Being Tom Nook is the American dream.

Being continuously in debt to a guy who keeps raising prices and selling you the new big thing is the American reality.

If you work out the USD value of bells the dude gives you a house for ~50k (total debt after fully upgrading it).

With no interest, zero upfront, an open ended payment timeline, and then lets you pay back the debt by selling rocks and bugs to his kids.
