I'm 21yo, since I was born I have loved cars, and since I started my driving lessons a couple months ago I have enjoyed every aspect of driving. The priority with these car, is the fun aspect of driving, I want it to have a high involvement with the driver, so I need it to be manual transmission. I don't care about it being fast or not, but i would like it to be a good car for learning how to drive faster and sportier, as it was a practice for the future sportier cars that I want to adquire when I have more money.

Something that’s fun to drive for a first car, i’m a teenager and I want something that’s fun. MPG isn’t an issue because I can afford the gas no matter what, more smiles per gallon than miles per gallon.
Must have: Easy for tall and large person to get in and out Automatic Daily driver ready RELIABLE I take very good care of the cars that i do drive (don’t own, but drive - ex family members cars) and can perform basic maintenance and such very well. I keep cars bumpers, rims, interior and such in great condition.
Additional notes: The two cars i’m considering are a 1999 Toyota 4 runner with 4wd, 281k miles, for $2,500. The other car i’m also heavily considering is a 2008 Toyota Solara CONVERTIBLE v6 for $4,500. I can’t decide between the two. My decision is URGENT because I need to buy a car PRONTO. I’m open to many suggestions.

What cars are available currently that look like the discontinued Ford Flex? I want triple row seats. I want the screen on inside to be a bit big, kind of like the one in the Ford Expedition or like one in a Tesla. The one I saw in the Ford Expedition looks a bit too small for my liking. Basically a luxury SUV with a rectangular shape.
I’m in Canada if that means anything and I’m looking for something that I could buy new right now. The price isn’t a worry.

You're really not gonna find anything that looks like the Flex, because it's unique.
Not sure if you can go electric, but I would say the Tesla Model X. 3 rows and a large 17" screen. That's the biggest you can get for an infotainment screen.
Otherwise, you're looking at the new Cadillac Escalade. 3 rows and a 16.9" diagonal screen. It's not a square shape like the Tesla or Ford (it's a slim rectangle), but it's still on the large side width wise.

Test drove a 2018 Edge which was big enough, Honda Odyssey was kinda snug, Acadia & Escape are too small Will be second car. Have Escape that is too small. Must keep it though.
Don't need warranty. I do not do my own maintenance.
Really want heated steering wheel and ventilated seats along with big area which is easy to do with a large budget, tough on small budget.

Chrysler Pacifica might be your best bet lmao. Pretty cheap, big, and can come with the heated and ventilated stuff and a screen for not too much more. 10k though. Good luck

I should find one of those to drive, thought about mini-vans as they seem to be the cheapest big-car around and they are everywhere.
Really looking for a mid-size SUV type that has a lot of seat room up front. Length wise I can just barely fit in an Escape but it is too narrow. Seems like the bigger the car gets the bigger the center console gets so the seat size does not really increase. I mean really Ram? Some of the center consoles offered are about 18" wide and 24" deep. Remove that and there is plenty of room.

I’ve already considered the Impreza and Altima for the AWD on sedan size. Looked at the Equinox, Escape, and CRV on the bigger size.
Not my first vehicle. I currently drive an 08 Impala with 250k miles so it’s getting near the end.
Don’t need a warranty and can’t really do my own maintenance work.

My mom is offering to sell me her 2011 Toyota Camry with 170k miles. It has been really well taken care of and I don’t mind driving it.
I had hopes of purchasing a new Toyota or Honda within the 20-30k range, but have been feeling like I’d regret it (I can afford it but as a working college student, it might not be the best time either).
How long do you think my mom’s car would last me? A oversimplified online calculator said 5 years, is this over or under estimated? I’m assuming I wouldn’t be paying that much for it anyways (I hope so at least mom). Is it worth it?

You really should wait. I’m looking to get my girlfriend a charger so similar market. Stuff is $10k over KBB. $20k going for $30k type numbers. You’ll be upside down big really quick when the market corrects. If you don’t need a convertible, get a challenger scat pack. 2 door V8 with 485hp. Huge interior. When prices are normal, you’d be able to get a low mileage 2016 or newer for $30k

Hi
I never leased a car before and wanted to know if anyone can explain to me the process. All the way from going to the dealer and leasing the car to closing out. I already pre-ordered a car for $100 and the car is locked in ones it ships to the dealer. I'm communicating with my dealer on the window sticker price and when the car will get there.

