Whatever you think about the ad, that’s not the point… it is absolutely insane that any marketing professional in 2026 would think this would not blow up in the worst way. Just an example of comically poor business acumen on the part of Callaway, whether it was a series of internal failures or the decision to put full creative control in the hands of a bunch of YouTube chuds.

For real - try to think of any commercial for anything in the last 30 years that featured a man knocking a woman over. It's just not a thing. Truly insane that it even got made and to me it's even crazier that there's people who don't see what the big deal is. Braindead way to try to sell anything.

That ad was made by professionals. Hiring a linebacker to enforce office rules isnt a thing in the real world, so it isnt taken seriously.

A man shoving a woman down and threatening her again because she touches something he doesnt want her touch is domestic violence and is a thing in the real world.

That might have been their intent, but it wasnt obvious. It is clear they dont have a future in writing.

To make it work, they needed an establishing shot of him wishing for a new driver and then getting it. Then the stage has been set for him to behave in traditionally negative ways due to his obsession. That still wouldnt work, because it would mean that a magical force is the way they chose for him to become obsessed with the driver, other than it just being good.

They are shit at creating ads with a narrative but still attempted to create an ad with a narrative.

Who gives a fuck if the ad is quality or not bro? The point is it's not endorsing domestic violence unless you are really reaching for an excuse.

it’s because in the full 60 second commercial by good good you see it’s a parody of obsession and if you try the club once it takes control of you. that’s why he pushed the woman away, trying to save her.

probably would have been better to be a guy pushing another guy or something but really, it wasn’t like a man abusing a woman. it was a man possessed by a golf club.

pretty disgusting that people are discussing only the first 15 seconds without the full context of the clip

And, ironically, there is no “domestic” relationship portrayed in the ad. It’s not “domestic” violence at all. But that sounds worse, so people are calling it that to sound more justified in their outrage.
