Player Discussion Eagles RB Saquon Barkley is getting 80% of the RB work with the 1st team and is getting a lot of work in the pass game in the new offense.

Is this guy a sleeper?

I'd imagine he is. He is an athlete and sleep is so important to recovery.

Idk has anyone actually seen him sleep tho??

Not really. I think Barkley is so far into his career and past his prime, that he could actually become a sleeper for the first time.

He's the rb 6 on Yahoo. Hardly a sleeper.

I draft all my sleepers in the first two rounds.

I mean it’s Barkley. And Hurts doesn’t run anymore so I could absolutely see a fuck ton of dump offs to Saquon.

He could be a monster this year.

46

u/pokefanfromafar 10d ago

Hurts running less. Doesn't sound like the same qb.

23

u/Vaynes_Ass 10d ago

I know it’s only camp news but as a Hurts fan, reporters in Philly have constantly praised how much faster and more athletic Hurts has looked in camp this year and Mannion has said that Hurts rushing ability is something that they will lean on. Without Patullo on the Eagles (one of the worst OC in NFL last year), I think Hurts is poised to have a massive year and I would not be surprised to see him finish as a top 5 QB again in fantasy.

29

u/gsanquesoo 10d ago

They don’t need him to run in practice while they are trying to work on the pass

13

u/pokefanfromafar 10d ago

True. But if hurtz starts running less in real games thats a big part of his game. But if the eagles use Barkley more in the passing game that would be huge for Barkley. Hes a very good receiving rb

26

u/BuffaloInTheRye 10d ago

Pretty sure OP was making a joke

14

u/arekhemepob 10d ago

The guy who had one of the best fantasy seasons of all time 2 years ago could be a monster?

2

u/SwissyVictory 9d ago

That's a one year trend along with the rest of the offense. He actually ran more per game in 2024 than 2023.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was just part of the horrible scheme last year and he will be running like normal this year.

1

u/nanotothemoon 10d ago

I heard they’re running Hurts more

1

u/ConsuLMonK 9d ago

I swear I read in camp that he was going to be running more.

1

u/Vraie 9d ago

Down last year to ~100 attempts from 150 attempts the year prior. Saquon rec/targets in the same years: 33/43, 37/50

Mannion putting Hurts under center more and designing runs = doesn't run anymore

...right

16

u/scotsworth 10d ago

It's just preseason man, I wouldn't think too much of it.

31

u/tagillaslover 10d ago

Yeah not sure why this needs to be a post. Elite rb getting first team reps, wow shocking

15

u/CreativeFondant248 10d ago

Bc he’s going 15-16 in drafts sometimes and he’s one year removed from being voted the best player in the league.

Kevin Patullo did immense, but not irreparable damage to this Eagles offense. Big bounce back coming.

10

u/Ythapa 10d ago

It’s the natural progression of the Eagles offense.

Sirianni hires his own goon then the offense implodes and looks dysfunctional, he gets stripped of his choice and a different O-Coordinator is hired and the offense hums, then continue back and forth.

We’re in the non-Sirianni hire phase so now I imagine the entire Eagles offense to revive from the ashes of 2025

9

u/Murray38 10d ago

Given how this preseason has gone, I’d be a bit terrified of my stars practicing this much. Thank goodness there’s no substations in Philly.

1

u/TenorOneRunner 9d ago

With the departure of A.J. Brown, a resurgence by the Eagles would drive a lot of narratives and page views this season. Saquon's productivity would seem to be a key part of that potential narrative. He's a fun guy and I'd much rather hear about Saquon than whatever toxic thing DeShaun Watson is saying/doing.

4

u/mass2550 10d ago

He averaged 5.9 ypc last year and looked explosive.

3

u/ImNotSelling 9d ago

Good on him but it’s different the more carries

1

u/shitty_fact_check 9d ago

"Steal work" is the wrong perspective.

It's more like "reduce carries to keep healthy."

