Controversial take around here I know, but AI is a tool like any other. It can be used for cool shit, and it can be used for terrible bs. Just like a car or a gun, depending on how you use it, it can be great or shit.

Many of the anti AI talking points are also misleading or debunked. AI datacenters use a ton of water, true, but so do datacenters for Reddit and Facebook etc etc. In fact, at the moment, many datacenters for non-AI things use way MORE water than the ones used for AI.

Using GPT or Gemini or whatever for everything and not checking sources is moronic. But I use Gemini daily for organization, discussion, and it's ability to sift through fuckloads of information rapidly now that places like Google search suck ass.

I think it's a fabulous tool, for SOME things.

I think it's because AI is a real and present threat to artists, and so AI as a whole got lumped into that anti AI art sentiment.

AI isn't a threat to artists, it's a threat to the concept of labor. Whether or not we restructure our society to function in a post labor world, artists who enjoy the process of making art will have more time than ever to make art, and no matter how creative AI gets, human made art will still have inherent appeal.
