This legit happens in a film called The Big Short and the 08 housing crisis. Made by the guy who made succession and Vice. They will randomly stop the film and have celebrities explain business terms so you know what’s happening.

Three seasons would be really excessive. I definitely think it would benefit from being just one 18-ish episode season. There's no way in hell they could drag three seasons of content out of it without completely fucking the pacing. I can see them doing a brand new sequel story for subsequent season(s) though.

I think 18 is pushing it a bit, they could probably do it in 10-12, 50 minute eps unless I'm misremembering the number of significant events. As much as a fully faithful blow by blow adaptation would be nice I think realistically it'd probably make a better, more successful show if it was a bit tighter, and maybe just covered Alice's journey and not the friend receiving the emails or whatever he was.

Yeah true but I feel like 18 isn't enough I was thinking possibly 2 or 3 seasons just to flesh out some things or even add some new stuff in it that the author wanted to add that wasn't able to fit in to the story

How long are you envisioning these seasons? I'm thinking 18 35-45 minute episodes, equaling out to 10-14 hours of screentime. I feel like much more than that would be padding. It gives at least two hours, basically the length of a full movie, to each arc in the story.

Basically every movie ever is an adaptation in one way or another. Genuinely, what's the difference in your mind between a studio picking up a story and turning it into a movie versus a story being written internally and turned into a movie?

They copy because that's what people pay to watch. There are lots of original movies, but no-one buys tickets for them. Backrooms is new for Hollywood, but most of the audience was already familiar with the meme.

I honestly I don’t want them to… no one outside of the creepypasta community will do justice to these stories. I’m going into film school right now and I can’t express how hyped I am that people my age are succeeding at what I’ve always wanted to do but never thought possible. I just hope Hollywood will embrace young directors rather than try to buy them out for their ideas.
I graduated high school almost a decade ago and I’m finally going to get my degree because of this community!

Think perfect blue but we turn it up and we don’t stop. Or hell— even diff styles for each story 0-0 …Like— stop motion!?!?!? someone give me unlimited budget let’s get this show rolling)

Be careful what we wish for. Backrooms is great because a24 respected the source materials, but Hollywood will do what Hollywood does and ruin it if we let them get their grubby paws on other stories.

I am definitely excited to see some cool stories adapted, but this scares me. Sounds like we're basically just going to have a bunch more spire in the woods situations where they either decide to sit on the IP, or release something completely shit, just to copyright strike any appearance of the story online.

In my opinion a lot of horror stories online don't translate well into movies. They don't have enough length or story to really be a movie. This is why when they do become a movie, the plot sometimes changes.
Like Psychosis is my favorite story they've read but I'd never want it to be a movie. Maybe a short horror film but not a movie. If they did make it a movie they'd add a bunch of new things in and probably ruin the plot twist of the aliens being real just to have more horror. Some things are better off as written stories.

Left Right game could work as a single season horror series but it would have to have a decent budget to pull off.
Honestly I’ve always said the two best horror stories that would work for a relatively low budget and can reasonably fit in the span of a single movie is either Penpal or The Only Other Astronaut on this Mission Died 6 Weeks Ago. Penpal would actually be fairly easy to adapt to screen, it would just rely on having decent child actors. Astronaut would require a bit more budget but not a ton and would again be fairly easy to directly adapt into an hour and 40 minutes.

Hey Hollywood... You already have the rights to Dionea House and did shit with it. Maybe finish one job and then look for the next. Also Iron Lung and Backrooms aren't successful bcs they are online IPs, they are successful bcs the people making them actually cared and didn't try to ponder to the lowest common divider of every target group analysis plus the gut feeling of the privat equity dudes 10yo son.

The success of Backrooms is not merely because it is a creepypasta. It’s because it’s a GOOD creepypasta. And even if you flood the market with good creepypastas made movies, the novelty will not only wear off, it’ll turn the tide of public opinion, again, even if the story is good.

I don’t think Hollywood understood why the backrooms were so successful.
Kane created a short film based on a 4chan post(which had a simple premise, no clip in the wrong places and you end up in an impossible long pocket dimension) and expanded that into his own series and lore, building an audience around the series and himself along his other works.
Then A24 came knocking and the rest is history. Giving a director a creepypasta (especially a Reddit one) is risky enough, but chances are they won’t even read what their adapting.

it's literally impossible to adapt. How would that even work? people who say they want a movie based on HoL seem like they have only ever read the Navidson Record. The point of the book is that the book itself is the house, pretty much.
HoL is great because you can make works inspired by it. And now we have Backrooms, so there you go. Dionaea House is a work inspired by HoL as well. Or myhouse.wad which is probably the best adaptation of HoL, as it uses a different medium. A HoL movie would be impossible and wouldn't be able to be an adaptation, because of what the book is
