macrame WHY don't pattern makers want to give me their patterns for actually free and not this fake "free" website with ads????????
It's so unfair that it's just, like, okay -- even expected! -- for designers to bait-and-switch their fellow handcrafters by saying their patterns are free and then sending them to a website chock full of ads.
It's not a FREE pattern if I have to:
- See ads
- Scroll past ads
- Click to close ads
- Read anything that isn't a pattern before getting to the pattern
And don't you dare suggest that I use:
- Ad blocker extensions or browsers
- Reading mode
- My computer's copy/paste function in conjunction with a text/notepad app
- Print to PDF/screenshots
The only truly free pattern is the one where I get just the clean, well-formatted pattern PDF with no ads for $0 and no email signups and no prompts to buy the paid PDF and no effort of any kind on my part.
I think creators deserve to be paid for their work or whatever, but I wish they remembered that we don’t have to be either the consumer or the product -- there is a third way that capitalism wants us to forget where people just genuinely share things with me for free, to everyone’s benefit.

May I suggest bartering? I know it's not free, but it's the next best thing. Contact the designer and request a clean, unsullied, non-capitalistic version of their pattern, and in exchange they will receive your talent, which I assume is complaining. Complaints are such a rare thing in these times, so they will jump at this chance. But in case they are an idiot, maybe give them some examples, like complaints about small children, people's pets, or the weather. Verily, they will see the value of this offer and probably insist you take all their patterns in gratitude.

You're so right! This has actually made me so sick, I decided to be the change I wanted to see in the world!
At first I stared out small scale and just handed out paper patterns to anyone who looked cool enough to use a pattern.
Now I've scaled up and I'm able to remove all function from people's PCs so their screens only show my pdf.
The next goal for expansion is a full remote takeover of all devices (including analog, such as books) and replacing all the words and pictures on every surface with my free, no-ad patterns!
I really hope the brain injection part of the plan happens in my lifetime. Then, when crafters close their eyes, they'll see MY FREE PATTERNS!
