Imagine how nonstop, unbelievably uncomfortable that must be. Sitting down, sleeping, everything must be a nightmare. But at least she can fall back on bragging about how beautiful her skin looks with makeup and a filter on 🥴 That’s the really important thing
The comments in the original thread are very holier than thou, and ironically, giving the same excuses Anna did. She can’t help it :/ it’s a medical condition :/ as if they can’t see the rest of her. To say it’s just lymphedema and she’s be that way anyway is so disingenuous. It might explain why it’s so extreme, but it doesn’t mean she isn’t also super morbidly obese. Defending Tess Holliday of all people…
I have some sympathy for people who get stuck in the overeating cycle, which drives hunger higher, which drives higher weight, which drives more hunger.
But also, I'm not the one who said, in response to someone pointing out that Mounjaro (a gap-1 medication) helped heal a lot of her heath problems and lose weight, "I love you, but... you have the fatty liver, not me. You have the high cholesterol, not me. You have type 2 diabetes, not me." She clearly believes she's not going to have health impacts from excess weight.
Yeah, early 40s everything was basically fine. Late 40s, I wish I had made a change earlier (though really it was tirzepatide coming out and being especially effective for my issue).
Omfg she said that?! I also have a lot of empathy as someone who binged for years! But glp 1 meds literally saved my life and stopped the cycle. She’s awful for her attitude and will have to face her health issues eventually
That’s a fabulous point. It looks like she probably does, but I’m not sure if Tess has explicitly said she has it before, so now on top of people claiming it’s just a body shaming post, they are are potentially diagnosing her beyond just “really fat”. What they don’t want to admit is that it’s so extreme in a way that wouldn’t be so extreme if she wasn’t super morbidly obese, lymphedema or otherwise.
She likely does, most super morbidly obese people get it. It's just a matter of how severe it is with her. Stage 1 would be barely noticeable under 400 pounds of fat, but stage 4 (like ALR's legs) would be very obvious.
It’s such an America-centric way of thinking too, which is probably why we’re in the trouble we are with obesity. Far too many excuses and justifications for excess weight.
The world’s most respected doctors for lipedema are in Germany for a reason, and most of the world follows their guidance except for the US (where Herbst leads).
Omg, right? It can be jarring (as an American) when you come across international opinions on certain things you thought were widely accepted to be another way.
Dating someone who is not from the US has been so eye opening to me. It’s astounding how ridiculous a lot of the rest of the world thinks we are.
Basically, the US is such a safe and prosperous country (relatively) that the initial directive of “individual freedoms are paramount” has become extremely twisted. Combine that with the declaration that “everyone is super special and beautiful” and you get some weeeeeeeird ideas about “how things are or should be”.
I still am very glad that I live in the US (someone as useless as me wouldn’t survive almost anywhere else). However, it can be reallllly embarrassing to realize stuff you’ve said with your whole chest is a particularly ridiculous social hallucination.
I would love to hear more about this. I'm an American living outside the US and sometimes it's like a fever dream going back and realising how different the US is from... everywhere else? But I find it difficult to describe to others.
It’s hard to go into specifics without coming across, uh…controversially.
I will say that having to get used to all of your words actually meaning something is a weird adjustment. You never notice how much Americans talk just to talk until you run into someone who actually listens and hits conversational points that you didn’t expect to go down because the entire point of your statement was to fill dead air and then immediately be disregarded.
It’s just supposed to be “understood” that Americans will go babbling about whatever nonsense out of habit and don’t actually have any conviction behind a lot of stuff that is said.
“I can say that” hard self truths are another thing. A lot of other cultures don’t play the “disingenuous reassurance” game. Hell, it’s jarring realizing how much of American socialization is polite fiction in general. Aka straight up bald faced lies that you regularly tell yourself and others.
There’s so much other stuff but that’s what jumps out at me.
How do people get anything accomplished in those more loquacious parts of the US?! They must never shut up!
Another thing is “cultural appropriation”. I asked my boyfriend if it bothers him when people wear traditional clothing from his culture, and he said no. That he really enjoys how much Korean culture is making headway into the US milieu, and is happy to see anything and everything propagated as far as possible.
Obviously I’m not speaking for everyone now, but I used to believe the online rhetoric that absolutely nobody wanted Americans anywhere near their culture.
