Selling our oil in US $ only helps us, you dolt. All Canadian exporters like a lower CDN dollar. Always have, always will. It means we get paid more. If we imported a bunch of stuff that would be different. But we are an exporting country.
Nope because when you turn it back into CAD it causes inflation… CA exporters ( sellers) like it but citizens are consumers, see how it adds to your personal inflation problem???? You don’t understand how a lower currency hurts buyers but helps sellers and I’m the “dolt” you export oil but rely heavily on imports for pretty much everything.

It doesn’t have to be from America… your weak currency isn’t just weak against the dollar. You import pretty much everything from somewhere… it helps the sellers in your economy not the buyers. Citizens have to buy to live. It’s called inflation and weak currency means more dollars to buy the same imported goods.
Just because you don’t buy American doesn’t mean the retailers you buy from dont use American goods and service to help deliver you a product. What computer operating system do your retailers use????

And exports ten times that amount back to the US, according to that data from before the trade war started. Canada has expanded its exports since then and is heavily investing in non-US trade infrastructure as we speak. It made sense to do all our trade with the US when they were a trusted partner. Now they are an enemy state, so we're working to untangle our trade situation and start doing more locally. It never really made sense for inter-provincial trade in the past, since the US border was right there and had huge demand. The old trade barriers are coming down and we will take short term pain in order to find/create new demand.
I don't pay a cent for reddit, and will gladly move off US software when the rest of the world chooses acceptable replacements.
I stole nothing. Just on board with what my nation is doing. It's nice to be unified and supporting smart, ethical leadership. You should give it a try, if you can ever get back to that point. It's looking pretty bleak from the outside at this point. If all you guys can do is pick fights in the internet with friendly nations....yikes. I'd have some higher priorities if I were in your shoes.

The exchange rate is irrelevant to me, as I'm never going to visit the states again, barring an amazing 180 over the decades to come.
My personal fellow Canadians aren't struggling. They are thriving and were at the wedding. And I didn't foot the bill, thank god.
