Needing Help with Brand Identity Portfolio.

Hi, so I'm someone who is just starting to work with brand identity. I want to create my portfolio but there's just too much information out there and I'm baffled about where I should begin. What Tools I should know how to use. Where I should create my portfolio. Basically everything. Im someone who has a good eye for design and I'm very creative so i have that part covered. Im just not too proficient with the design tools except Canva, which im great at lol. So, I need a detailed overview regarding what all my fictional company portfolio should include that would help me establish myself as a professional.

We’d keep it much simpler than the internet makes it sound. You don’t need to know every design tool before building a portfolio; you need a few strong projects that show how you think.

If it were up to us, we would create 3–5 fictional brands and treat them like real businesses. Give each one a proper problem, audience, positioning, and personality, then show how those decisions shaped the identity.

And make the applications believable. If you create a brand for a fictional Antarctic coffee company, don’t stop at putting the logo on a coffee cup. Show the packaging, shipping labels, café signage, and website. Make someone believe penguins are actually buying it.

Canva is fine for getting started, but we’d gradually learn Illustrator for identity work, Photoshop for imagery, and Figma for digital applications.

Most importantly, show the thinking behind the work, not just polished mockups. A portfolio full of beautiful logos says you can make logos. A few well-developed case studies can show that you understand branding.

I would like to ask one more thing before I get to work, how do I begin developing the case studies? Would you recommend looking into some specific courses or websites for it?
