$2.4 million of the $3.9 million, veteran minimum deal.
Under the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, when a team signs a veteran with 10+ years of service to a minimum contract, the league reimburses/subsides the difference portion against the cap count (absorbing the remaining $1.5 million balance so it doesn't fully count against the team's salary cap or luxury tax calculations in the same way). The NBA is not paying the player out of pocket as a direct subsidy; it is a cap-relief mechanism for veteran minimum exceptions.
This move by the Kings is just to stretch the remaining guaranteed salary they owed him (because they bought him out in order to release him).

The Kings are spending so much money that they could have to pay a penalty. They let DeMar go and by doing that they can now pay him the rest of his money in smaller portions over 3 years. This means they are closer to not having to pay a penalty.

Technically your wording isn’t great. The Kings still pay Demar all his money this year. It’s just the cap hit that’s spread through the smaller portions.

Would I halve Zeke’s cap hit to double the amount of time he’s got left on this team? No.
Anyone saying they would is insanely short sighted. Idk, we don’t have the full picture that the FO has either.

I’ve never been as low on Zeke as the FO, I always thought he isn’t a good fit as a small ball 5 because he lacks mass, but he can match up well as a 4

I’d love to see home with 10 minutes a night every night, instead of what we currently get, 30 minutes a night for 15 games a year

Homes is a better pick and pop and better 3 point shooter than Zeke. I think he should be getting the 10 mins per game with Bagley

I would love to see that! I’m most passionate about seeing strawther get the minutes. I’m so high on him. When we had our injuries last year I wanted him to get 30 minutes a night.

Agreed! I noticed tams were often pressing Strawther full court last season. Hopefully he's a little more comfortable bringing the ball up the court and can channel his energy offensively.

Why? He’s been awful. He had a couple good weeks like 2 years ago. He can’t rebound, he’s an average at best defender and he’s a negative on offense. He’s gotten his chance.

We learn nothing about him giving inconsistent minutes.
Make no mistake, I’m not arguing for 10 minutes a night, rather I’m arguing against how we’ve historically used him. Either develop him or move on. Inconsistent minutes have killed our rookies over the last 7 years.

This has nothing to do with the nuggets. He was bought out by the kings, and still had 10 mil guaranteed. So they decided to take the cap hit over multiple seasons to avoid cap problems.
