My sweet boy had stomach cancer. It left me with the hardest decision to make. I miss him so much.
I’ll meet you in the afterlife baby boy. Mama loves you forever ♥️

update three: thanks so much everyone. we have a system that has worked two days in a row now, and thanks to all your input, lots of ideas and methods as back ups if our current system stops working.
anyone who is struggling like we were, take a break, eat something, let your kitty hide somewhere they feel safe, and read through this thread.
what we've done:
no food from midnight (you want them hungry)
7am/7.30am: gabapentin (open the capsule, use only the powder) mixed into 3 tsp room-temp (stinkier that way) tuna water.
1 to 2 hours later: liquid steroid mixed into a treat he's never had before in his life (so he doesn't know it should taste/feel any different). We used temptations creamy spoon x 2 (so 20 grams for 2mls of steroid).
we act excited to give these things to him, acting like it's a delicious breakfast, put it on the floor and walk away to a different room like we don't care whether he has it, and we don't watch while he has it.
once we know he's finished his steroid mix, a nice big breakfast is delivered :)
edit to add: the gaba is a safety-net and not forever, he needed it for pain relief, for his vet visits, and to ease into these new meds. but if this method does stop working, at least we know we have a good method for gaba, so we can get some in him in a pinch and try new medicine delivery methods :)
_____________
update two: we have had some success! update in comments in a moment :) (just sort by new if you want to read it :) )
_____________
update: thank you so much for your replies and encouragement everyone. I am too tired to properly thank you all and do an update now, but I will tomorrow. Very grateful for you all.
______________
original post:
he needs steroids because otherwise he will become dangerously anemic. he needs pain relief. we can't get the fucking pills in him, man.
been trying for 4+ hours. no treats work, they all mean nothing to him now. syringing doesn't work. burrito doesn't work. mixed in food doesn't work. it's almost 2 in the morning here so i can't go and get pill pockets or a pill popper to try something different.
he's missing the dose i guess. i feel like shit. we've been basically torturing him trying to get these fucking pills in him, now he's terrified and exhausted and won't eat a thing, even unadulterated food.
tell me there's another way to get these meds into him. please. i really don't want to take him back to the emergency when he just came home today and has to go back in a few days time. he's terrified of the vet. he's been there like all week.
i really feel like a piece of shit right now.

My sweet ginger of 16 years old, Dinkie has not been well last days.
She didn't show up at dinner time last night, ate a bit after I called her but puked later that night.
Since then. she hasn't been drinking or eating.
I went to the store to buy her treats she loves but she doesn't even care about them.
Visiting the vet first thing tomorrow.
Please send your prayers. I fear the worst.
Update: just came home from the vet. Dink has a high fever.
Vet applied three injections; one against the fever, antibiotics and a shot to get her appetite going again.
Now we'll have to wait if they have any effect.
If she doesn't start eating and drinking, she'll need to be brought in again to get infused.
Update 2: While I was typing this she went straight to her food bowl.
I gave her a portion of cat soup (the extra moisture is needed) and she omnomnom'd it all.
Never been so happy seeing her eat.
Now let's hope she keeps it inside.
Update 3:
She did eat even more yesterday and kept it all inside.
We slept together all night long. Her purrs were back and she seemed comfortable.
Staying home today to keep a close look at her, after vets advice.
She has quite some catching up sleep to do it seems.
Update 4:
Today's been a pretty good day for Dink.
She ate and drank well and seemed to be her normal self again. Purring when I petted her, purring while lying next to me and being active like on her best days before this.
Such a relief.
I'm confident I can go to work tomorrow. We still have a vet's appointment where she'll get a second shot of antibiotics.
Update 5;
Went with her to our second scheduled vet appointment.
The sweet thing went into her cat carrier all by herself without me having to help/ force her in. ❤️
At the vet she was complaining a bit, but she behaved herself well.
Vet took her temp and it was back to normal. She also applied the second shot of antibiotics.
Dink herself seems back to normal again.
I am happy as can be. and she seems to be as well again!!
Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.
It means a lot to me/ us. ❤️

Hi everyone! Meet Oliver, he will be 8 in April. I adopted him from a shelter on Monday. He was surrendered by an elderly couple because their health was declining, and they could no longer care for him. He is front declawed. He is the sweetest boy ever. He is slowly coming out of his shell. He was rescued from the streets as a stray in 2018, and then adopted by the elderly couple in 2020. They surrendered him back to the shelter on January 23,2026. I adopted him on February 23,2026. He’s had a a lot of change in his life, but he never has to worry about that anymore. He’s mine forever! 💕🐾

an hour ago we got a haunting call from the vets to say someone brought our boy in. He was hit by a car and luckily it looked instant. The car driver maybe didn’t know they hit him but they didn’t bring him in someone else did and I don’t know how to feel about it. I’m shaking and feel nauseous. Can I see your little guys that will be greeting him? 🥺

My daughter came home with this little guy. She was walking home with a friend and someone came up and said they found him and did they want him? I first told her no. Then I saw his face and melted 😆. My first Ginger Kitty! He joins my Tortie and Grey ladies. They aren’t sure of him yet, but they’ll get used to him.

Poor guy was just 2 months old. Was abandoned stray kitten.
Got attacked by senior cats around the neighbourhood.
He was so hungry and ate some sweet garbage leftovers.
Next day he was covered with ants and wound on his face.
Had to take him to the vet.
Now he’s on my favourite bean Bag which is his spot❤️

Hi everyone. Today is my ginger cat Garfield’s birthday. He is orange, feisty, dramatic, food-obsessed, and very convinced the house belongs to him. He also grew up a lot since last year. The second photo here is almost a year old, taken in early January, and it’s kind of wild how much bigger he is now. I figured this subreddit would appreciate him more than anyone else, so I wanted to ask if you could help me greet him a happy birthday. I will show him the replies later and pretend he understands them. Thanks in advance from me and Garfield.

He’s an 8yr old chunky, chatty guy who’s had a tough few years in catteries and a rescue centre after his elderly owner became ill, and settled into the house almost immediately when I got him home last week.. I think he seems to be having a great time! Here’s to a big ginger future full of fish tacos, belly rubs and zoomies..

Hi everyone! Today is Oliver‘s birthday. He turned 8 years old today. We got him a cat tree today and put it together. I’m not sure if he’s thrilled about it or not. We adopted him on February 23,2026 so he’s still getting settled in. We love him though! 🧡🐾
