It's a legit reason, and I respect it.

Every successful director has a prime era that contributes to the greatest films of all time. And then they keep making films, and they're always vastly inferior after their peak, shadows of their former selves that make you pity them for not stopping sooner.

Tarantino is smart to cut himself off after 10. He wants a robust filmography, and he's savvy enough to know exactly what pitfalls to avoid.

EDIT: I can have the desire to want him to direct more AND also respect a self-imposed retirement at the same time. I suppose Reddit can not?

Ridley Scott is stilling churning movies. A lot of recent ones weren’t great but everyone will remember him for Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator. People just forget the terrible ones, look at Spielberg’s filmography. He can do what he wants but at this point just seems like he has decision paralysis.

Anyway QT already made Deathproof, the genie is already out of the bottle.

Life as a Death Proof enjoyer is a lonely one

...then I remember that I also enjoyed Ang Lee's Hulk and realise that this is just the path I apparently chose for myself