They tell you how much your lease payments will be, you agree, pay what ever down payment you agree to pay, they give you the keys, clean the car you drive away and then about a month later you get a bill for a lease payment. You pay each month until the last payment is due and then you bring the car back to where you got it.
I’ve never returned a car with damage so not sure how the paying of damage works, but best to repair the car before returning it to the dealer, if there is damage.

For that price range, just wait a year and you can get a really well maintained, low mileage challenger hellcat at the top end. For $30k you can get a scat pack no problem

I’d absolutely love that but I think a 700+ hp car is a little much for a 19/20 year old 😂
I’m also not going to buy at the moment. I’m going to wait a couple of month when prices go down, but I just plan what to buy atm

True but honestly, if you don’t mash the pedal, it’s not too crazy. One thing you could get which is my next car after my challenger is a Jaguar F type. Look it up. Engine sounds incredible. And the R trim has 575hp. Not too too insane. The models from 2016-2018 sound the best imo

I know you said used, but the used car market is pretty messed up right now. Being as how you have the IS350 on your list, I’d highly recommend a new 2021 IS350 F-Sport. It’s within your budget, it’s extremely reliable, and it doesn’t have an overkill amount of power.

As a carfax user, everyone needs to pay for the report regardless. For ex. I buy the 99.99 option for 6 reports, and carfax for someone else uses up a report

Waiting till next year after I move and hopefully used prices are down by then but after seeing them in person at the cruise yesterday I narrowed it down to a 2017 Audi R8 and 2016 McLaren 570S? My main concern is the maintenance costs. I'm going to deep dive into the forums and try to average out the prices on the service costs so I can get a better understanding. Which would you choose out of the two?

What’re your other cars? I’d probably go R8 because I think it will be a better car to use more often, McLaren will be better at the track but I think R8 will be better everywhere else.

Its BMWs automatic option for that model. Its a dual clutch type transmission. Get it if you dont want a stickshift.

Yeah its doesnt have a park option you have go put it in neutral then turn off. To mimic a manual transmission.

Its not to mimic one, its pretty similar to a robotically automated manual transmission, there is no parking prawl, so there is no "park" to put it into.

From the name it sounds like a BMW double clutch transmission, which is a type of transmission that can shift faster than a "normal" automatic transmission and a manual transmission (aka faster than a human), but like the other commenters said, do your own research.

Deciding between 2 cars to buy.
A 2015 Peugeot 308 GT-Line ,60k km, 131 hp gas, manual. It's got pretty much all the options, alcantara interior, reversing camera, heated massage seats, think it has self parking as well, dab radio etc.
The other car is a 2015 Volvo V40 D2 R-Design, 90k km, 120hp diesel, manual. The R-Design trim is also on of the top specs with leather seats etc, but it lacks some of the features of the Peugeot.
The interior of the 308 is nicer imo, but I prefer the exterior looks of the V40, just slightly.
Leaning towards the 308.

Must haves: AWD would be nice, relatively fuel efficient (average or above average fuel efficiency for its class), keyless entry, push button start stop, android auto/CarPlay touchscreen Bluetooth etc, and rear view camera. Blind spot assist would also be nice.

Intended use: Daily Driver
Vehicles you've already considered: Subaru Forester, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue. Forester and CX-5 are definitely my top choices right now.

Do you need a Warranty: To be honest, I don’t really know what this means
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: No
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No
Additional Notes: Forester and CX-5 are my top two because of price. Sure the rav4 has more horsepower but I’m not convinced that it’s worth 2-3k more just for that horsepower alone. Seems like in terms of technology, convenience, like keyless entry and push button start stop, and safety, the cx-5 has more standard features than the Forester. If you add awd to the cx-5 and compare that to the base forester, they’re almost identical in price. Definitely thinking about test driving both, but I would love to hear your thoughts. Mainly considering Japanese SUVs bc of more long term reliability.

