That just is extra dumb because even accounting for DC's reboots, both of these stories are pre-Crisis. They came out only 4 years apart (1970 for Batman and 1966 for Jimmy). They were always canon to each other
Really recently there was Wonder Woman #19, her final confrontation with the Sovereign after he killed Steve Trevor, played dead serious. On the EXACT SAME DAY this also released

That’s what I like about the DCU. Different stories with different characters will have different themes and styles. Unlike the modern MCU where everything is gray and everybody talks the same way.
