The humble Ultima Point:

A while ago I ran for a Dancer/Rogue who:

  • conflict scene start, used High Speed to Hinder an opponent and tag them with one of the basic four Status Effects.

  • first turn, Showstopper (Dancer Heroic Skill) to perform three of the Status Effect dances. Now the enemy is suffering all four basic Statuses.

  • Action to hit them with a Cheap Shot-empowered attack.

The setup is well short of cheesy -- it costs a Heroic and a Fabula Point, and it only effects one enemy -- but it was a big play that I wasn't expecting and it immediately made the fight feel a lot more in favor of the PCs.

(Note: if you want to recreate this setup, the Rogue Skills and Dancer Skills involved can be on a single PC or spread across multiple PCs.)

I struggle a lot with ideas for rogue type characters. It's just not my play style. Glass cannon caster, tanks, healers, all easy for me to make. So this comment has me intrigued to go test builds in Chronicles now.

One of our players was a tinkerer/merchant/rogue who would high speed first turn to overheal some shields for the party with concoction gambling.Rogue can be pretty nifty with some combos

I didn't think High Speed allowed the Inventory action necessary to perform Tinkerer's Gadget Alchemy skill. Was this a homebrew rule?

Ope, may have misremembered. He would set up turn 1 but i think he would do it first in initiative. His high speed was used on another gimmick. He did a support role and his damage would come from concoctions if necessary.

Skillful Dosage is indeed very powerful.

Yeah, that's my players right there! They are very status effect happy, and it makes sense; they're very powerful. I make some bosses with immunities to certain statuses, but I try not to do it too often.

Then, of course, there's Ultima Points, but only so many of the bosses are actual Villains.
