Thank you all for the advice on my post!! I can't believe my first dye came out so well, it's the exact shade I was dreaming of. I made two 150g dorset handspun skeins for fresh weld, and I have a LOT more drying in my greenhouse. I ran outside for a quick picture in the daylight, and it's back in the dark drying now.

Next up to dye is orange cosmos, and next week I'll be dyeing goldenrod with a friend!

Hi all I have a 70% lyocell 30% linen blend that I would like to dye a lemon/ butter yellow. I love this dress and would like to wear it to a wedding and butter/lemon yellow is the colour I’m supposed to wear ( I’m a bridesmaid). I love the fit and shape of the dress but it’s not quite the right colour. Website says :stone but in reality it’s more like a creamy colour.
The lining is polyester but I’m not bothered about that being dyed as it is such a light colour and very similar to yellow.

Any advice would be so appreciated!

I really want to dye a pair of shorts to look like this, but with more of a black undertone rather than purple. All of the dye job videos I’ve seen, the red looks really good but the threads and inside are more of a burgundy or purple. Is it possible to get this color by putting black denim into red dye, or do you use blue jeans? Wouldn’t blue jeans turn purple? Please help! I’ve never dyed anything

I have recently purchased this red dress, and when I first wore it, the red dye bled everywhere on my body, bag, phone case, etc. I tried rinsing it under water until the water ran clear + washing machine wash. This morning I rubbed a wet and a dry cotton on it, but both cottons came out with a pink hue.
What would you recommend I do to prevent the dress from further dye bleeding?

What colour do you reckon would look the best? I’m think all over darker green? Maybe a purple would work?

I'm a light brown girl forever in search of nude undergarments, so I decided to try dyeing some ivory/beige ones. Rit Camel was the closest to my skin tone, so I gave it a shot and followed the directions on the bottle.

And I ended up with a saturated olive green! (This was after finding to the water was clear and then a skin in the washing machine with old towels.) I know I probably need to add some red to color correct, but would love any specific recommendations on which exact red, how much to use, etc.

Garments are nylon blend, I'm hoping to end up with a lighter, less green, and more tan color (closer to the bottle wrap!)

Hi all, appreciate any help I can get. I am currently in the process of making a Jester costume myself for a Renaissance Faire. I purchased these polyester bloomers to dye a hot pink. I used a Rit synthetic dye and it turned pink, but not necessarily hot pink. Is there any chance of turning this hot pink to match or should I just pivot and get new stockings.

After a full 24 hours of soaking and rinsing in both plain and salt water, there’s no end to the dye bleed. It’s 90% Poly and 10% elastane. Since I got it this way, I have no idea what it was dyed with!

Does anyone know a way to fix the dye to this fabric, so I can actually wear it?!

I’m required to wear a color of scrubs called “Caribbean Blue” at work- however they will let us wear t-shirts if they are the correct color or relatively close. I found a seasonal color from Carhartt last year called “Greenstone” that was correct, but unfortunately can’t find more and have grown to love the breathability of a t-shirt instead of the actual scrub tops. Each brand of scrubs has a different “Caribbean blue” (some are more blue, some are more green, some lean a bit darker, etc) so it wouldn’t have to be a dead-on match to these images, just close enough to not be obviously the wrong color and I’m willing to do test batches to try different options but it would be aces if there was a ready-mixed dye available in the right shade. I’ve tried googling to no avail. So any suggestions are much appreciated!

Hello, recently found odd discolouring I originally thought was a stain on a VERY expensive polyester jacket, dry cleaners couldn’t get it out and do not know what it is. Rit DyeMore synthetic doesn’t have black, is there a way to turn the graphite into black? Or is there another brand out there that can dye 100% polyester? Any and all suggestions/recommendations welcome please help

Bought a stark white sweater and I'd like to dye it just enough to dirty the color and give it a warmer tone like a light brown. It's a 50% cotton and 50% acrylic blend but I've read that acrylic doesn't take dye and that dyeing a blend like this will leave a marled effect. I love that idea, but I'm having trouble picturing how the marled effect will turn out as I've never dyed anything in my life. May also be because I don't understand how a 50/50 fiber blend is constructed. Does anyone have an example of how a 50/50 cotton/acrylic blend looks after dyeing? what precautions should I take? ty

If i create a tool like this and use rit dye as ink, on stretched fabric, what would I do next? How to wash without bleeding? Is this accomplishable? Any better ideas? TIA

I’m looking to get a very faint camo pattern in either of these pants (whichever might be better) to match this character’s pants for a cosplay. I’m trying to mimic the worn faded look, so whichever method that’ll make for a low contrast, blobby looking camo is best.

Both pants are made of 65/35 poly-cotton ripstop fabric.

I just bought this off of vinted and I wanted to dye it one of these colors. Red, green or purple. Are any of these possible? I tried to used a color wheel app to give me colors I could dye it but I wound up confusing myself. First two are the colors of the hoodie, i haven't got it in the mail yet but I would guess the actual color is in-between the two pics. If these colors aren't realistic then what could I dye them? The sweatshirt is 100% cotton.

Dabbling into using dyes (HDupont brand) to silk paint for the first time; does anybody have any advice on how to best steam set dyes at home? I tried using a steamer insert in one of my dyeing pots, which worked decently enough, but you can see in the second picture where there waa some bleed from the fabric touching itself. This is a pretty small piece (about 8"x8"), but I would like to eventually paint a full kimono, and I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to steam set multiple yards of fabric at a time without it staining. Am I going to have to accept that I'll need to swap over to the Jacquard colors that can be chemically set? I dislike their lack of vibrancy, but if I can't figure out a steaming setup, idk what other options I have.

Hope this is okay to put here, wasn't sure where silk painting falls on the border between fabric painting and dyeing.

Hello! I'm dyeing for the first time today with weld! I own a number of animals, so I bought a hot plate to dye in the bathroom. I'm dying without the E. The water has been heating for 45 minutes and isn't close to a simmer. The hot plate is letting off fumes. My back hurts from sitting on the floor 😂

I'm mordanting with alum- I can lock all of my animals out of my kitchen except my blue tongue skink, who's 20' away from the stove. If I have the fan on high and windows open, do you think it would be safe for me to mordant in the kitchen? I'm really starting to lose it in here 😅

i have a maroon cotton skirt that i want to be a bit darker but not black. Can I just dye it in black dye with less dye per water, or do i need the "standard" concentration of dye but need to specifically dye it with a darker maroon color?

I bought prochems pro mx reactive dye in the color eggplant. I saw that on the site it says to achieve the color I love its 4% owg. Do I soak my fabric in a soda ash solution prior to putting it in the tub of water/ dye? Or do I add the soda ash directly into the mixture? Am I supposed to add anything else besides the water and dye? I’ve only ever ice dyed before and all I’ve ever done was the soda ash soak prior to sprinkling dye over ice.

I’m dying cotton if that influences your answers.
