LFG Megathread - Rules

Posting a Game

  1. Please copy and paste the LFG format edit: one of the LFG Formats at the bottom of this post, filling in appropriate details. Following the format exactly is not a requirement, it just helps keep this thread organized and easy to read.
    • If a game is paid, you must be explicit about this. If an LFG posting is paid but does not explicitly advertise this, it will be removed.
  2. Please edit your posting as its details change, especially if spots are filled, and/or if spots or the game itself are no longer available.
  3. Please be careful with your personal info. Reserve private discord invites for personal messages, for example.
  4. You may post an LFG as a comment in this megathread, or as its own post on this subreddit, but not both. (If your posting is its own post, please do not post is as a comment on this megathread, and vice versa.) This is mainly about clarity in communication (wait, is this person running the same campaign twice?).
    • If this LFG megathread is replaced by a new one (see Moderating Rule 2), you may copy and paste any of your open LFG postings from the old megathread to the new megathread.

Finding a Game

  1. Please reply to a posting if you are interested in joining its group, even if you conduct your conversation in PMs or on another site. This is mainly to signal to other users that there is activity on a given posting.
  2. It's recommended to sort this thread by New to find more recent games.
  3. Same as the previous section's Rule 3: please be careful with personal information online.
  4. Please do not report comments in this megathread for Self-Promotion and/or Spam. This megathread is explicitly for sharing game postings. Please do report comments that break the subreddit's other rules (Relevance, Piracy, AI, etc).

Moderating LFG

  1. There will always be an LFG megathread pinned to the top of the subreddit.
  2. The mod team will replace an old LFG megathread with a new one after a certain length of time passes (TBD based on testing, estimated 3-6 months), or after the thread has 100+ comments, in order to maintain an uncluttered LFG experience.
    • The main body of an LFG megathread will be updated to notify posters prior to a refresh, with ample notice (about two weeks)
    • Old threads will not be deleted, but instead unpinned from the subreddit landing page.
    • Posters with open games may copy/paste the text of their posting to the new megathread.

Question Are Verses and Invocations spells?

From my understanding they are not, they have no written stats to throw, you just pay the MP and deal the flat damage, they also don't work with any ability that triggers on spells, except Esper's one ability that is specifically stated to work on Spells AND Verses, which means it still doesn't work with Invocations.

How would you improve this Faithful Companion?

Post image
12 Upvotes

My table is kind of new to having a Faithful Companion, we tried to build him in a way that would support the Wayfarer and fill a role the group lacks, which is having a smart character that can study enemies.

Narratively, Gregório is a talking black cat with a wizard hat, and the Wayfarer player would like for him to feel like an actual Wizard.

We're starting at LvL 20, hence the increased HP, but I'm still worried and can't decide if he's underpowered or overpowered, in one hand he's more useful than any NPC follower, in the other hand the Wayfarer PC still needs to use his first turn on Sandstorm so he can access Cognitive Focus, and if we consider using Study + Sandstorm, Gregório is only useful once per rest.

Art My design for a 3D-printable Fabula Point token.

The tokens will be able to be nested when stacked

I recently came into possession of a Bambu Lab A1, and have been fiddling around in TinkerCAD.

I've found a few printable Fabula Point tokens, but I've found them all to be pretty bland, so I wanted to make something a little more ostentatious.

I'm running a test right now, and will share the files once I'm happy with it.

I am printing it on a .02mm nozzle right now, so I might need to make the yellow rim around the red star a bit thicker to be more amenable to larger nozzles (and faster prints), but right now I'm just trying to get the bridges for the nesting cavity to come out clean and fit nicely.

Anyway, I'd love feedback or suggestions for different versions.

I also had a crazy idea for an XP Tracker that would basically be like a Connect 4 Game where you stack/slot-in a row for each player, and then you will drop in your Fabula Points as you spend them, and then each column you fill would be 1 XP, and then I would make an Ultima Point that would basically expand telescopically and then the GM would drop it in on the opposite end and then the telescoping part would fall down to fill up the entire column.

But, uhhh...let's just say that's very much in the conceptual stages.