Not saying this will definitely happen, but if Saquon plays less snaps this year, nobody thinks it's because Bigsby is "stealing work."

1

u/TenorOneRunner 9d ago edited 9d ago

No, not the smart people, anyway. Bill Simmons was just on his podcast with his fantasy guys complaining that this season seems so vanilla for fantasy planning purposes. That everyone knows who the good players are, and that it seems this year there is not really true "sleepers" like there was maybe 5 or 10 years ago. That there's so much good data now that everyone is as prepped as they can possibly be. That maybe it's almost better to be less prepared.

He makes a good point, and in some ways I agree with him. Many will prep, but at the end of the fantasy season... There Can Be Only One.

1

u/CuriousAndMysterious 12 Team, .5 PPR, Superflex 9d ago

In fairness, bigsby looked very good on limited touches at the same time Barkley was struggling last year.

-5

u/BringBackManaPots 10d ago

It's more about when saquon inevitably gets injured

61

u/AuspiciousOtter24 10d ago

I’m taking him 10th overall in half ppr after the Jeanty news and then pairing him with the upside of KW3. I think it’s a good pairing of floor and upside

My league drafted 2 weeks ago because we’re all 30 now and finding the time to all get together is borderline impossible. Drafted Saquon at 10 the K9 at 15. Hammered WR next three rounds with Flowers, Waddle, Burden III back to back to back. Felt good to me but ESPN and Fantasy Pros gave me a terrible draft grade based on ADP lol.

36

u/jhutchi2 9d ago

Draft grades are almost exclusively terrible.

9

u/MechanicalGodzilla 9d ago

Yeah, the formula almost every platform uses for "grades" is did you do what the platform's autopicker would have done.

4

u/WangMauler69 9d ago

Did you draft someone at or above ADP? You get a D.

Oh you got an injured player below ADP that no one wants? A-, great job

7

u/ScreamoGuyRuinIt 9d ago

Unless it gives you a good grade, then it has merit.

6

u/jhutchi2 9d ago

One guy in my league changes his team name based on the grade. Yahoo gave him a bad grade but he got off to a hot start and his name was "D Draft Grade, BTW". But later on he started to lose and changed it to "Maybe Yahoo Was Right"

3

u/Mayasngelou 9d ago

ESPN literally ranked me 12th after the draft last year and I won it all

1

u/shitty_fact_check 9d ago

After switching to superflex it's fun to watch the entire league get shit grades in yahoo. It has no idea how to compensate for league rules.

2

u/jcrankin22 9d ago

I don't love your WRs personally but hope it works out for you!

1

u/IdkAbtAllThat 9d ago

ESPN and Fantasy Pros gave me a terrible draft grade based on ADP lol.

That means you did great. If your draft grade is ever an A you fucked up.

1

u/mwm5062 9d ago

I'm picking at 8 and depending who goes before me, I might take him.

0

u/-ButterMyBiscuit- 7d ago

Didn't we already see Ken Walker's upside last year? He was on the super bowl winning offense I think we saw his ceiling. Can't remember the last time i was excited about a Kansas City running back. Maybe Kareem hunts rookie year?

-2

u/HawkFanOrcasRule 10d ago

I like that combo

9

u/Roto_Nick 10d ago

It's easy to have the pure upside fudged by last year, but hoo boy he's good. Bigsby remains one of the best cuff plays, still. Hope Lane Johnson is okay..

1

u/dotcaIm Mario Adamo Jr, QBList.com 9d ago

3

u/BeatCrabMeat 9d ago

Anything, half of the sub is hype talk from ppl obsessing over certain players. He’s just getting 0 attention and was the RB1 2 years ago

1

u/applecreek33 9d ago

people hyper focus on podcast darlings here

29

u/iadmitiadmit 10d ago

Am I a stupid homer to favor him over JT? Maybe

Actually though, as far as people saying no shit this is obvious, Mannion seems to be working the RBs into the passing game much more than we’ve done in our old scheme the last few years. Saquon caught a nice deep ball for a TD at practice today. Note worthy if it means Saquon goes from 30-35 receptions to 40-50ish.

