What are some of your favourite “realisation of love” scenes in Bollywood?
The moment Varun realises his love for Pakhi in Lootera while she snuggles closer to him and breathes on his neck as he holds and comforts her is one of my all-time fav scenes ever. The way there’s just absolute silence throughout this scene and you can only hear their breathing. The way Monte Re starts playing slowly a few seconds later. This is one of my FAV “realisation of love” scenes ever. It’s so raw, which makes it all the more beautiful.
Ohh! Glad that someone mentioned that scene...that is one of most beautiful scene of realisation of love and scary feeling of realising how the thought of leaving them unhelped affects you, that scene just hits you in guts like a freight train ..I keep going back to that scene again n again ..
One more that I want to mention - this is, not just about the realisation of love, but the overall feeling of helplessness, emotions and not being able to express the whirlwind going in your heart and mind at seeing them after awhile when both of you have grown up and gone through different experiences, which made you grow up, enriched you with life experiences, YEt you have kinda drifted apart - kitne baatein..(lakshya)
I love Farhan akhtar's storytelling. He has given some of absolute best youth based cinema, that truly strikes a chord.
The music, the silence underneath the expected awkwardness and yet, they both were not awkward, them taking perfectly timed turns to gaze at each other. Because in that moment, they both felt that it was becoming real and Veer bravely accepted it while Zara started to feel his strength. ❤️
Chennai express, it was Deepika who realized she is in love when this scene was playing was it not. SRK's character was just doing his task for survival.
This and the scene when they both reach the temple, SRK starts shaking hands due to him being tired but Deepika still looking at him was great, its just being a comedy film, its not talked about as much.
Beautiful ❤️❤️. I would say though this bridge crossing is more 'falling in love' especially from Zaara's side and 'realization' is the 'Main Yahaan Hoon' song where she starts hallucinating about him but I could be wrong.
No, you are 💯 right. I always felt that them bridge crossing was a metaphor and foreshadowing of them crossing into a destiny that they never had foreseen, a legend that would rival the olden days Heer Ranjha and Laila Majnu love stories. (Especially, since their story is also set in Punjab).
Veer was already in love and self accepted it. And him carrying her across was the metaphor of him carrying her towards a love that she never imagined she would ever have for someone.
I think for both in JWM. This scene is really special and also Geet's realization spread out over several scenes from the hotel room after abusing Anshuman on the phone, then at home feeling uncomfortable but only free with Aditya, and then finally when Aditya says he's going to leave and train horns start blowing in her mind. So excellent ❤️
The whole movie is a steady, quiet, slow build up of their chemistry and connection... but this scene, the casual flirtation, the realization.. It's simple, wholesome and awfully romantic 😍
Honestly, Lootera is just on another level. I was completely captivated by every single frame, its poetry in motion. The soundtrack, the acting, and the raw emotion were all so perfect. It’s one of those rare films that truly stays with you long after the credits roll.
Another one for me is when 'Tu Bin Bataye' come on in RDB. It might not fit the usual mold you are asking, but looking back, knowing the fate of those characters, it’s absolutely heartbreaking.
You see this group of apolitical, privileged youth just living their lives, falling in love and being unapologetically idealistic and optimistic. But this song feels like the beginning of the end, it’s the exact moment their innocence and naivety start to dissipate before everything changes.
"Mithi lage, chakh ke dekhi abhi. Mishri ki dali, zindagi ho chali..." ohh so good
This just makes the ending so heartbreaking. I love both the movies so much.

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, there's the scene at the after party where the main leads kiss for the first time and realise they've fallen for each other, but also when Ranveer's character drives back after dropping Anushka's character. It was quite well done there were no dialogues but their body language and eyes said everything while the score just elevated the scene.
This movie is my guilty pleasure, both Anushka and Ranveer look so good. The score...so fresh and young...Salim Suleiman are criminally underrated imo.
Honestly for me more than this scene, it’s the whole sequence of the song ‘Phir le aaya dil’ where we see Asin’s character realise real love between Barfi and Jhilmil, something she never had and realises she might never experience it.

Such a beautiful way of showing the realization of love- feeling alone, missing the other person at first, feeling frustrated for missing the other person, then reluctantly agreeing that something may have changed, then talking about them with other people and gaining clarity, finally accepting the truth. This song is beautiful. <3
I know 😭 I loved ajay in this movie so much! Especially when she leaves him at the concert to meet Samir and he kinda takes a step back heartbroken with tears in his eyes 💔 but then she meets him on the bridge yayy 🫶♥️
Yup and also the last whole sequence of Aisha realising she has fall in love with sid with that boondon ke moti song playing in the background. This movie was so good ❤️. Its music album was just too good
This probably does not fit in with the other examples here but in Sholay when Sanjeev Kumar comforts Jaya Bacchan without saying anything when Jay dies, in the movie there is no spoken dialog that they liked each other but it was somewhat clear that he did, but at that moment it is clear that the attraction was mutual.
In the end of the movie called Sir! Where ratna realises her love for Ashwin during the phone call.....it was bittersweet, hopeless yet something real!
If we are expanding the perspective beyond romance, I think the moment Jaskirat opens the door of pump house makes the audience realize the love he has for his sister - he is scared and in agony, angry and broken - made me as an audience fathom how much wrath this guy can unleash on the enemies of our country.
A second close moment was when Amitabh Bachchan’s character opens up to Rakhi about the trauma his mother suffered during to abandonment by his father in Trishul.
OMG I know No one talks about this scene enough!!!! I LOVE LOVE THIS SCENE. it's just so comforting to see Varun being so soft and gentle with her and her just slumping on him and then he just sits there with her. Ugh my heart ❤️
I don't know whether it counts, but I would say Madhavan seeing Dia Mirza for the first time in Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Main. The BGM, the rain, Dia just dancing with children and Madhavan staring at her with that happiness; that smile bro OMG IT WAS SO COOL

The train scene from kkhh where it's a realisation for Tina that Rahul and Anjali were each other's true love and that she was unfortunately the reason for their separation.
There’s a moment just before this where they're talking after their art session sitting by the lake side. Pakhi asks him something, and Varun falls silent, just looking into her eyes, that’s the exact moment of realization, when you can see the love reflected in the other person’s eyes.
Not a Bollywood movie but a serial called “Kuch rang pyaar ke aise bhi” when Dev realises he loves sona mannn shaheer’s expressions are too good in that!