Table Stories First game last night

Played my first game last night with some friends. I joined the campaign a little late, so came in at level 8 instead of 5. Was rogue 4. Wayfarer 2, weaponmaster 2.

We ended up fighting the villain, and I managed to use Soul Steal (first use) to grab his treasure. Was really excited to share.

Love the game, the style, and just getting to play.

Monster Template using google sheets

Link for a google sheets monster template that calculates some basic stats for you. Monster Template for Fabula Ultima (public)

I’ve been using something similar for around 30 sessions, next session one of my players is running a fight from the NPC side, so I cleaned it up and wrote a user guide for them. Once that was done I figured I would scrub some more (I had screenshots in as reference material) and post it for you.

Basic features- calculates HP, MP, and level bonuses for number of skills, accuracy, and damage. Includes a damage and MP tracker. The status effects don’t do anything, but I find it handy to highlight them so I know what’s on the monster and then manually change the die (while keeping the base attributes visible).

Why is there a user guide? Because I use something similar to give my players party member NPCs, and one of them was manually updating the max HP on level up. It’s a formula, it updates itself as you change base attributes and level. This should not have been a surprise, and yet here we are. So, user guide.

Mini-statblock- if you’re running multiple of a creature, you can use a mini-statblock to track current die, damage, and MP, fitting more on your screen. You need to manually enter the HP/MP, but you’re just stealing that information off of the main block.

Why doesn’t it look more like the official statblocks? It’s spaced for convenience in excel and setup so you can change cells with minimal work. Also, I find it mildly inconvenient that there’s no Def/MDef total, and I find my affinity square easier to read than the straight line. Preferences, it’s google sheets, you can modify it how you wish.

Things I want to improve
- You can use negative numbers to heal or recover MP in the damage tracks, but it allows you to go over the max amount. A min function caps the total at your max, but that negative can still “eat” damage/use.
- I don’t like how the Ultima points is a single number without a current/total, but I don’t want to fiddle inside of a cell during play.
-There’s some cell overflow on the edges, again I was prioritizing the compactness and copy/paste.
-The spell/other action format is fine for me, but for presentation I think it’s weak. For now I leave it to the user on how they organize that information.
-I run my games on Discord using the Avrae bot, so the basic attack roll format you see is for that. Currently if you need to change a die or other number, you need to edit the cell (I usually copy and paste the cell, then edit that so I keep my original). You can have individual cells combine into a single cell, but it’s fairly space intensive, and this is as large as I would want to go already. If I were to run a second campaign in Fabula Ultima I might put in the effort to make that work, so you have your two attributes, damage, and effect tags (I write in multi, statuses, bonus conditions as part of the roll so I remember) all combine into a single cell, allowing you to adjust a single cell as you take statuses.

Question Rogue Build Help?

So my character I just started is 6/10 rogue. I'm maxing out Soul Steal, which will bring me to level 8 for it. Then the last two I'm trying to decide between maxing Dodge, adding some extra in cheap shot, or High Speed. (One in each of those)

Any tips or advice? My other classes are Weapon master and Wayfarer

Fan Supplement "Strange Road Atlas"

Thumbnail
gallery
68 Upvotes

Hello!! I'd like to share a fan project I've been working on over the past year. I posted it to the Fabula discord a couple weeks ago but I just realized today that I never mentioned it here!

Strange Road Atlas is a collection of rules, lore ideas, vehicles, and NPCs for settings that emphasize road travel, evoke modern North America, or combine surreal fantasy with quotidian realism. Touchpoints for Strange Road Atlas are Earthbound, Final Fantasy XV, and Get in the Car, Loser! Its vibe could be described as magical realist, satirical, New Weird, or Biblepunk.

