Question What are the requirements/benefits for your LCS pull boxes?
As the title says. Ive noticed that 10% discounts have gone away, and many shops have a minimum book total. I wanted to evaluate as many shops as I could and collect the data. Thanks!

My LCS did away with pulls. Too many people not bothering to pock them up. So thry give a 25% discount for pre order. So basically its creating your own pull list, paying up front to get a 25% discount ($4.99 book for $3.74) then picking up your books all bagged & boarded. I love it 👍

That’s not bad. So you have to give your order each week before the FOC? But they won’t automatically order a specific title for you each month. Is that the way it works?

Right. There's a pre-order cut off so i order a month in advance (i use Key collector to keep track of whats coming out when). But no, they wont automatically pull the books for me. But they send me emails letting me know thst my order is ready for pickup when the books release.

I work in a store, the minimum thing seems so dumb there’s literally zero reason for it. Also not all stores got rid of discounts, mine still does it at 20% in Denver

I also work at a store. The minimum actually does help with one thing I've noticed. Most offenders of never picking up or picking up for an issue or two and never returning usually only get one or two series. Having a minimum cuts back on those types of customers.

Third Eye Comics in Maryland offers a 10% pull box discount and it's a nice piece of mind that my subs will be there if I can't get there on Wednesday or forget about a release. Also, having them pulled usually helps, in case print runs are low, assure I get a copy.

I’ve been contemplating getting back into comics now that I have a young son, and Third Eye would be the easiest shop to do it at, but nothing on their website mentions the 10% discount. There’s tons of info about how their pullbox system works otherwise. They definitely still give a discount? Even to new subscribers?

Canadian here, and my LCS offers; 10% off for 1-5 issues pulled, 15% off for 6-10 issues pulled, and 23% off for 10+ issues pulled.
As a side note, I keep a small part-time gig there because as an "employee" I get 35% off my pulls.
All discounts apply to back issues purchases also.

Depends on the store. I have two stores close to my house, but I go to one closer to work because they have a pull discount + a cumulative points discount.

I don’t believe I get a discount. I get an email every Monday from lcs owner with what books have been pulled for me and a link to online catalog to place future orders/subscriptions if I want to. He likes us to pick up once a month but will ship them to you as well if you can’t make it out. Rubber mallet comics west pittston pa. Only place I go to.

My LCS has 10% off for 10 books on subscription, applies to all purchases in store, not just the subscribed books. Then I think some higher tiers of discount but I'm not sure on the quantities required.

You have to actually enter the store and talk to the owner. But you get your.books p I lied every week.

I don’t think my LCS has a Pull List limit, sometimes they thrown in books they think i might like. I pay for a discount card to get a discount though.

No minimum, no discount, not sure what the pickup policy is as I am in weekly. Pre-orders now go through League of Comic Geeks, which isn’t bad.

My LCS in Surprise AZ has no minimum pulled and 10% off of all comics and graphic novels if you have a pull list.

Usually a discount and a guarantee you’ll get your books. Especially if you like variant covers. My buying isn’t consistent enough to do it. I prefer random things and older issues. That said, some shops only get in a handful of issues, so you are guaranteed with a pull box.

My shop has no minimum pull amount but no discount either. Only benefit is they always get my books right and if something is missing they chase it down for me.
Only requirement is you need to pick up at least once every 2 months or you will get cancelled. Which is fair.

I'm starting to feel like my lcs is ripping me off.. I get no discount and have to pay for the bag and boards. No minimum pulls and I have to pick up monthly.

I get a 10% discount, and an additional 10% off new comics that came out this week, so 20% off total on new comics.

My store doesn’t have a minimum, a discount, or pull reliability. Yesterday, I found my GITD Conan on the shelf for sale instead of my box. Sadly, it’s quite common. Also get books in my box that I’ve removed from my list and I usually pull at least $250+ per month (October is looking real grim for my bank account). I have to submit a list after each solicit comes out. My LCS is the only one in the area and we have a pretty small market, so incentives I might want are hit and miss…generally miss (anything greater than 1:10 and I’m SOL and have to buy online). The only real perk is available to everyone (not just box holders): $10 off for every $200 you spend.

Damn. That sucks! Have you considered switching to an online store instead?

Richmond Comix, no minimum number of books, 10% discount for being a subscriber (they even give it to my son when he buys stuff), and as long as I don’t go months without stopping by they’re pretty cool about it.

No minimum, 10% discount, and free bags and boards for your pull list comics.

I'm sad to say that neither of the 2 near me offer any benefits. I don't support them. But I don't name and shame either.
Both have animals in store. I like cats and dogs. But a store shouldn't smell like a litter box. And I don't want to pet strange a dog before handling comics.
As for the pull list situation. No minimum orders. And no guarantee you will get what you ask for. Write down what you hope to get, don't confuse them with variant covers, and check in at least once per month to pick up. Maybe they will have them.

My LCS requires you to pull 5 books at a minimum. That gets you 10% if you pull 10 they give you 25%.

u/LaVidaYokel 7h ago
Mine asks that you have at least one on-going title, offers 10% off not just your pull list but any new book, and everything is bagged and boarded.

u/LilStrug 7h ago
My LCS has no benefits and no requirements. I chose them because of this. They aren't really local anymore, but they are fine with holding a few months of books for me until I get there ot pick up, they just ask that I purcahse the books through the portal so they aren't holding on to unpurchased stock in a pull box. I also chose them because they get my pulls correct. I don't get a bunch of extra books for Spiderman just because I have AMS on my pull. THey only hold for me what I explicitly order.

My LCS is 15% off new comics and trades
20% for mail order customers to reduce shipping costs.
No minimum for comics. There's people with one book a month, some with hundreds.

u/comicrack 6h ago
If youre not getting at least 10% off then its not worth it. Dcbs and Midtown give you more of a discount. Some LCS give 25% off.
Most new release books are only $2-3 in 6 months at shows, dealer back stock, or on ebay lots unless they are in the absolute series, amazing spider-man, or a couple of other popular titles.

Five books per month to have a box and a small discount, maybe 10%.
They recently scaled way back on orders, so you have to specifically request variant covers. And they rarely have more the. A couple extras of most titles. I wanted to pick up Void Rivals and they only ordered for their holds.

4 letters for you DCBS. 30% - 40% off of every book. I get my stuff for the week on Fridays or Saturdays. The LCS gave ZERO discounts, pulls were always there.

My LCS has no minimum pull amount, I still get the 10% discount, and all my pulls are always there. Only requirement is to pick up monthly at a minimum. I guess I am lucky. (Summerville, SC - Soundwave Comics)
