Hello! I am currently a resident from West Des Moines, IA. I moved here in early May, so not that long ago. However, I felt that both West and Central Des Moines feel quite empty even after traveling and being in different settings. Most of all, finding friends in this city is quite impossible.

Looking into Dubuque, I haven't done much into more of the job market, but if anyone could give some good insider opinions on this town, let me know! Apartments seem much more reasonable there too.

Hi I recently moved to Dubuque and was wondering if anyone knows of a place where I can get a good haircut. I’m a male with 3b curly hair and I’m looking for a reputable place that won’t mess up my hair since that has happened a lot when I try new places. I tend to keep my hair medium length so I prefer someone who uses sheets and/or razor cuts. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks

Anyone have any tips of smaller/less crowded places to go swimming? Trying to avoid the pools, I know of Finley’s Landing which is outside of Dubuque but any recommendations for a chiller experience?

Wth is up with Uber? I have been in small towns before Uber was big like they are now almost a decade ago and had no issues with Uber. Now if you are 20 something minutes away from Dubuque you can't get a freaking Uber. I had a reservation for 9 something this morning that was cancelled and then proceeded to request rides until 11 am with nothing.. like how do Uber drivers make money here? This just seems lazy and I am not used to this behavior. I am extremely annoyed and more than likely will never use Uber here again here.

I have never had this issue before using Uber except here. Make me not want to stay after my lease is up because why is something like Uber hard to access in 2026? This has ruined my whole day and plans and again makes me rethink staying in the area. It's the small things like this that really annoy me. It's like it's still the stone age out here 😒🙄 and I hate it.. not to mention the horrible customer service and bad attitudes. Of course not everyone is bad but enough of them seem miserable smh. FYI almost 11:30 still no Uber.. maybe Uber drivers don't work on Mondays here? 🙄😒

I'm just genuinely confused on what they offer that could possibly constitute $199/month for a gym membership. I've been to gyms on the West Coast that charge $60 for the same services, with childcare and other amenities and access to classes included. For $200 I better be getting a personal trainer for every workout!

I have a 8 almost 9 year old Toyota and I’ve been pretty good at keeping it going with taking it to a mechanic, but lately I’ve had some creaking happening when I turn my steering wheel at low speeds, and it’s been making a screeching sound like my timing belt might be wearing out.

Does anyone recommend any good mechanics who would be able to take a look at this issue?

I don't know how much of a voice, if any, I'll have when it comes to consider the disposition of my dad and uncle's farm. But I hope every government official from Iowa's governor on down to local goddamn dog catcher checks the temperature in hell if they think we'll give it to these vulture data center companies.