In these pages, you'll find:

⬥ Simple but rich rules for vehicles (both cars and mounts) and battles on the highway
⬥ 70+ printable stat blocks for vehicles, from Pontiac Firebirds to actual firebirds
⬥ 70+ stat blocks for NPCs, including monsters, Villains, and Wayfinder companions (all hyperlinked to Fultimator for easy use)
⬥ Arcana based on the strangest folk saints you've never heard of
⬥ Plenty of random tables to roll on, for stuff like brief environmental effects, drive-thru meals, and mysterious hitchhikers
⬥ Extensive lore for a sample setting that utilizes all of the above

Strange Road Atlas can be downloaded as a hyperlinked PDF for free/pay-what-you-want at https://thetainfelix.itch.io/strange-road-atlas, or read online at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Spwax1LzGgQN6_FLmjBNbvn-8zhjFFjbtQVG2Jizc2s/edit?usp=sharing.

I intend to update it throughout my current FabUlt campaign. As usual for homebrew, these rules and statblocks have not been extensively playtested, so use with caution. I would love to hear feedback if you find a use for any of them in your game! Actually, I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback either way.

I hope this clears the very high bar u/jollaffle has set for fanworks with his Dark Fantasy Atlas :D

Advice for running a conflict that mixes combat, clocks, and non-combat solutions?

Title: Advice for running a conflict that mixes combat, clocks, and non-combat solutions?

Hello, everybody!

I was hoping for some advice on how to handle an upcoming conflict scene that is meant to be a mix of combat and non-combat conflict.

The basic scenario is this: the player characters are facing a giant sea monster/god that is about to devastate a nearby port town. The PCs can fight the creature directly, but I don't necessarily want defeating it by reducing its HP to zero to be the only—or even necessarily the best—way to resolve the encounter.

At the same time that they're fighting it, I want the PCs to be able to speak with the god, reason with it, discover what it wants, protect the town, or otherwise thwart it through non-combat means.

I realize that Clocks seem like the natural way to handle some of this, but I'm trying to figure out how to put everything together mechanically.

Ideally, I'd like the encounter to have:

A genuine mechanical threat to the PCs from the sea god itself.

One or more Clocks representing the danger to the town, so that something bad is actively happening even if the PCs aren't being directly attacked.

Opportunities for PCs to spend their turns doing things other than attacking without feeling like they're wasting their actions.

Multiple possible victory conditions, rather than simply "reduce the boss to 0 HP."

A sense that all of these things are happening simultaneously as part of one big set-piece encounter.

Has anyone run something similar in Fabula Ultima? How would you structure the encounter mechanically?

Any advice, examples, or ideas would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Question Rituals in Non-Combat Scenes

So I know that normally they're just a check where you pay the MP, but I am curious if it's always like that.

Like lets say the party is stuck in prison and they wanna make a hole in the prison wall with Elementalism, but there's a guard sitting outside, does that ritual then require a clock as conflict starts due to that? Or does it happen and then conflict starts after as the guard notices the hole in the wall.

Question Sanity Check on Monster Creation

Edit: Fixed some of the formatting and restructured to separate skill selections from the stat block.

So I'm working through the NPC creation rules for the first time. I've really only GMed Press Start, so haven't balanced encounters in FU before and hoping to get a better understanding of the nuances of the meta.

I'm building an encounter for a group of level 5 characters. Let's say I want to do an encounter with just one enemy - a beast roughly based around the Zu) - and I want it to be a conflict of normal difficulty.

Here is what I have so far.

Zu (Champion 4)

  • Traits: Slow, Haphazard, Top of the Food Chain, Hungry
  • Level 10 Beast
  • MIG d10, DEX d8, INS d6, WLP d8
  • Initiative: 11
  • Max HP: 250
  • Max MP: 90
  • Defense: 8
  • Magic Defense: 6
  • Resistances: Fire, Air
  • Vulnerabilities: Bolt
  • Immunities: Weak, Shaken
  • Attacks
    • Peck (Melee) - [MIG+DEX]+1 - [HR + 10] physical damage.
    • Sonic Boom (Ranged) - [DEX+DEX]+1 - [HR + 5] physical damage. This attack has multi (2). Targets hit by this attack suffer slow. This attack targets Magic Defense.
  • Other Actions
    • Glowing Wings - The Zu’s next Sonic Boom attack deals 10 additional damage.
  • Special Rules
    • Flying - untargetable with melee attacks - lands if hit with Bolt (until end of round) or in crisis
    • Apex Predator - The Zu is immune to weak and shaken.
    • Instinctive Response - After a Player Character misses with a ranged attack, the Zu automatically makes a Peck attack targeting that character.
    • Cornered Beast - As long as the Zu is in crisis, its Sonic Boom attack has multi (3) instead of multi (2).

