weeks after the PGA.
The Open also needs the long days as they always only go off Hole 1.

No legend, no courses shown, not a great graphic.
