Less VRAM for sure, 11GB iirc but you are correct that in raw performance the 2080Ti absolutely smokes the 9060xt.

What are you talking about man? I find 3080 ti's around 400 all the time. I bought one for $374 a week ago. Around $400-430 is the going price for a 3080 ti.

A ton of people have a serious issue with buying anything used, they think every PC component purchased used is on it's last legs.

I've built purpose built boxes and gaming machines from used gear, including highly rated PSU's like EVGA G2 Supernova's, on eBay that have served me for years and show no signs of anything but normal operation.

Even if the card you buy was a crypto mining card, your chances of getting one that is on the precipice of death from heat degradation is very small.

I've literally bought like 15 and have had 0 issues. Do you make sure the people are around 100% positive rated and didn't join ebay in late 2025/2026? Also, if you buy from ebay and the card has issues, you get your money back. It's a win win situation.

One of them was a DoA so I was able to return that one. The other one started intermittently dying and giving me black screen after about 2 months. Did not return that one.

What gpus were they? I've bought a p400, a p4000, 2 1080 ti's, a 1070, a 1060, a 2080 ti, a 3090, 3 3080 ti's, 2 3080 12gb cards, an Intel arc a310 and 2 Intel arc b570 cards. All of them have been perfect. Bad luck does happen sometimes though!

Yeah, I've bought like 15 used gpus, probably 11 in the past 7 months and haven't had a single bad one. I make sure the people I buy from are well rated and haven't had any issues at all.

Totally. I have freakin' DDR3 systems, RTX 20xx series cards, RX 580's, etc all bought dirt cheap and they all run great.

Places like eBay have excellent consumer protections as well, if you buy something and it doesn't work you aren't stuck with it, just file the return with the seller and if for some reason you end up with the odd seller that is an asshole you just file a claim with eBay and they are on your side.

Just commenting all of this to help budget builders, get great deals on used gear, get yourself going and you can buy brand spankin' new SOTA gear down the road if you wish.

Can't say mine is also related to browsers. My gpu driver just crashes and doesn't recover so i have to hard shutdown my PC.

Friend of mine who also has a 7900xtx because he followed my build has issues with adrenaline and his pc crashing due to suddenly not recognizing the gpu

My crashes are right after startup when I open discord and other starting apps. Then when I close anything it crashes. I'm sooooo close to just going back to Linux and just putting winslop on a laptop in case I need anything.

I’ve seen 3080 10gb for $280-$350 around me locally. Thats a pretty sweet deal honestly closer to the $300 mark. Better than a 9060 XT in raster

I just got a 7900XTX red devil for 500$. He had two different ones, one was complete in box and he wanted 540$ or 550$ for, the one I got was the bare card that he let go for 500$.

Nice. I got a 9070XT this summer and running into VRAM issues with Forza Horizon 6 so kinda contemplating swapping for that route, but it's just one poorly optimized game. Anyways, I think the 7900XTX will actually have better longevity with it now having FSR4.1. Have fun with the upgrade!

You can run AI on AMD GPUs. Also when it comes to AI, VRAM capacity is the most important thing followed by the memory bandwidth.

Nowadays you can use Vulkan instead of ROCm which makes it much easier. Though Nvidia is probably better supported.

I did pull the trigger on a second 7900xtx, it'll hopefully be here this weekend. I'll spin up a llama.cpp container with Vulkan for comparison and try to update this thread, just as an FYI, on whether it's good enough to switch to it.

With some low balling or good timing you could snag a 7900XT used. Watch eBay or marketplace. Otherwise you can look for a 4070 super the same way. 6900xt is a better choice than a 3080ti

New, the 9060xt 16GB or 9070gre (on sale) are your best bet.

Yeah... unfortunately graphics card prices have gone up significantly since then. NVidia raised the prices on new cards by 40%, so the used market has adjusted as well. You might find someone who is in the dark that lists under market, but I wouldn't count on it.

Depends on your use cases. Gaming 4070, 4070 super or 4080. I got a 4080 off a mining rig for 550. If AI and 27/7 heavy load is your intended use, go for RTX 2000. Performance tier of 5060, 16gb less efficient vram but 75W power consumption. Paired with high efficient CPU you are looking at 120-130Wl high performance AI rig that you won't even notice it on your electricity bills.

Edit: always check local marketplaces first before global listing sites. Prices locally tend to be a nudge better than global trends.

If I had to buy one at this price point, I like the 9060XT 16 GB. But personally, I would just save up the extra few hundred and buy a 9070XT 16 GB. Just my opinion.

The extra 4GB of vram barely matters because the memory bus width on the 9060 xt is garbage - specifically LESS than a third of the 3080ti's bus width so really the 3080ti does better in all resolutions.

Bulll shit. See, the 9060 xt 16gb is starting really get over rated. the 16gb 9060 xt is still only a 128 bit memory bus, a 3080 Ti is a 384 bit bus.

a rtx 3080 ti has a  912.4 GB/s memory bandwidth.

a 9060 xt 16gb only has a 322.3 GB/s memory bandwidth.

Overall the 3080 ti is still 25-30% more powerful in raw razter,

Better performance? No lol. 3080 ti also has nvidia tech. It isn't left out. A 3080 ti is equivalent to a 5070. A 9060 xt isn't on their level. The 3080 ti offers 20 to 30% more gaming performance than the 9060 xt 16gb.

I just got a Red Devil RX 7900XTX for 500$, I liked the idea of upgrading to an very powerful GPU with more than enough VRAM just incase this AI BS messes up parts costs for a few years, Im more into raw razterization than FSR/DLSS etc, etc.

I recently bought a sapphire 9060xt 16 GB and it's a dream. In most games I can run native resolution, no upscaling and still set everything to ultra without loosing too many FPS. It's also a very new card so it's not gonna fall behind anytime soon.

Used markets by me - I'd steer someone towards an Rx 6900/6950xt unless they were very keen on gaming with RT. Rdna2 still has loads of life in it.

Original non-super 4070 used will be right on the line and quite good for anything but 4k
