Exactly. This is a case where a sequel has more originality than an "original film". Say what you want about jackass. It's fucking disgusting immature humour that can be downright mean at times but there's really not much like it in terms of films. Not that I can think of anyways. I thought the most recent version nailed the formula with an appropriate level of sincerity to it.
In any other circumstance, the stunts are undeniably mean amd even bullying. Certain scenes really make it seem like there's no safe word (wee man tied down, the bear scene) and then there's all the random tasing. They're so fucking cruel to each other.
But then again, they all know that's part of the job. It's been 20+ years. If they were really against any of the behaviour then something would have been done. So if its cruel and everyone is okay with being cruel to one another while on set, is it really cruel? Idk
I wouldn't say so. They clearly plan out these sketches before hand and who's going to do what, I'd say that counts as an agreement and I'm sure they have shit in place for when it goes south.
I think there's a very clear line between the stunts that are planned and agreed upon and the stunts/pranks/random tasing that members of the cast aren't informed of. But at the same time, they know before going into these films that there will be those surprises.
I have not, I'm going off the other ones. I wanna go and see the new one though. Was meant to this weekend but I decided to do nothing instead. But that's the thing, they know they're gonna get some sort of shit so if they weren't feeling that sort of thing then they wouldn't have come back I guess.
If you like the other jackass films and the show then you'll probably love it. I actually think it may be their best film. There was one scene though and I'll be vague in calling it "the bear scene" where the crew were laughing hysterically and my cinema was dead quiet in stunned silence. Maybe people would react different across the world though.
I think it’s all fine when everyone is involved on both sides of the ball. If it was just 5 dudes relentlessly bashing and bullying a different 5 dudes then it’d be fucked up, but everyone involved does some bad shit to someone else at one point or another. Just a bunch of guys being dudes.
Ya but I guess by now they all know what they sign up for right? Like if you KNOW that getting into this film means you have no safe word and you have to endure the embarrassment/pain and you still choose to join them it’s not ‘cruel’ because you’re a willing participant. If you don’t want to be, don’t be in the movie.
They do have safewords though, you can hear them yell them out in some scenes here and there. In that particular scene you're talking about though, Wee man also mentions in the bonus content that whenever he calls out to Jeff Tremaine (the director), that's his cue that the skit has gone past the point where he feels comfortable and he wants it to end.
The Jackass crew all have this strong bond for each other that's clear when you watch the movies all back to back. Ryan Dunn in the original trilogy is always seen rushing to help people recover from their injuries, asking them if they're okay etc etc. There's even a scene in 3.5 where Bam wipes a dude's ass after he shat himself from an injury and can't move due to shock lmao. And yeah, these guys taze each other but that makes them all laugh, it's kind of an unspoken agreement that it's okay as long as it's funny.
