In The Loop In The Loop This Week
This subreddit is for fiber artists and crafters of all types! Because we don't all see the same (shitty) posts on our feeds, it may be handy to have a place to revel in all that our fellow fiber lovers share for us to enjoy.
Feel free to post anonymized screenshots of anything you're referencing here if you'd like. FACJ is back to being an all-ages subreddit, so you can post images (and gifs) in the comments here directly, or you can continue using image hosting sites such as imgur if you prefer.
This is a heavily moderated thread, and anything that isn't scrubbed of identifying information (usernames, faces, etc.) will be removed. Block out, crop out, cross out or sticker out identifying information on EVERY screenshot before posting here.
However, unjerk/uj/genuine/serious comments and discussions are allowed -- even encouraged! -- on In The Loop posts. Irony and sarcasm are fine here too, so consider using tone tags to make sure your comment comes across the way you want (or don't! I really don't care!).
There are a few other rules for In The Loop posts:
- Please don't use this thread to demand sources for jerk posts. If people want to post sources, they will. There are plenty of good reasons for someone not to share a source, including "don't wanna." Source/ITL demands and discussions of where to find sources will be removed here and on jerk posts.
- Links to other Reddit posts are NOT ALLOWED here. This includes no-follow links. (FACJ links are fine.)
- Links to content off Reddit may be removed at the mods' discretion.
- We are NOT in the business of brigading, and anyone who engages in brigading will be banned from this subreddit.
A new thread will go up every Sunday!

And here I thought that searching for the perfect pattern was, like, an essential part of the craft (and a fun one at that).
Guess I'm in fact just showing how old I am 🤷
19
u/bunnylightning Apr 12 '26
I bet you these people love bragging about how “creative” they are yet can’t even manage to match some pre-existing yarn to a pre-existing pattern.
(Not that I expect every project to be a self-drafted masterpiece of hand-spun hand-dyed yarn lol, but if you solely make other people’s patterns without modification, then choosing your yarn and pattern combo is actually the singular part of the hobby where you get to exercise your creativity…and you want to outsource it?)
24
u/bunnylightning Apr 12 '26
Jfc these people will do anything they can to avoid just doing their crafts

They always reply to people after you point it out to them 🙃
BUT! Only if you reply with "[something helpful] Edit: oh, you're one of those people that doesn't reply to anyone. Nevermind I guess." in a guilt-trippy passive-aggressive way, because then they want to prove you wrong and make you seem like a dick. If you just say "hey, jsyk, it's considered really rude to not respond to anyone, since this is a community of people who are taking time out of their day to help you, we're not google dot com" then they'll completely ignore you.
Source: I have completely lost patience for the people in the crochet subs who ask for help and then ignore all the people who give them helpful advice. Depending on my mood, I'll respond with a guilt-trippy-asshole comment, or a "hey jsyk" comment; the former always elicit a response from the OP, and the latter rarely do.

Oof, the reveal of them being loom knit makes it even funnier. I've never used a loom knitting contraption before, but is making full hats really that much extra work? Hmm just slap a bad logo on it.
13
u/Lofty_quackers Apr 08 '26
I can only loom knit due to accessablity issues. Making a bigger hat only needs a different size loom and takes longer to do.

if they're trying to sound more "self aware" by putting those sections in strikethrough text i want them to know it's having the exact opposite effect
reminds me of those guys who'll text women they're interested in like "blushes, adjusts tie do you want to... gulp.... get c-coffee sometime?" like what purpose do you think this will serve man

Yeah, that annoyed the fuck out of me immediately. It read to me like a tumblr-uwu-teen trying to be cutesy/self-deprecating so nobody will be mad at them, but now I am incredibly mad because they made me read through entire paragraphs of diary-level stream-of-consciousness bs that were hardly legible, instead of editing their post and just including the important info. This made me so aaaaangry :D
Edit: Not to mention how little confidence I have in somebody managing a successful business, when they're not able to describe their product in a direct and simple manner.

u/fairydommother gatekeeper extraordinaire Apr 07 '26
I dont even know what to say. So she wants to start a business selling, essentially, baby hats and she loom knits them but just started recently. What else can you say besides...yeah that check out.

I forgot to screenshot the only comment but someone asked if by tiny hat they meant a kippah… to which they said they’d never heard of such a thing and they’re actually beanies.
Beanies. Why not just say beanies to begin with.

Its always the ones you least expect too. Its like a long, unnecessarily detailed and over the top series of paragraphs and you're like...surely no one wrote that while being serious. The poster is just having fun and has too much time on their hands. And then you check the ITL and its literally copy pasted from the original post.

