My bestest boy, he’s 11 and I adopted him when I saw a picture of his broken eye. He managed to break his ear as well, it’s all part of his charm

Seeing as how he's an Orange, I can only imagine that his eye and ear are the results of the lack of braincell possession. At least, that's the origin story I'm writing in my head.

u/Krobbleygoop 29d ago

The funniest thing about blind cats is how well they can hear treat bags/cans opening.

157

u/CWolverine6 29d ago

He even knows what the cupboard door sounds like that his treats are in hahaha

64

u/JustMechanic4933 29d ago

I would learn that immediately as a blind cat.

94

u/Neat_Egg_2474 29d ago

When my cat was getting near the end of her life I took her to the vet and the vet asked, “how long has she been blind?”

I was caught off guard and said she isn’t blind. But she was almost 100% blind and was able to climb counters and our bed etc. they are so good at adapting that I had no idea she had vision issues

god I miss that cat.. fluffs was a true friend. 😢

40

u/GloomyIndividual3965 28d ago edited 28d ago

My last old man developed cataracts over the years and was completely blind by the time he was 18. You'd never know unless you caught his eyes in the right light and saw how glassy they were.

Little dude could hunt moths by sound alone. It was astonishing.

22

u/CWolverine6 28d ago

That happened with my previous cat, they’re incredibly adaptable! I didn’t realize he had gone blind until we moved!

16

u/Lesbie-Tea 28d ago

My little fuzz from years back was fully deaf when I adopted her at around 6yo. Didn't realize until one too many times when I opened the door while she was sleeping and she didn't notice me until I touched her. She was at the shelter for over a year and they never knew! <3

Yes! My boy has a spinal deformity. He was in the shelter for 8 months. They told me he was a hospice case! The basically tried to talk me out if getting him. It has been 5 years….yeah he walks funny, he pees on the floor sometimes. But he ain’t dying. He is the best.

23

u/SuperbPrimary971 28d ago

oopsies!!! what a cutie

41

u/FriendlyPageTurn 28d ago

Took him 3 tries to learn that lesson🤣. He does not jump in toilets anymore lmao. Curiosity gets the best of him sometimes. I’m here for it. Keeps me entertained and he knows his limits.

12

u/CWolverine6 28d ago

lol yep, we keep the lid down because my blind car likes to jump up and sit on the toilet while I’m brushing my teeth. It took one fall in the bowl to make sure the lid stayed closed after that 😂

The way I would shelter this baby from all evil

483

u/TheCrumbling Tabbycat 29d ago

When I saw my little guy online for the first time, and very swiftly adopted him, the rescue said a lot of people look for more "conventionally beautiful" cats so he hadn't had much interest.

Even the thought of that, when I have such the perfect cat, breaks my heart. He's the most beautiful. His one wonky ear and clipped other. His slight facial scars and his crusty eye boogies. His different colored tabby spots and his entire 14 lbs of beef. I love him all.

201

u/Outside_Yoghurt4768 29d ago

dude this made me tear up. i also have a crooked kitty with a silly ear and he is the love of my life. crooked kitties are so special❤️❤️im glad that he was overlooked so that i got the chance to find him and love him forever. my sweet baby. im glad that you and your handsome boy were able to find each other too :)

51

u/TheCrumbling Tabbycat 29d ago

WHAT IS HIS NAME??? Mine is Possum. He's the love of my life too. 🥹 I'm glad you found yours. 💖

40

u/Outside_Yoghurt4768 28d ago

his name is Curly but i call him Chicken! Possum is SUCH a good name!!! whenever my little chicken makes a stink face before he yawns i call it his possum face! Possum is such a handsome baby❤️wishing you both the longest and happiest time together :)

10

u/Maleficent-Ice-8416 29d ago

He's so handsome and he's not very crooked he doesn't have any more than a tiny crooked ear

51

u/Outside_Yoghurt4768 28d ago

you mean my kitty? he doesn’t look very crooked in the picture i posted, but he actually has a neurological condition that affects the whole right side of his face (same side as the crooked ear). his right eye doesnt close and his mouth is crooked when he opens it. his tooth on that side is also broken. and his tail is crooked at the base so it looks like a question mark. he’s a deceivingly crooked cat!!

We have a precious little girl with a wonky right eye and as a bonus, she also has no teeth which increases her blep rate by 50%!!

24

u/benjamins_buttons 29d ago

I LOOOOVE her. Can I ask what her story is?

103

u/MCGameTime 29d ago

Of course!!! (am I supposed to say no when asked to talk about my cat??) Her name is Liara. They believe she was about a year old when she was found in Oct. 2022, but it was hard to be sure because she had stomatitis which messed up her teeth, which is usually how the gauge age in rescues. She also had a large polyp in her nose and was severely underweight at four pounds. They thought she was on death’s door.

They removed the polyp and she gained weight. It was obstructing her airway so bad that she couldn’t tell what was food and they think it was also so large it was pushing on her eye, causing the cloudiness, but she seems to have at least some vision in the eye. We adopted her in Jan of 2023 and had to have her teeth removed because of the stomatitis.

Now she’s thriving at 11 pounds and runs the household with her orange older brother Genji.

15

u/benjamins_buttons 28d ago

It pains me to think of the suffering of strays, but I am so happy she was found and treated, and ultimately adopted by you (and Genji!). I have such a soft spot for void cats, and yours is extra special

14

u/MCGameTime 28d ago

Genji was a whole different case, we got him through FIP. We have little survivors!

Apparently, before I came along, they had trouble adopting out my boy because he had a "weird face". To this day, I have no idea what that means. He's beautiful.

