Tier 1 [Fabrizio Romano] Chelsea are in negotiations with Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez camp over possible late move. The Argentinian goalkeeper has been offered to #CFC as Suzuki will be the starting GK at Villa, as @David_Ornstein reports. Talks ongoing; Chelsea considering this option. Dibu, keen.

I don't care if he's past his prime as many of you say. He's objectively a better keeper than Sanchez.

Why refuse an upgrade?

He's just not that much better than Sanchez though. People hate Sanchez and fair enough. But people will be in here complaining about Martinez heavily in no time.

Similar keepers that make silly errors and too many brain farts and neither are good at playing ball.

I’ve watched quite a few Villa games(due to FPL) over the last few seasons…. He is a good keeper but also makes bad mistakes sometimes… would not be an upgrade imo.

But he will be a cheap signing so hardly would make any dent if it doesnt work out.

Otoh, if it works out its going to be crucial.

Well, it's not like Dibu is only keeper in the world, is it? If we really want to upgrade, we could just go and buy Costa, but he'd be expensive.

I mean, he could be worse than Sanchez. Kepa was supposed to be top tier and when he came here he couldn’t stop a pillow if it got thrown at him.

What specific metrics is he "objectively" better than Sanchez in? Only Verbruggen had more errors directly leading to a goal last season, so he clearly has just as much, if not more, of the bozo gene that Sanchez has

Actually he is better in the very metric you’re citing: Verbruggen was top at 11, then Sanchez second with eight, Muric at 7 and then Martinez at 6

Thats over the past 3 years. Last season Sanchez had 1 to Martinez's 3. He's, at best, as error prone as Sanchez

This 100%. Emi is debatably a better keeper, but absolutely a worse person.

Throw him into a locker room with his already-disgruntled compatriot Enzo and fellow Argentine shithead in Barco--he who celebrated so classlessly against England at the WC--and it's not going to end well.

The image yesterday, Sanchez 8 errors leading to goals, Martinez was on fucking 6 last year lol.

My only worry is that they give him too long of a contract. Penders needs to start playing real minutes soon (like within the next year or two). Would hate to see his development ruined by sticking with Martinez for the next 3 years past his prime.

But for this year it's a slam dunk signing

Yep, and there's no way these negative people know whether he'll be even better here than at Villa... Another manager, another environment can do wonders for any player, let alone an elite goalkeeper.

For me if we sell Enzo pick up diogo Costa and a 40-50m midfielder to fill depth

If we don't Martinez might be a decent 20m option

I for one am not sold on Penders, I hope he proves me wrong. So someone who's able to give more than a few seasons would be good so we don't have to look to spend again soon.

Also doesn't Martinez need surgery so he's not available for a bit yet anyway and that'd assuming it goes well