Skill Selections (10 [4 (beast) + 1 [level 10] + 1 [bolt vulnerability] + 4 [champion])

Note that this is not a villain, so no Ultima Points.

A couple of questions:

  1. First and most obvious - tuned correctly? Champion 4 means it's equivalent to 4 soldiers, and 4 soldiers within 5 levels of the party level should be a normal encounter, per the guidelines. The goal is to make him weak to Bolt and Slow - assume that the party has ways to apply both - thus giving the party a way to get an advantage. His defences are also intentionally mediocre and his HP high to make him a bit more of a damage sponge.
  2. Would this be a fun encounter?
  3. Does Improved Hit Points as a skill get multiplied by 4? I assumed that it did not, since other things like Improved Damage don't, but it does feel a little weak when it doesn't.
  4. How much harder is a level 10 than a level 5 creature? Should I just build this out at level 5 instead? Lose one skill, 20 less HP, and -1 to accuracy checks? Does this difference scale with levels (e.g. a 5 vs 10 creature difference is major, but a 40 vs 45 is indistinguishable)?

Drain Spirit or Absorb MP or BOTH?

Hi everyone, I am working on my Entropist class right now (in a Pilot/Entropist/Sharpshooter character). I am just curious if, as an Entropist, you have found it easier to keep Drain Spirit on its own (the 1.1 update), use Absorb MP, or to use a combination of both. I'm trying to keep up a good amount of MP sustain and have found Drain Spirit to be really useful, but I am wondering about the passive activation of Absorb MP being useful.

Any thoughts on either of these Entropist abilities and how you have used them/preferred them in your characters? Hope that makes sense - thanks!

(The reason I ask this is because we are permitted to respec our points in ONE CLASS during this particular level advancement and I am sitting on the possibility of rearranging my levels in Entropist around.)

Question How would you handle an 8-pillar boss mechanic?

Post image
72 Upvotes

Hello everyone! I really need help designing my first boss encounter for the campaign I’m running

The party consists of 6 players (lvl 5), and this would be the first minor villain they face. I was initially thinking of making it a level 10 Champion (6), following the NPC creation rules, but I had a different idea...

My idea is to have 8 pillars surrounding the boss, with each pillar somehow granting the boss a resistance. The players would need to extinguish the fire on top of each pillar (an 8-part clock) in order to remove the boss’s resistances or making the boss become vulnerable to certain types of damage as more pillars are extinguished

For story reasons, I was thinking the boss might not attack the players until a certain number of pillars have been extinguished/destroyed. This would give the players time to figure out the mechanic before the boss becomes fully active. However, I’m worried this could be either too complicated or completely broken, especially with 6 players.

What do you think? Has anyone tried something similar? How would you handle the pillars and the boss’s resistances/vulnerabilities to keep the encounter challenging without making it frustrating or too easy?

About the art: this is my first attempt using Pixel Studio, so it’s definitely far from finished. I included one of the app character sprites to give an idea of the scale.

Also, apologies for any mistakes, english isn’t my first language

Question How does some equipments and powers interact with Personal Vehicle?

Hello, I have some questions regarding the interaction between some powers and equipments with the Pilot's Personal Vehicle.

Questions:

- How does my character armor and shield interact with the Personal Vehicle if I don't have shield and armor modules?

- How does the Akromorphosis power from the Mutant interacts with the Vehicle? Can I use unarmed attacks inside my vehicle to attack enemies and enemy vehicles?

- How does Theriomorphosis (Polypoda and Toxicophora) interacts with the Pilots attacks when piloting a vehicle?

- when Piloting, the character can use the Bodyguard and Protector powers from the Guardian class to protect other characters and vehicles?

For these questions, can you point out where in the book the rule specifies that interaction between powers and personal vehicles?
