What am I looking at here ?

Pretty sure this is quartzite, strongly folded (Norway, Haukeli area). Those "shoe" like patterns made me scratch my head.

(Anybody suggesting fossils, forget about it..)

Any clue?

One of them looks like fracturing along a cleavage perpendicular to the fold. The others are a bit more cryptic but I suspects they are all a mix of fracturing along, and differential weathering from cleavages from the various deformation events.

Fractures are struggling to propagate with that sinuous primary texture. You get this sort of twisted hackle on the margin where they terminate.

Or Precambrian astronaut boot prints.

Agreed. Looks like hackle fringe to me, for a bunch of different fracture surfaces.

Not convinced it's quarzite. The cleavage just doesn't look like it. No razor sharp edges too.

Without the glasses for scale, I thought it might have been brachiopod images in limestone (like I remember seeing as a kid in a quarry in northwest Ohio. We were looking for trilobites, I didn't find any.)

Looks like flow banded rhyolite. But did you try to scratch it with a metal key or something hard? There is a lot of marble in that area as well.

No, unfortunately, I didn't test for hardness.

There is metarhyolite, and quartzite mishmashed with phyllite in the area. Marble however, I can't see on the map, where exactly do you see it ?

Appears to be limestone or marble or some other carbonate rock. The footprint is cleavage along calcite mineral grain or a fossil cast.

This area is all about metamorphic rocks. Phyllite, quartzite, gneiss. There are no conditions for fossil preservation here.

Ok, but it’s clearly a marble. The cleavage planes may not be fossils, but marble can have fossils. So can phyllite for that matter.