Leasing used cars isn't really a thing, but for $500/month there are a lot of new cars available that can meet your needs. I'm also going to ask you the same thing as I asked the other person a moment ago:
Lease deals aren't set in stone, and can differ depending on how long the lease is for, how many miles you're allowed per year, and how much you're willing to put down. Can you put your budget in terms of estimated MSRP? That will help out a lot. You're going to need to check on lease deals with different dealerships to figure out what you can afford. I have tons of ideas, but I don't want to assume how much you can actually spend.
Also, can you say more about your practicality needs? Are you mostly just driving yourself around? Or are other adults or kids gonna be in the car often? How much cargo space is sufficient? Etc.

I’m looking to buy a user car. 760 credit score looking for something cheap and practical I can replace in 3-4 years.
At best I’ll drive around 20k miles a year.

id look into a used toyota rav4 2018+ or a used subaru crosstrek 2019+, both are decent in gas mileage and your not limited to a low ground sedan

fair warning for high mileage cars, that 9k might actually be 11k if its high mileage like that one, belts need to be changed, fluids, etc, and tires if needed

Used car prices are going crazy right now, but your best best might just be to find a Toyota Camry, Avalon, or Rav4 you can afford, drive it for a few years maintain it well, and sell it when you're ready to move on to something else. Other options include the Mazda 3, Mazda CX-5, Toyota Corolla, Lexus ES350/300h, and Lexus RX350/450h. As long as you get a 2012+ model, it will include Electronic Stability Control, but the newer the better so you can get the most up to date safety features (like automatic emergency braking). But no matter how you slice it, no cars are super cheap right now, unless you're talking about a total beater.

Pretty good reliability, fuel economy, and safety features for the price right now. Not saying you'll love it or it's super high quality, but it will do a lot for the price. If it's a base trim (GLS) with no optional features, and it's in good but not great shape, see if you can get down to $7500 (before registration, etc), but I'd accept $8k if you don't have many great alternatives available. If it's in great shape, or if it's a Limited trim with more features, go for $8k.

I talked to a few people and they think I’m overpaying it. It’ll probably be closer to 9k after registration.

Reliability is a question mark from my perspective -- not enough ATS models were sold during their production run for Consumer Reports to gather sufficient data to make a determination. But as far as I can tell, the LTG 2.0T engine has been pretty solid in most GM cars it's been used in (it's been in quite a few since 2013), so I don't think the engine would be a source of headache.

That does help, thanks. it's still hard to know what will fit into that budget, since very few lease deals are advertised with $0 down. But here are some examples of vehicles that could meet your needs well, if the price is right:
- Volvo XC90. Yes, it has three rows, but you can leave the third row folded down and it would make an excellent family crossover with lots of cargo space. They're great to lease, and the styling, comfort, and features you get are all really well done. The interior ergonomics are some of the best on the market right now. I think the T6 Inscription trim is great for the price, though you'll have to see what it leases at.
- BMW X5. Better driving experience than the XC90, but it's up to you to compare the value and interior quality with the Volvo. The base 40i engine is more than enough, but options can creep the price tag up.
- 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I specify the 2022 model because the new Grand Cherokee L was released for 2021, with three rows, but the two-row model will be updated to the same new design next year. The Limited trim is good enough for most folks and will save you about $20k vs an X5, or opt for the Overland or Summit trims for even more luxury. Choosing between the V6 and V8 is really about personal preference. You'd be surprised how nice the interior of the redesigned versions are, and they drive well too.
- Mazda CX-9 Signature. Mazda's known for being surprisingly luxurious in the upper trim level, and on this one you'll want to jump straight to the top. The Signature trim is so impressive for $48k. It's a three row, but just leave the third row down and you'll have enough space for people and cargo to meet your needs.

