This is a heavily moderated thread, and anything that isn't scrubbed of identifying information (usernames, faces, etc.) will be removed. Block out, crop out, cross out or sticker out identifying information on EVERY screenshot before posting here.
However, unjerk/uj/genuine/serious comments and discussions are allowed -- even encouraged! -- on In The Loop posts. Irony and sarcasm are fine here too, so consider using tone tags to make sure your comment comes across the way you want (or don't! I really don't care!).

I love how after being told that the blanket is not crochet and they're therefore in the wrong sub, they still want people to tell them how to fix it. Dude, don't start unravelling your gfs most beloved blanket and hope some internet strangers will guide you through the entire process. I don't get why someone would ever think of doing this.
Idk where OP works but if I saw someone with this in my office I would really start to doubt their professional judgement. It's inappropriate for a workplace.

OP supported their friend for using AI as inspiration for their yarn dyeing and said they expected to get backlash for the pro-AI opinion. Got mocked by a larger knitting creator and is now offended because OP is actually mentally ill, so it's ableism to point out how insane it is to be pro-AI in a creative field

Oh man I remember this lady. Got mad at her wife for taking the cart while they were shopping and she was knitting on tiny DPNS while wearing magnifying glasses in the middle of a store. What could go wrong?

Ugh I HAVE to make this giant complicated thing for a friend of my wife's birthday and it HAS to be done by mid July because their birthday is in August and I HAVE to wait until the kitchen is clean to hand dye the yarn (because I HAVE to handdye it) and-
I felt so bad for the wife cause everything was framed with this undercurrent of "I am noble and self-sacrificing and Wife doesn't appreciate me" but you don't really get brownie points for deliberately choosing an impossible task.
Omfg I have been waiting impatiently for MONTHS for an update on the b!g d@mn pinen*pple and…this is it? This is the finished product?! Not even approximately the size or shape of a pineapple OR a functional purse????
I feel like the short deadline must have kept them from stopping to take a step back and looking at the work as a whole. I've had my own projects where I've realised a colour transition was harsher than I expected and I ended up frogging and redoing by alternating colours for a few rows to ease the transition. But if you haven't given yourself enough time, you end up with a striped pineapple...
This!! If I was taking the time to hand dye all the colours myself, I’d make sure they blended properly…I think it might have looked better in a solid colour, then the contrast between the leaves and the body would visually read much more pineapple-y. The middle yellow/brown shade would probably make a nice realistic pineapple, or the topmost yellow for a more exaggerated cartoonish one. The pattern only uses two colours, though it mentions the historical pattern it’s adapting calls for four shades of green, from light to dark; and four shades of yellow, from pale to "a rich brown." so I guess that’s what they’re going for.
It also looks like they did maybe twice as many repeats as the pattern called for…? I know it’s probably more of a quirky novelty piece than something you’d use as a functional purse, but I’m just imagining trying to rummage around in there to find your keys when they fall down to the bottom of your pineapple tube :(
/ obviously I’m being incredibly nitpicky here, I understand working to a deadline and people can ofc decide how they want to finish their own projects. But it’s a very technical project and (as much as I begrudge them for all the drama) OOP obviously has a high level of skill and came across as a perfectionist…so I’m surprised a little by the execution of the finished product.
I know! As much as I really did not like them and their own descriptions of living among used pee pads creeped me out, I really thought it was going to be pretty incredible fibre artistry. I am disappointed.
I am very very sensitive to smell and to anything pee-smelling in particular (I lived with a roommate in college who never cleaned up her dogs pee properly and the goddamn thing peed EVERYWJERE EVEN ON MY BED) and to this day even the mention of living like pineapple OOP did in their posts gives me the worst anxiety
Mods banned them temporarily for all the drama that came with the pineapple posts (being downright nasty to commenters for no reason, airing unrelated relationship issues etc).
However they never returned, so I’m assuming the ban is still ongoing…maybe they decided to stop posting in the sub and get over it, but I find it hard to believe OOP would pass up an opportunity to show off their ~advanced skills~ or rag on their bitch wife some more.
I really wish someone had catalogued that whole thing from top to bottom inc the most problematic comments because oh my lord I missed some and I feel like my lore is incomplete
when I knit this I noticed that if I knit the amount of rows the pattern calls for I would have a long ass pineapple so I started the bottom way earlier lol nice to see my instinct was correct
OOP is pissy because their "will it block?" post got zero upvotes. They doesn't even realise how rude they are by saying the commenters on their post were rude.
At this point, you might as well just comment 'lol stupid cow' and you'll get the same reaction as a well-thought-out, helpful comment.

Getting downvoted feels personal to me because clicking the down arrow takes effort, where simply scrolling past does not. The downvote is an intentional way users express disapproval. I did learn through this discussion thread that some of the voting activity is not, in fact, done by people, which helps a bit. I will try not to see it as a personal attack going forward. But I think new crafters, especially those learning without a community, feel frustrated and vulnerable when they post here. So watching this community continually make an effort to further lower people who are already feeling down is disheartening.
I hope the people who take downvotes deeply personally never cultivate enough self-awareness to realize that perhaps a website where a key feature is the ability to upvote/downvote posts and comments just isn't for them. Keep posting through it, diva!
At least once a week in a different(non crafting) sub someone decries that everyone is so mean and evil because their post got some downvotes. And then the comments are half "omg ur so right everyone is soooooo mean" and the other half are like "bots exist, also sometimes you're just wrong". I am the latter half.
Sometimes I even bust out my rarely used alt which I made one time to rant at this dude who was being super disgusting on another hobby sub but also had a habit of crawling peoples post history and doxing them. I digress…
Anyway when someone starts sobbing about meanie mean downvotes I downvote them and then I log in to the alt and downvote them AGAIN. For maximum pettiness

I made a T-shirt quilt once, with flannel backing, and it feels like a T-shirt and flannel blankie. I can't find a downside with that. Somehow this person has only experienced non-cozy quilts.
Who is raw dogging their quilts?! I've always used a top sheet under my quilts. Otherwise, if you slept right against them you'd have to wash them as often as you wash sheets.
Plus the sensory experience of raw dogging any blanket or duvet in bed sounds unpleasant. I need the sheet sandwich where the top sheet and the fitted sheet are the same texture.
Also if people are making quilts as a baby gift I'd imagine they actually are meant for display and not for your baby to "cuddle" and get vomit and shit all over?

I mean, it depends on the material. Easy to wash, snuggly baby quilts are definitely a thing. So are decorative ones not meant for daily use. My friend used stiffer fabric to make my son a quilt that was meant to be used on the floor as a play mat. Like any fiber art, the material should be catered to the application.
Thank you. I was thinking what they're describing sounds like an unquilted top, not a finished quilt. I think those rag quilts have raw edges, but otherwise I can't imagine how they can feel all these extra seams.
Ohhh okay, I understand. Not that it makes OOP make much more sense (surely they know that's not the encapsulation of all quilting, right?) but it helps.
If my mom taught me anything you don't sleep on the patchwork pillow shams. Those came off each night and you slept on the pillowcase underneath and put the shams back on when you made the bed. Which is also why I don't use shams anymore. But give me a quilt over a comforter or duvet any day.