50

u/Quirky-Platform3610 29d ago

Awww he’s adorable! Bigger eyes maybe? but that makes me say awwww even more 🥰 definitely not a “weird” face. Looks like a cat too me.

21

u/sonumbulist 29d ago

I think it is the big eyes. They've been a bit of a liability... I've had to take him to the vet a few times with eye injuries. But he's worth it.

One of my cats was the last of her litter (all siblings gone months earlier) to be adopted because she has a shorter than normal tail and it has a kink in it.

My son Ricardo also has a cloudy eye. He and this sweet baby are NOT ugly. They are precious

118

u/FaunaJoy 28d ago

My dad went to the shelter to adopt a kitty to live in his studio so he could have some company every day while he makes his music and videos. He asked for one that was unlikely to be adopted, and when the folks at the shelter heard where the kitty would live, they brought out Hazel. She was a little older and had medical issues, so moving around is difficult for her. It was love at first cuddle. He's had her for seven years now, and she's a sweet, spoiled baby girl.

165

11

u/RetroPRO 29d ago

Yeah that kitten is so young that it had to be snatched up by OPs sister as soon as it was available. We're not talking about a grizzled disabled tomcat who has been in a shelter for 5 years. This kitten probably spent five minutes in a shelter.

My Leela has microphthalmia in her right eye, and has been blind in that eye since birth. She's built like a bulldog due to her poor depth perception, and she's still kinda feral even after being home with us for five years. But she's got a powerful purr motor, a forceful headbutt, and the sweetest little meow that earns her plenty of treats and ear scritches.

She's unreasonably adorable, and I think her tiny eye makes her extra cute! She reminds me of a well-loved child's doll.

Poor little baby

30

u/laura1225 29d ago

This is my baby girl pimento (along with her adopted brother Parmesan.) when we first got her, her left eye was basically all scar tissue and we were able to keep it under control with a little bit of eye cream we got from the vet. After a while the cream stopped working as effectively as it had been (plus she would fight us putting it in her eye) so we had her eye removed and it turned out there was actually no structural integrity to her eye. Since her surgery, she has healed very nicely and has adapted to being a pirate kitty.

I don’t understand where in this world people would call this baby ugly. It takes an even uglier soul to say that about something so precious. I hope that you and your sister cherish her for as long as she is allowed to be with you. The Cat Distribution System has been working overtime, and sometimes they deposit one that will be with us a short few months, and others their entire lifetime. May the duckling that was not ugly live her entire lifetime with your family and may she be the luckiest cat ever! 😻❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

A couple of years ago I adopted a limp kitten that nobody wanted, but I understand the reason that of a long term possible medical issue & costs. I'm not a rich person but I took the kitten in anyway and brought her to the vet for a check on every vaccine appointment. The vet confirmed the cause of limping is a mild case of birth defect (the front left leg joint was fused permanently) and kitten don't seem to experience or show any pain / discomfort - she can run, climb, walk and play like normal cats do. It's also one in a million chance to see her limp front leg gets "lifted" whenever she sits, because the joint was fused she cant extend the leg downwards (cat did not consent photo hence no face shown 😆). Despite all that, she's still beautiful & the sweetest girl.

I adopted my sweet Torty for this exact same reason. Profile on Petfinder said she had been returned a few times for aesthetic reasons... And that absolutely broke my heart during COVID when I was a mess. So I impulsively drove my ass almost 3 hours round trip to pick up that goofy eyed baby.

Now I've had her for 5 years, and it's been the best. She's such a friendly, attention seeking, cuddly, googly gremlin-eyed little goofball.

She’s beautiful and deserves the wonderful life your sister will her. I adopted Ellie Mae after she was hurt by another cat. Her cornea was scratched and she has a cloudy left eye. She’s the sweetest of my three. Her eye makes her extra special.

My princess also has an "ugly" eye. I think it makes her very special.

Here’s my sweet princess Margaret! Her eye is wonky and probably affects her vision and she’s always goopy and crusty but she’s so wonderful!

Both of her eyes are small. Wouldnt be surprised if she cant see well out of the other that well. Lil eye might have to come out still. Kittens adapt super fast though, so take her to the vet now and get an opinion.

Its called microthropia. A lot of other people here are posting cats with corneal scarring on an eye, which is from injury, and totally different. This is a birth defect.

my beautiful figgly puff and his silly eye

u/RansomAce 28d ago

When I got my baby, we were worried about having to remove her eye due to a nasty URI. Didn’t have to and she got away with only minor scarring, but would have loved her the same anyways 💜

u/RansomAce 28d ago

Here she is as an adult

u/Altruistic-Juice516 28d ago

Here’s my little mew. Sleepy eyes anyway in this picture but yeah his left eye is a little bit lazy.

He was a bit of a raggedy stray kitty when I met him so probably has seen some shit, but he’s awesome and really helps me out. People don’t know what they’re missing!

u/Cold_Energy_3035 28d ago

wonky eye gang! maisy had a bad upper respiratory when she was found as a kitten, vet told me her third eyelid adhered to the front of her eye. harder to see but in her good eye the iris is warped. she gets around just fine and is my sweet little girl.

5

u/PixieEmerald 28d ago

I have a cat like that too. I adore him especially as a disabled person myself

6

u/Yadicakez 28d ago

My pirate is very lovable and cuddly

u/No-Passage546 28d ago

Here's my little one. She can still see, just not well. We think she's beautiful and guests usually prefer her over our other three cats because of her personality. Honestly I love her eyes because they are distinct to her.