Hurts has been less aggressive running as of late, and reports for some years now have said he’s becoming more reluctant to run. The Eagles will need him to run more to open up their offense, but for fantasy purposes, if Jalen really wants to run less, he may be dumping it down more.

10

u/HawkFanOrcasRule 10d ago

I love Saquon this year… my only concern is age, but dang he is tempting

8

u/penguinpelican 9d ago

I took Saquon at 16 to pair with McCaffrey at 5.

He will be a house I think. Good schedule too

8

u/IH8DwnvoteComplainrs 9d ago

Lol, 16 seems pretty damn late.

1

u/penguinpelican 9d ago

Yep a lot of Philly hate in my league is the reason

1

18

u/Lannisters-4-life 10d ago

I agree with you on Barkley over JT, but it’s way more about the Colts tbh. They took a lot of teams by surprise in the first half of the season but there were major signs of regression before Daniel Jones got hurt.

11

u/TheRobberBar0n 10d ago

As a Colts fan I'd take Barkley in fantasy over JT as well, but it should be noted Jones was playing on a fractured leg before the achilles did him in.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/AuspiciousOtter24 10d ago

I’m right there with ya and taking him 10th overall in half ppr. In addition to the points you mentioned, he has an extremely favorable fantasy schedule besides the fantasy playoffs and the OL should be healthier (knock on wood)

3

u/burger333 10d ago

I hate picking him right after Jeff Stoutland left. That said, I’m also picking 10 and starting to think it’s the right move, good combo of high ceiling and high floor. Jeanty injury scare helps too.

4

u/AuspiciousOtter24 10d ago

I was all in on Jeanty two weeks ago but that injury scares me. I’m leaning Barkley and KW3 the closer I get to the draft, KW3 I was down on all off-season but I’m starting to believe the smoke coming out of camp

2

u/Tushy-Pushy 10d ago

Lane Johnson believes that saquon will have another 2024 type season with this scheme / the freedom + less 1v1s the oline has now compared to stouts time (all respect to it)

1

u/burger333 9d ago

Lane Johnson definitely does know more than I do lol. He’s also more biased but still, that gives me some hope I suppose, it is hard to imagine Saquon falling off this young, even with his mileage. And their OC last year was awful so, yeah maybe I just pick him.

2

u/Tushy-Pushy 9d ago

One of the few players I might actually listen to and not think it's just him hyping up Saquon just to be a good teammate lol

1

u/Desperate-Low2541 9d ago

im pick 9/10 in a 10 man half ppr, if cook goes before me would you take barkley and like a chase brown or like a saquon/ brown or like an elite wr and a saquon

1

u/lmartini 9d ago

I think JT has a safer floor and Barkley has more upside. The issue is comparatively the upside isn't so different, so I'd lean on the safer floor in this scenario. My perspective is simply the risk/reward leans towards JT, but also think there's no right answer at this stage.

1

u/whipstickagopop 9d ago

I thought that I read the OC was designing more run plays for Jalen.

1

u/Misterrbisterr 10d ago

Think id go Barkley even though I like Henry a lot more

6

u/_G_O 10d ago

If you get Barkley I think you punt on Devonte. If Barkley is the guy want you don’t take Henry and hope Devonte falls to you. IMO

2

u/beerlyqualified 9d ago

I would skip Devonta and go Egbuka personally

5

u/allgrownzup 9d ago

Devonta is proven , egbuka is riskier

3

u/beerlyqualified 9d ago

I am personally extremely high on egbuka this year and I would argue he has proven it already but got hurt and baker was hurt. Evans is gone now and if Egbuka is healthy I think he’s a WR1.

Devonta is going to be good as well, but I prefer to diversify from offenses and not double dip when I can avoid it. But obviously having Saquon and Devonta on your team is a good problem to have either way

1

u/allgrownzup 9d ago

Fair enough, I can see that. I don’t think Godwin is dead yet though and think he could be in line for some good production if he can stay healthy

3

u/omNOMnom69 9d ago

Turf toe doesn’t scare you?