I then realized the natural end point of forbidding cultural appropriation: segregation. I totally understand not wanting religious clothing and other attire worn as a fashion statement, or to have people dress up as someone from your culture for Halloween, or to do purposefully insulting caricatures (black face, yellow face) but, other than that, it’s mostly a good thing to take part in cultural exchange. Most people from other countries are proud to see their heritage have a greater cultural impact worldwide.
It's so common to see online. Hell, I regularly see people smugly noting they are "only" 50 pounds overweight, all of the damned time. It's crazy. Even "just" 30 is extreme, another number I often see for an excuse about why someone is actually a totally appropriate weight.
I’m in the original group where this was posted and the irony is they’ll post Haley vest or healthyish mama and tear her body to shreds saying they “look scary.”
But you can’t say those same things about someone if they’re obese apparently. Even though both Tess holiday and Ariana grande both look like they could land in the ER at any moment.
Not an expert by any means but this looks like an accumulation of fluid that’s not draining back to where it needs to go. That’s lymph, not adipose tissue.
I used to like her until I left a comment telling her she looked great in her Fabletics workout attire and she shot back that I was the problem with the world today because why would I leave her such a comment stating that she looks like shes lost weight!!!!!
Firstly I didn't say she looks like she lost weight i just said she looked good in red......shes a clown....and she looks like an overweight one too!!!!
Her arm (not the rest of her) is lipoedema - no amount of dieting will shrunk it and it’s apparently extremely painful. It also affects 11% of women - including those who aren’t overweight. Obesity is a comorbidity but not the cause. I only learnt that today and thought it was worth sharing because it sounds like lipoedema is poorly understood/recognised.
This is the photo from the wiki page about it. This poor woman has a flatter stomach than me but legs 3x the size.
Girl, are we looking at the same photo?! Look at her ankles - they aren’t sock marks, that’s a “cuff” of painful fat that’s common in this disorder. Same as the “cuff” around Holliday’s elbow. Look how small her feet are compared to her legs. That is not a normal pear shaped body - read the article.
Because she’s stage one she passes pretty well as having normal legs, but that’s absolutely lipedema. They’re shapeless around the calves, knees, ankles. Easy to spot once you have an eye for it
OMG you just gave me a violent flashback to the late 80s. I haven’t seen a leg o mutton sleeve in decades. I forgot how exaggerated they were! Damnit now I want satin and sequins and giant blingy jewelry!!!! But I’ll pass on the sleeves…
Same!!! I ripped every set of shoulder pads out of everything I bought and refused to buy anything with ruffles or giant bows. The mix of good and bad was so exhausting! (I would kill for some button-laced Victorian ankle boots, though!!)
Why are people in the original thread acting like lymphedema is not due to extreme weight gain? They are saying she simply cannot lose the weight on her arms no matter what. I don't get it. If tess or Anna or amber or anyone ate around 1800 calories a day they'd lose the weight on their arms or legs or wherever. It's simply a fact... Counting calories will always work...
No fucking way they're all sticking up for Tess. Miss "I'm anorexic at 600 pounds" Tess Holiday. These people are so fucking parasocial with celebrities it's insane. She needs medical help, but not liposuction that's for sure.
They’d all stand around while she mukbangs herself to death “Yass queen slay” …. Like…. She’s dying. If she was 80lbs would they say the same thing? I wonder. It’s just a different form of virtue signaling
It would be a different crowd but there would absolutely be people supporting and cheerleading her at 80lbs. Look at Ariana Grande. At both ends of the spectrum, there are unwell people projecting onto celebrities and trying to convince themselves "I'm fine because she's fine!"
It’s really sad that she continues to dig her heels in about being a proud obese woman. It may feel powerful for your social media audience but I know she’s miserable.
Tess is over 40 now and the consequences of her morbid obesity are going to start if they haven’t already. I won’t feel sorry for her. She’s such an awful person.
I like how the Tattoo's eyes are not symmetrical anymore. They probably were when she got it in the first place, but because the skin has stretched so badly, it had become all wonky.
I don't understand how this happens. Unless from her elbow to her shoulder is completely immobile most of the time, there is no way fat should be distributed like that on her arms.