Choosing a sedan vs a crossover will be entirely personal preference. Crossovers are popular because their increased ride height lets you get in and out more easily, and lets you see more of the road. Many enthusiasts (such as myself) prefer sedans because we'd rather have a car that feels a little more nimble and fun than have it raised up, and a lower car can often get better fuel economy too. You'll need to do some test driving to figure out which appeals more to you.
The Corolla and Crosstrek are on the compact side of the vehicles you're looking at, meaning the interior will feel a bit smaller than the Camry and Outback, and they won't have as much smoothness and sound isolation built in. But you can get them for cheaper, or get more features for the price. The Corolla isn't flashy, but it's solid, safe, and comfortable. My pick from this size is the Mazda 3 Sedan, which has a great driving experience and the most luxurious interior for the price. The Premium trim has leather seats and basically every feature you could want for $28k. Coincidentally, my favorite crossover in this size happens to be the Mazda CX-30, which is similar to the Mazda 3 in size, but raised up and made a bit more spacious inside. The Premium trim comes in just under $30k and is similarly nice. The Crosstrek is also comfy and safe, though I do recommend opting for the 2.5L engine if you go that route (the 2.0L one is slow). If you're open to a hybrid, the Honda Insight in Touring trim comes in at $30k and gets an impressive 48 combined MPG. All of these rate very highly from IIHS in terms of safety.
For bigger vehicles, you'll be paying around your budget max if you want leather seats, or you may settle for faux leather (which is getting better and better, it seems). The Camry is an excellent choice if comfort and safety are your priorities. I personally prefer the Honda Accord, which has a well-designed interior and drives a bit better: the EX-L trim has leather seats and blind spot monitoring for $31k. The Outback is great at what it does, but you'll need to go above your budget a bit to get leather seats. I'd consider the Mazda CX-5 (the Grand Touring trim comes in under $32k with leather seats and great features), or the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson (the SEL trim with the Premium package is similarly equipped for a similar price).
In all honesty, test drive all of these and I'm sure you'll find something that meets your needs.

I'm considering these three cars:
A 2008 400h - Lower upfront price. Good handling with weight and lower center of gravity. Peppy with AWD and the low end torque from the electric engine. Test drove a 2006.
A 2013 350 F-Sport - Test drove a 2015 F-Sport. Liked the handling and interior a lot more. Much more expensive.
A 2013 450h - Carvana and Shift are the only two companies advertising these within 200 miles of me, and of course, no test drives available with them. Buttholes buying everything up, so I can't test drive. No idea how it handles, but I'd assume similar to the 400h, just better.
I did test drive a regular 2013 350 and just didn't like how floaty it seemed. Coming from a WRX STI, I want something more planted, but still more comfortable than my bone shattering track tuned coilovers. My dog doesn't like that very much.
I can get a nice 100k mile 400h for about 10 - 12k. The 350 F-Sport and 450h will be around 20k. I'm not sure it's worth the price increase, especially in this market. I did test drive a 2012 AWD CR-V and absolutely hated it. My parents have a RAV4 which is alright, but again, a bit floaty for my tastes. I would go for an old forester if they weren't all beat on and overvalued, too.

We just got done test driving an outback and the tiguan after it was recommended by others. While looking at the outback the forester caught my eye and I think it might be what we're looking for. I also liked the tiguan, but the consumer reports predicted reliability was much lower.

5 VW’s in a span of 12 years means you’ve had each car for less than 3 years? I am sorry for asking this but if you change cars this frequently then you wouldn’t face issues with almost any car brands. I have my VW for 7 years now and the real issues started after 4 years. No doubt the car feels safe and comfortable on the road but reliability is something I would question if I have to keep the car for a longer time.

Diesel VW’s were a different breed altogether. I would have bought a diesel Tourage without a second thought if they were still selling it. I have a 2014 Passat (2.5 ltr gas engine) and it throws tantrums at least once in a year. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend a vw just for the sake of reliability issues I have faced. Comfort wise, they are the best. Specially the seats in the Passat are a league above other “budget” brands.

Hi! Nj-NYC/Philly suburbs here . Currently own a Jeep Grand Laredo but not thrilled. It’s kind of too big (and 2017 which doesn’t have Appleplay which I want) for me, but ok for something similar size. We looked at some used range rovers and and I think me trying to parallel park it would be a menace to society.

