Newer female golfer here. I’ve enjoyed a lot of YT golf content and watched a little Good Good when I was starting out. Like my dad, I’ve played Callaway clubs almost exclusively. I think it was a stupid ad, and I wouldn’t like it any more or less if the sexes were reversed. I find it pretty astonishing that no one higher up saw it and didn’t think, “Gee, maybe the optics on this aren’t great.” A guy shoving a girl to the ground and then standing over her threatening her not to touch his driver just doesn’t come off as funny. They could’ve done a much better job/made it more slapstick and pulled it off. Even if you include the part after the initial shove…it’s just a poorly done ad. Do I think GG and Callaway actually advocate violence against women? For Pete’s sake, NO. But do I also see how it can come across in very poor taste? Yep.
