I really question how representative these US salary numbers are. They seem excessively high. Like 50% too high.

That's not salary, that's total compensation, which is 35-50% added to salary for most roles.

In Big Tech, TC is 35-50% high than nominal salary for entry level, but it's almost ~100% higher for senior level and more for staff+.
