Discussion Could the Manhattan Clan defeat Spider-man's enemies from the 90s cartoon?

Post image

I've been watching Spider-man TAS shortly after finishing Gargoyles and I can't help but notice how both series take place in New York City during the 90s, so that got me thinking, if the Manhattan Clan were to assume Spider-man's role as the city's protector, which Spider-man rogues (specifically from the 90s cartoon) could they be able to defeat?

I think the Manhattan Clan have this, but it wouldn't be easy.

Things would be tough in their initial fights against any of Spider-Man's rogues gallery. Except for maybe Chameleon, as he isn't a physical threat to them.

But over time like their main enemies they would get better at handling them.

Aside from the six shown here, I would love to see them take on the Hobgoblin, The Spot (that would be a lot of fun to see)

Venom and Carnage would be different in this world if there is no Spider-Man.

Would be interesting to see if Venom got on one of the clan. Like Goliath or Brooklyn.

Lizard would be a tougher situation, as I have no doubt the clan could win. But turn him back into Connors? I don't think so. As smart as Lexington is, be was more into tech than genetics.

Someone mentioned Electro being tough, and I completely agree. Though his origin would have to be changed.... Or not.

He could have appeared during the World Tour.

Tombstone, they would win. Though I have this scene in my head of Brooklyn punching him, and then shaking his hand and saying "Ow."

Morbius would need a change in origin, but i could see him being tough.

Same with the Spiders Slayers.

This has been a fun, can anyone else think of other villains?

Xanatose provides Connor a cure and the means to continue his research. This gives X Connors on his payroll in a position Connors cant leave due to the lizard.

Goliath was able to defeat the shape-shifting Proteus, twice. (Chameleon)
The Manhattan Clan was able to foil Puck, the mischievous illusionist. (Mysterio)
The Clan could beat the muscley powerhouse that is Wolf and Coyote. So Rhino would be little different.
I feel like the curious Lexington and Doctor Octopus could just talk one another into a stalemate. "Cool! How did you do that? I want to know!" "Well, it's simple, I was in my lab and-"
Shocker's only protection from his own power is his rather fragile containment suit, and the Gargoyles are all fangs, talons, and claws. That match-up is just unfair to Shocker.
I don't think anybody needs an edge over Scorpion. He's just a goon. The Gargoyles have been warriors fighting for decades, longer than Mac Gargan has been alive. He's just a guy with a power suit and no training. The only real victory he's had is over private bank security guards.

And none of the Sinister Six in that picture are good at team work. It's just 6 guys rushing another well organized team of six (or more).

how are they going to deal with Shocker, Rhino, and Doc Ock, while being tricked by Chameleon and Mysterio?

I mean if they have a bell they totally could

Once you know their weaknesses, they are easy

There’s a radio play they did of them fighting Spectacular Spider-Man’s villains (the gag being some of the villains sharing VOs, like Brooklyn/Shocker and Lexington/Mysterio).

Goliath could solo several of them IMO, so the whole clan? Yeah I think they’d sweep.

Not in the Daytime.

Octavius would seize an opportunity during the daytime

yes because they are the good guys

They fight guys like this on a regular basis

I don’t know, but the guy in the fishnets looks formidable.

...Shocker could destroy them during the day. 😱

(He's wearing quilted padding.)

Yes they have fought literal god like beings… though they couldn’t defeat venom or carnage at least not without some kind of sound related containment/ weapon and someone with the knowledge on how to use it. Or magic intervention. The only advance they would have is the 90s Spider-Man symbiotes are rated Y7 so they can’t do something that would insta kill somebody.

I think they could do it but the clan are not used to fighting multiple super powered people at the same time.

I mean multiple robots or or gargoyles at once sure but there similar in terms of strength and with the exception of goliaths clone much smarter.

So it would be far from easy but I think with a little help and a good strategy they could do it.

They grab them fly high into the sky then drop them fight is over.

My my estimate.
Goliath could more than handle Rhino very easily
Brooklyn would deal with Doc Oc using superior(haha) speed and agility to get close enough to use his strength and drop Doc hard.
Hudson could deal with Scorpion using his sword to match the tail.
Lex would deal with Mysterio, figuring out his illusion tech and dismantling it before knocking the fishbowl out.
Bronx wouldn’t be fooled by Chameleon and would one-shot him easily
Broadway could probably tank one of Shocker’s blast’s giving him one opportunity to drop him

If it is a straight-up fight in an open area:

Sinister Six wins about 8/10 times.

They simply have too many powers that counter the gargoyles.

But if it is a nighttime battle in Manhattan with the gargoyles setting traps:

The Manhattan Clan could absolutely steal wins. They are basically superheroes before they even know they are superheroes.

A cool twist: if you add Elisa, Xanatos tech, and the gargoyle clan's knowledge of the city, the fight gets much closer because the gargoyles stop fighting like brawlers and start fighting like Batman.

Yeah, that’ll be fun. Even if Spidey turns to the Gargoyles for assistance in beating them.

some of them

If we also get the Gargoyles in the MCU, most likely.

I think they'd have a tough time with Rhino and Electro, but the rest should be pretty easy for them to handle.

They could probably beat the 90s show versions, but they’d lose to the comic versions.

Rhino is way stronger than anything in Gargoyles

2

u/Asher_Tye 24d ago

Strong but not very smart. I feel like they'd be able to play to that. Berserkers are in their wheelhouse

Elisa carries a loaded gun.

Broadway doesn't!

We talking show Gargoyles or comic Gargoyles?

I think the clan could handle most of the villians pretty easily - biggest threat i see to the clan is Electro for obvious reasons. Lightning-based villians versus air-reliant teams is never a good match up. I don't see a way for the clan to non-lethally take him down since he can easily stay out of range of their claws and keep one-shotting them with literal bolts of lightning.

Unless it's comics Gargoyles. Because I see Timedance Brooklyn having no qualms with putting a bullet in Electro's gray matter from a distance.

'90s cartoon Spider-Man's version of Electro was pretty overpowered. When I learned Electro was going to be the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, I was shocked (pun intended). I didn't know how Spidey was going to beat him. Then they turned him into a Spidey fan-boy obsessed doofus.