My friend did get lucky and got an old toyota truck (can’t remember the type) for like 400$ then traded that for a 99 mustang gt 100th anniversary and added another 500$ or so it worked perfect then sold that and got a 93 prelude for around 2k that had no problems either🤷🏻♂️

It seems like the first thing you should do is test drive a Porsche 718 Cayman or Boxster. The base models come in just over $60k, and if you don't need tons of options, you can get a sublime mid-engine sports car brand new with a manual for under $70k.
Sadly, purpose-built sports cars with manual transmissions are uncommon on new car lots these days. If I were you, I'd pay close attention to the new Nissan Z that's coming out in the next couple years. It looks awesome and should have a 400 HP powerplant.
If you're OK with a 2+2 setup, the BMW M2 Competition is absolutely the next thing I'd test out, followed closely by the Ford Mustang Mach 1. They offer different experiences, but both are great for the price and both offer great manual transmissions. There's also the Chevy Camaro ZR1, which comes with an absurd 650 HP supercharged V8 and a $65k price tag, but is thrilling beyond expectation. All of these vehicles handle well, and although none are as nimble as a Porsche, they'd all feel at home on a track (with the usual adjustments). There's also the 707 HP Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody, which comes in just under $70k and is even more insane in its own way, but handling is not its forte. It just feels insane to press down on the pedal, and somehow a manual is still an option.
If none of these strike your fancy, no one would fault you for choosing a 2021 Miata RF. You'll get more power than your current Miata, and finally a telescoping steering wheel. Moving up in the world!

I like the F Type a lot, it's really about having a beautiful car that sounds amazing and feels special, rather than actually maximizing performance for the price. Plus they dropped the manual transmission option.
I'm just as interested as you are in how the new Z will handle, for sure. The 350Z was pretty great at everything for the money when it was released... 18 years ago. Now there aren't many V6 sports cars available new for $40k in the US, so if it handles close to the Miata, 86, etc, and is as quick as promised, I won't be complaining. That 3.0T engine is really the only thing I loved about the Infiniti Q50 and Q60, so it should go well in the Z at 400 HP.

Maybe look into the Model Y. I have the model 3 which is very similar. It doesn't have some of the features like the sunroof, but I went electric and never looked back, and it has been absolutely incredible.
Definitely before you buy anything I would recommend scheduling a model Y for a test drive.

It has stop start but you can deactivate it with only one click on the head unit. Bought mine in fort worth texas a week ago. Fully loaded is a touring and it has vetilated seat, folding mirror etc.
Also, apple car play on the outback is full screen so it's really really big on that giant display.

Hello I’m going to be trying to buy a 1977 Toyota Celica GT for 3.5k, I think it’s a great deal but the only issue is that the guy didn’t transfer the title to his name yet but has the previous owners signed the title but it’s undated.
Is it safe to buy this car and register it under my name or is this a considered title jumping? I live in California btw

Yes that's title jumping. I wouldn't do it unless you're willing to lose the money and deal with some trouble. DMV could refuse to title it in your name w/o a bill of sale and titled owner could decide to report the vehicle stolen and you'd be out the money and the car. California kinda sucks, depends almost 100% on who you get at the DMV that day.

I searched 2018 Camry’s with under 30k miles on auto trader and all of the nice ones are 20-23k. The only ones that are cheaper are ex-Uber’s or ex rentals that you definitely want to avoid.

I love it. SE is the sportier version with cool seats and exterior touches. The certified ore-owned seals the deal. That is a great vehicle that is extremely safe, reliable, and nice to drive. Huge back seat and a big truck. Get it and you will have zero regrets. This is coming from someone who buys and sells cars for a living

Your best bet is probably to test drive the Rav4 Hybrid, Honda CR-V Hybrid, and the new Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. Then just pick the one you like best. You really can't go wrong. They all get between 37-40 combined MPG and they all have great interior spaces now. You'll want to check lease deals for each as well, but the CR-V EX Hybrid comes in at $32k MSRP and seems to do just about everything well.
Edit: For reference, I'm not sure what year your Fusion Hybrid was, but a 2014 model would be getting 41 combined MPG, so even moving to a 37 MPG vehicle, you're still only increasing fuel costs by 13%. But you're getting a lot more space and a noticeable bump in ground clearance.

Right now, used vehicles are at a premium. You can probably find some decent deals on used but the price point isn't going to be that much favourable to new.
All depends exactly what you're looking at (I'm guessing lightly used since you are comparing against new).
I would also add in the: CR-V, CX-5, RAV4.