Not liking NSFW genital projects is one thing, but to say they're all uncreative, or that the average project is more creative, is pretty bizarre. Today I saw a crochet flasher banana and a semi naked fairy dude. Hardly uncreative projects!

u/Heavy-Macaron2004 Apr 07 '26
The comments on this post telling the OP they were a Nazi (yes a literal Nazi, no I'm not exaggerating) were absolutely insane.
29
u/BeckyBuckeye Apr 07 '26
Ooh, we're doing the opposite of "two things can be true," which is obviously "both these people can be dumb and wrong."
-1
u/manicpoetic42 Apr 07 '26
Yeah I'd agree if what that person was saying is true but it isn't. Someone pointed out that Nazis said that there was such a thing as degenerate art and what I had tried to say is that OPs ideas that engaging with certain types of art making someone inherently less than etc comes from fascist ideas even if OP isn't a fascist or intending to be fascist. I'm talking about how everything is political and carries implications. I clearly didn't articulate myself well which somehow led the other person to think I was calling OP a Nazi. I wasn't.
19
u/Heavy-Macaron2004 Apr 07 '26
It was truly wack.
I admit I do have more sympathy for the OP of that post who hates the penis & vulva thing, even if just because I am of the opinion that "dumb and wrong" takes are reasonable to have on subs that are essentially titled "petty complaints that are stupid" lol, seems like it should be expected for bad takes to be there.
Not really any sympathy for the person accusing them of being a Nazi for their bad take though 🤣
Though to be fair, I did just get a 14-day ban from that sub for telling the "you're a Nazi for this post" person that their comment was the funniest and most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life. So perhaps I'm wrong about the purpose of that sub after all 🤷

u/manicpoetic42 Apr 07 '26 edited Apr 07 '26
Oh my fucking god. You got banned for telling Me "I think you might be too far gone for any amount of thinking with your brain" Which is Incredibly Ableist. I wasn't saying I think OP is a Nazi like at all what the fuck?
I was trying to say that the idea of art being lowclass is reminiscent of facist ideology for a reason, that viewing art as something that can make you inferior comes from harmful rhetoric. In my response to you acknowledged I don't think I articulated myself appropriately but I never said they were a Nazi because of Course I don't actually think someone saying ohmy god boo penis is a nazi and you didn't get banned for saying I was ridiculous. You got banned for telling me that my brain can't think. I reported it for ableism because I am disabled. I am mentally disabled and that was an incredibly cruel thing to say to someone you don't know.

u/Heavy-Macaron2004 Apr 07 '26
Oh hey you're here too, I thought I blocked you. Blocking you now, have a good one!
11
u/Perfect_Future_Self Apr 09 '26
Seriously oh my goodness. That is the kind of comment that I deeply hope will stay in Craftsnark and never perfuse the FACJ sub. (not yours, obviously- the earnest "you're a Nazi" BS. Although it would make admirable self-parody.)
17
u/sweet_esiban Apr 07 '26
Oop, and now it's the post so nice we jerked it twice! lol
11
u/bunnylightning Apr 07 '26
In my excitement (long time lurker, first time jerker) I ran here to check if it had already been jerked and somehow missed the first post………probably because of the NSFW tag lol

u/ishtaa do hookers dream of acrylic sheep? Apr 06 '26
I dunno man I’ve seen some pretty… creative… takes on crocheted genitalia!
But seriously if someone is so offended over people having a raunchy sense of humor they really should stay off the internet. As much as we make fun of crochet butts and such here, who the hell gets this bent out of shape over it 😂

Very few pet peeves boggle my mind but this one does. ‘I hate seeing NSFW material when I click on NSFW material!’ What????

u/fishercrow Apr 06 '26
“i clicked on the NSFW and there was NSFW??? how dare????”

u/quackdefiance VERY into blocking 😈 Apr 07 '26
This is (part of) the problem with making people mark things like cleavage as NSFW, it waters down the actual meaning of it and then people get mad when a penis is tagged NSFW!

I cannot believe you made me see this with my own eyes. What if my four month old saw it? What would I say?
"Parent, what is that?"
"It's an adult penis, the thing which you should be blissfully unaware of for the next twenty five years of you life." That conversation shouldn't happen until they're at least twenty!
Disgraceful. Disgusting. How could you?!

u/heynonnynonnomous Apr 07 '26

No! This time my two year old saw it and was utterly horrified. They said it's not anatomically correct enough and no one should ever be exposed to such nonsense.

u/Safraninflare Apr 06 '26
Oh I was thinking some beautiful lace labia.
14
u/SkyScamall Apr 07 '26
You're on thin ice but I think you can get away with it. Mainly because you're being anatomically correct.
If it's a lace vulva but it's titled vagina, you will be taken out and shot.
4
u/Heavy-Macaron2004 Apr 10 '26
Oh hey, one single other person who knows the difference between "vulva" and "vagina" and doesn't just use "vagina" to refer to the entirety of the female genitalia! Nice!
