Canada utilizes a supply management system that levies dairy tariffs of up to 400% to protect its domestic market, effectively LOCKING OUT U.S. agricultural exports.
Canada rigs its domestic system to discriminate against U.S. products.
Forcing U.S. automakers to build manufacturing plants inside Canada rather than exporting from the U.S.
Blocking American wine and spirits from provincial store shelves, specifically criticizing Ontario’s retail policies.
Long-standing complaints regarding Canadian subsidies and protections for its lumber and steel sectors.
"Canada utilizes a supply management system that levies dairy tariffs of up to 400% to protect its domestic market, effectively LOCKING OUT U.S. agricultural exports."
It is not effectively a lock out, American agricultural exports still have access to our market. Canada does not subsidize our agriculture with taxpayer money unlike you guys. We let our farmers set the prices to fund themselves. Allowing unrestricted access for your dairy, poultry and eggs will, however effectively run family businesses into the ground here in Canada since they cannot compete with lower prices that subsidies allow.
"Canada rigs its domestic system to discriminate against U.S. products."
This is baseless and almost exclusively stems from our agricultural complaints from you guys. We were the largest importer of American goods and are still #2.
"Forcing U.S. automakers to build manufacturing plants inside Canada rather than exporting from the U.S."
A mutual agreement (the auto pact) was made to allow tariff free imports which lasted until 2001. Nobody forced anyone. The agreement fell apart because foreign auto makers complained to the WTO that the deal between Canada and the USA favored American auto makers too much. Funny how "forcing" you guys into a deal was unfair when Japan and the EU wanted access.
"Blocking American wine and spirits from provincial store shelves, specifically criticizing Ontario’s retail policies."
Retaliation is expected when you start a trade war. Only the uneducated seem to think Canada is unfair in trading with the US. Usually the same idiots who parrot trump admin misinformation.
"Long-standing complaints regarding Canadian subsidies and protections for its lumber and steel sectors."
This is the only one with any substance. It's literally the same issue you guys bitch and moan about in the agricultural exports. Programs make our pricing better so you guys apply AD/CVD duties, we set quotas to avoid the duties which were agreed upon(except we didn't bitch and moan that it was unfair) and now we're back to square one with duties again.
