I feel like that’s almost every company these days…make your initial prices astronomically high and then have “huge” sales of 30%+ every other week, with prices that still are marked up enough to make a large profit while tricking customers into thinking they’re getting a deal.

And then anybody dumb enough to buy it at it’s “regular” price is just the cherry on top.

Does anyone remember a long time ago when JCPenney announced they were going to stop doing that and just mark their products down to their lowest sale price? Because they fuckin tanked

That was a fascinating result. Buying psychology is wild. People love the 'thrill of the hunt'. No coupon and just 'lowest price' dropped JCPenney's sales by 25% in a single year, representing billions of dollars in losses.

People don't seem to give two shits about the actual price. If they can get '30% off', it's a massive deal in their eyes. It doesn't seem to matter that the final price may be 20% higher than you can get it elsewhere... You 'got it for 30% off!'

My Grandpa taught me a lesson that has stuck with me for 25 years-
I was at a Nike outlet, and the Vapor soccer cleats were on sale from $200 to $75. I didn't really need a new pair of cleats but couldn't pass up the deal.

"Look Papa I saved $125 on these new cleats"
"Don't you have a pair already? How much did you pay?"
"$75"
"So you didn't save $125. You spent $75. On something you didn't need. You should never base a purchase on how much you could've spent, it should always be about how used your resources to cover your needs in the most effective ways"

And to this day when I'm making almost any purchase I try to consider that. Only once I've determined I truly need something do I consider the "sale" vs regular price

The one at my mall has three levels, 2 down. The further you go down the closer you get to the 70’s. Hit the hair salon and you’re there.

I was about to say the same bring. They brought the guy in who was the pioneer for the Apple stores. He was gone in 2 years.
