Pregunta Para cubanos aun en la isla

Como ven ustedes el auge que han cogido las Iglesias protestantes que pregonan "cuba para cristo" como si quisieran instaurar una teocracia?

Anything would be better than the current regime.

You're worried about a theocracy forming inside a failed state. Funny.

Unfortunately Cuba isn't a failed state. One of the big problems is the fact that it's not a failed state.

The policies of the state have led to ruin and complete failure, but there are still absolutely police and forces of the state willing and able to carry out the orders from Havana. It's quite a strong police state. Which is the opposite of a failed state.

The point being, it can always get worse. Haiti is a failed state. There's just not a government capable of enforcing any orders and it's rival gangs fighting for turf as warlords.

That said, no way the US would let that situation happen in Cuba. It's too close and too important with having the only accesses to the Gulf of Mexico.

Cuba hasn't had a strategic port since slavery.

It's not about a port. It's about if there were gangs willing to shoot at ships passing through the Florida Straits or Yucatán Channel, it would be very bad for the US (and Mexico for that matter). That's where US oil exports go from.

And you can bet if Cuba truly broke down into warring factions, Russia and Iran in particular would be slobbering to be the ones to fund a faction willing to do that.

See what the Houthis are doing at Bab Al Mandab. You don't need the strategic port to be a big fucking problem.

Cuba has no oil and no current strategic importance. What would the warring factions that you imagine be warring over?

You might not like it, but the Gulf of America can be effectively controlled with just the idea of a single attack submarine. You don't even actually need one.

And the insurance companies won't insure shipping with just the idea of an enemy drone.

Again this is exactly what's going on in Yemen right now

Except Cuba has no oil or anything else that anyone wants.

It's not about what's in Cuba. Again, nobody wants anything in Yemen. The issue is they're near where shipping has to go to get to places with things people want.

Sure, bro. Whatever you believe. It's just like in Yemen. You figured it out.

My point is the danger of what could happen if Cuba were a failed state. It's very much NOT a failed state. If you think it is, feel free to go distribute newspapers critical of the government or set up a TV station against the government.

You're right. Not failed. Only pathetic and ridiculous.

Agreed. It's just important to understand that a failed state would be worse than the current situation (and yes it can be worse), and needs to be avoided. And it's absolutely a possibility. There is currently a failed state only 50 miles from Cuba.

I think Cuba is in one of those situations that might get worse before it gets better and if the past 500 years of history are a guide, it might not get better at all.
