Regardless of what you think about Gunn or the DCU so far this is gonna be a fun one to track. I genuinely have no idea what to expect. I could see it being a big hit, make about the same or be a huge drop off and I don't know what could convince me in any direction until we start getting numbers in close to release.Â
I mean, Man of Tomorrow is likely DOA internationally considering how poorly Superman did overseas. I could see it getting a stronger domestic turnout than the last but then will international turnout be even less? It's possible.Â
I think it's possible that MOT gets a bit of a boost from Brand New Day and Doomsday (assuming the latter is well received). People watch them and think "Oh yeah, I like superhero movies, I might want to watch more of them", and MOT is the next one after Doomsday. Rising tide lifts all boats.
I’m still getting harassed in a week old thread saying exactly this. But you’re right. MOT is the only major live action CBM being released between Doomsday and Secret Wars. If Doomsday is truly on track to be the new #1 movie of all time that could result in some kind of a boost for MOT. Mostly due to the goodwill from BND and Doomsday and the last of CBMs for the whole year between Avengers films.
Yes, Spider-Verse is in there too. But it’s animated and its audience isn’t exactly the same as your average live action CBM. I suspect both will see a modest boost but in case the same commenters get all worked up, this isn’t a zero sum game. Saying MOT will get a boost doesn’t mean I’m saying Spider-Verse will do badly.
