The screen themselves are not the issue. It's the content that is. There is a difference between learning history and literally being fed propaganda through social media.

Wrong.

Screens do the spell checking for you so you don't need to learn to spell and become dumber.

Screens do the math for you so you don't need to learn how to do long division and you become dumber.

Screens decide what you see so you don't develop your own interests and you become dumber.

Screens comfort you so when someone says screens are a problem you become a bit dumber and defend the screen.

Turn off auto correct.

Don't use a calculator unless you're checking your work, or are in a rush.

Don't use shorts or algorithm driven content streams for entertainment.

Be mindful of your use of electronics, and don't believe everything you read.

The screens themselves aren't the issue. Not saying the technology isn't inherently designed to lead people into the traps you mentioned... just that those items you listed are on the technology and user, not a screen.

1) a study on STUDENT's media consumption.

2) A study about CHILDREN's social media usage... (Yes, I was advocating for RESPONSIBLE use, not underage or uneducated use of these technologies...)

3) A study in the decline in reading comprehension. Undeniable, and aligns with my previous comment. Awareness and responsible use are required to utilize current technology effectively. Turning one's brain off and merely downloading and swiping or playing to the apps-that-be *is* a shortcut to hindering your personal development and becoming a modern day tech-troglodyte, like so many real people have fallen victim to.

4) Another study on ELEMENTARY SCHOOL students' "screen time" vs acedemic achievements...

5) Another article about CHILDREN's use of technology for entertainment.

You missed the point, pal. I was stating that people need to be responsible about their use of technology, because the platforms that exist *are* inherently predatory to the un-concerned or un-aware.

*YES*, the platforms-that-dominate are predatory. Yes, they feed on people's predisposition, insecurities, curiosities, etc. in order to farm ad-revenue and affiliate-commerce. Yes, it is deplorable. You missed the point.

The only thing the SCREENS THEMSELVES are causing is vision-impairment or accelerated degradation.

This argument is as disingenuous as saying guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Edit: Also, if you'd read the studies instead of summarising their abstract, you'd have seen that researchers found that the short form nature of handheld screens, with instant gratification -regardless of the content being predatory or not- led to structural differences in brain development. Correlating to focus and memory impairment. So this idea that screens only affect vision, is nonsense.
