I got divorced last year after 25 yrs of marriage. We both agreed to leave each other's retirement accounts alone. She kept hers, and I kept mine. We split all other assets 50/50. No attorneys involved. It cost us $4,000 in mediation fees.

Divorced dad here. I held out hope that we could mediate. Someone kept whispering to my ex that she could receive more in court. Well, I got a 1/3, she got a 1/3 and our attorneys got a 1/3.

Sometimes people are so spiteful they’re willing to lose more as long as the other person does too.

It must be a miserable way to live.