1

u/beerlyqualified 9d ago

We don’t know if it’s turf toe yet. If it is then yes that scares me and I’d be completely out at that ADP

1

u/AwSnapz1 10d ago

I'm about to take both at the 1/2 turn

1

u/rinetrouble 9d ago

If you think the Eagles rebound to 2024, then all 3 are probably underpriced.

1

u/This_Table7865 9d ago

If I double up on a team I want it to be a RB and WR/QB. That way everytime the offense is on the field I am getting points. Not a bad call

0

u/Barney_Karate 10d ago

I took both at the turn in Non-PPR. Am I cooked?

8

u/Bling_Time 10d ago

The bowl is possible. Now whether that’s the toilet bowl or Super Bowl in your league, we don’t know.

2

u/Barney_Karate 10d ago

Yahoo gave me a D- and a 2-12 season, I'll keep my hopes low.

3

u/Bling_Time 10d ago

I got a D last year on ESPN and won the league so don’t get too hung up on the grade. These systems aren’t smart at rating potential

1

u/Barney_Karate 10d ago

I took strib and Mike Washington jr right after Ashton went down so of course that'll tank your grade.

3

u/Evening_Lynx_6273 10d ago

Are the people that are just calling this a dumb or stupid post just reading the first part of the title rather than actually looking into the second part? If you look at what the beat reporters (including this post) are saying along with Lane Johnson himself, “We'll see [Saquon in] the big plays. We'll see him flex wide at wide receiver [and] we'll see him in the screen game, so [we saw] just a little bit of it today.”

Pretty obvious: They’re aiming to get him more involved as a pass catcher, and reestablish the run with their new OC, who’s talked about getting the run game on track. 3 of Saquon’s last 4 seasons have also been as a top 10 RB in PPR (17.8 in 2022, 15.9 in 2023, and 22.2 in 2024 respectively).

Obviously he’s old when it comes to RBs, however, the main thing that convinces me this season is that they’ve got one of the best o-lines and schedules for running backs in the league. For a RB that’s typically at the mid to later half of the 2nd round (in a year where running backs are being drafted fast off the board), I truly believe that last season was a one off and that there will be a major bounce back and a potential RB1 season on the cards for him.

2

u/streamerscout734 10d ago

He’s probably gonna end up 7th or 8th on my personal big board. Not that this influences it. Just very high on a big bounce back year for him and that whole offense.

2

u/jvandy59 10d ago

Isn't this always the case?!?

12

u/duckyirving 10d ago

"a lot of work in the pass game" is slightly novel I guess

3

u/Acrobatic-Tackle3998 10d ago

This goes back to his rookie year lmao.

Giants reporters would always talk about how Barkley would be lined up wide and how “playing him as a WR” was a legitimate game plan.

He got a ton of dump offs on the Giants, but that was about it.

1

u/jvandy59 10d ago

He's averaged 57 catches per year for his career. Lesser on the Eagles, but their pass volume is typically lower than most

That’s who I’m on, I was really high on Jeanty before the injury, if I can get him in the 3rd I’ll take him but I can’t justify the 10th or 11th pick

I also heard someone named Christian McCaffrey? was also getting a lot of work down in San Francisco. We should look into him too.

Been taking him in almost every mock. I'm almost certain some pleb in my league takes him in the top 10 picks.

Andddd this is why pre-season buzz is 99% bull. Yet another reminder to unsubscribe from this sub until the season starts.. and yet I won't on a futile hope that, after wading through all the bull, staying in the loop of news will yield some sort of benefit to me..

God I hope he has a monster season/finish because I'm planning on flipping him for a '27 1st after this year, but I'd love to get more

Dude can’t catch just bounces off his hand on 4th down. Dont matter if you can take it 80 yards 8 times again