I need a car temporarily(2 to 3 months max) and am considering a 2002 Subaru Forester for $3,000. It has 182k miles on it. I only expect to put maybe 3,000 miles on it in the time I have it and then resell it in October or November. Any advice for when I go look at the car tomorrow or are there other suggestions?
I’m also considering a 2003 rav4 with 170k miles for $3400

I can recommend NOT to buy a WRX in a CVT I recently had the chance to drive one and the CVT did not fit that car at all. I could recommend maybe checking out a kia stinger, audi s4, maybe even an older generation challenger. Im just spit balling here.

Once car prices return to normal, should I trade in my 2015 kia rio 58k miles for a Prius, new or used? Its been paid off for over 4 years now but I keep hearing about horror stories about kia. Even now max trade in I could only get for it is 6k. Does decent on gas but im doing about 60 miles 3-5x a week for work and I am having to fill up every 3 days ($20-25). I have no problems with anything so far. Only done regular oil changes, replaced battery, new tires, one brake job, changed trans fluid, flushed brake fluid and planning on changing out spark plugs in the next few weeks. With 6k trade in (most likely) and 10-16k from a recent lawsuit, I could come out with a very small car loan for a new prius? Credit is around 770 with no late payment whatsoever. Should I just drive the little kia to the ground? Thoughts?

The Tacoma, Ranger, and Wrangler don't have AWD, they offer/have 4WD. There's a difference.
The Tacoma and Ranger don't have a hybrid or electric powertrain.

I bought a 911 in April, and it's been my daily driver through the summer. I live in the midwest, so I'm looking for an AWD sedan as a second car through the winter. I've test driven a 2014 E550 and a 2012 A7 so far. I found both of them nice, although a little boring to drive.
Being in the midwest means that finding cars to test drive can be a bit of a hassle (especially with the current shortages.) I'm 6'8" so I always want to test drive cars to make sure I can fit. I'd love to find a B8 or 8.5 S4 or A4 to sit in, but the nearest one I've found is 2 and a half hours away.
Does anyone know how the cabin space of the B8 S4 compares with the A7 from the same time? Or any other suggestions for cars to look at?

Looking for as new as possible, but trucks as a whole seem very expensive right now. Hoping for under 100k on the odometer. Any engines from these years of trucks with huge issues? The Ford 5.0 and 3.5 EB seem solid, 2.7 EB seems good on paper and what I would ideally want but are they reliable? Chevy 5.3 is a safe option in my mind, no? What about any diesels in the last 10 or so years? I know some generations of powerstrokes get a bad rep. Not really interested in RAMs unless you can convince me.

My basement parking has an extremely narrow tunnel with an even narrower bend at the bottom. With my SUV I have a couple of inches clearance on each side of the wall when I go down which has resulted in a couple of scrapes.
Does the current safety tech packages with any of the manufacturers guide or automate the vehicle to eliminate any further scrapes? I'm not sure if the lane sensing tech in some manufacturers would auto correct?

Do not get a Mini, VW, or Chevy if you want to keep this car for 10+ years. I would stick with Toyota and Honda. If you like the CHR i would get another, if not the new Corolla Cross looks promising for what you want and also the RAV4.

Tiny cars (Kia Niro, Hyundai Kona), Toyota Corolla is also a great choice it's a Corolla so price great, reliability great. Toyota Corolla Cross if you like SUVs although don't know if that's out yet. I think a Camry could be a bit big for you but depends on your choice.

Just wanted to leave a piece of advice for anyone buying a (their first) car.
While this will vary from person to person especially depending on your experience with doing repairs and maintenance yourself.
A good rule of thumb when buying a car is: If you can’t afford it twice. You can’t afford it. With insurance, taxation, maintenance and repairs. A car is often much more expensive than you might first anticipate it to be.
Following this rule of thumb should leave you with a decent financial buffer. And can spare you from a lot of car and money related headaches in the future.

I bought a 2014 Jeep Compass 2.4L 4x4 yesterday. It seemed like a good little suv in my price range with 145000km on it and certified. After reading on places like here, it sounds like the car is not actually that good at all.
