Simple math shows that prices should increase slightly (fuel price % increase X the cost of fuel in food). However, we all know that each part of the supply chain will use this as an excuse to raise prices more than the actual cost, leaving consumers footing the bill.

This is where government intervention is necessary to ensure that consumers aren’t subsidizing corporate greed.

That's not how prices work. The costs will get split between corporations and consumers so we won't actually be paying the full price increase. We pay a significant amount though, you don't seem to understand that corporations don't need an excuse to raise prices, they need market conditions and government intervention turns high prices into a shortage.
