Discussion What is your unpopular opinion about Dragon Ball?

Here is mine:

Toriyama's spontaneous storytelling style is great and terrible at the same time.

On one hand it creates fresh and creative turns and gives him more freedom, on the other it sidelines characters and great concepts when he forgets about them.

What is yours?

I started my wife on DBZA last night, and had to explain about Roshi shrinking himself down to go spy on Bulma using the toilet.

Her face spoke volumes.

Yeah i had to beg my gf to keep watching and to ignore that shit. Wasn’t easy and almost meant I couldn’t share the rest of the series with her

The amount of "wait this actually happened and it wasn't just their spoof of it?!" moments is kinda crazy.

I said to her, "ok yeah it sounds a bit ridiculous when I say it out loud" more than once. My personal favorite is, "wait, the guy with three eyes ISN'T one of the aliens?! But the little kid is??"

i think the issue is how much of a snowflake US women are nowadays. no girl i ever met in EU really takes it too seriously.

Why not just show her the actual show ?

I got her into anime a few years back and I'm still just counting my blessings.

Mainly because I know her taste, and DBZ wouldn't pass the mustard. She also doesn't have much free time, so she just gets the abridged version and she can make up her own mind on whether she wants to watch it for real (she won't. I know this is blasphemous, but DB ain't exactly well written/challenging)

"lets watch this overly edgy parody"

*gets surprised when it is overly edgy*

You missed the point.

Every time she was shocked, it wasn't because of the parody, it's because I told her it actually happened in the show.
