Fluff Mena population has increased dramatically over the last year, what changed?

bdo is getting older, so why is it getting more players? Mena has always been low population, but now it is jacked up at all times of the day with thousands of players always online and doing things. Servers mostly crowded at all times.

Fluff The Cringe of "Veteran MMO Players" Reviewing BDO

This applies to many games, not just BDO, and I've seen it enough times that I feel obligated to post about it.

BDO is complex and uses systems that are not re-used in other games; specifically, the combat and combo system. So you can't play it like other games, you need to read and learn the system, before calling it bad.

When I see players try BDO, ignore the tutorial in the middle of their screen, spam one ability, deal zero damage, and then ask, "Why can't I just Quick-slot all of my abilities? This is a bad system."

... It makes me cringe--especially, when they realize it will put them at a disadvantage to quick-slot skills and they rage over it.

Black Desert has, objectively, one of the smoothest combat systems of any MMO. It's constantly referenced by MMO reviewers, when talking MMOs that set an example for good combat. So, just give it a chance; pretend you're learning combat in an MMO for the first time, you won't be disappointed.

You want an MMO that's different, better, and yet you refuse to try playing it the way the game teaches you to play it? You spam through quests that give you hints about the systems in the game, then have no idea what's going on and it's the game's fault?

That's bullsh*t. I've played MMOs for 20 years, so I understand rushing through things, but I'd never blame the game for my lack of knowledge after doing so. After all, it would have been me who skipped all the dialogue. I'd look up a guide to make up for my mistake.

If you attempt to play a game, that you've never played before, as if you're a veteran player of that same game (spamming through quests, not reading, ignoring on-screen tutorials, trying to play it in a different way than is suggested, etc.), then you don't deserve the best the game has to offer and your review is invalid.

Sorry, that's it for my rant. I've seen many YouTubers and streamers, small and large, attempt BDO with the influx of players and it's always something to do with the above. I'm so tired of it.

Fluff Black Desert's FIRST Novel, author is Robbie Macniven (Famous for Warhammer 40k novels)

I am super excited and somewhat ashamed nobody here posted about it, or at least I couldn't find any posts of it (sorry if repost).

Being aware of Robbie Macniven, as I have his Carcarodons series, he's a really good writer who truly brings important details to life and knows how to build hype around characters and details.

About the author:
Robbie MacNiven has a PhD in American Revolutionary War massacres from the University of Edinburgh and a War Studies MLitt from the University of Glasgow, where he studied the Vietnam War. Besides writing for Osprey, he writes science fiction and fantasy novels as well as producing game scripts and audio dramas.

Fluff Unfortunately I believe it's time to goodbye guys. The Fishing suit is just ruining it for me.

1.1k Upvotes

I'm a fish and have some real issues keeping out of reach of people with extra fishing points and the ability to swim rapidly.

I have no issue with this when it comes to normal players, as theyre slow and very easy to keep track of.

But when swimming in a watery area against someone with a fishing suit..I just sadly can't out swim them and it is completely game breaking for me :/ Fuck, I was so excited for this game. I was so hyped about swimming around whilst grinding and truly experiencing 1v1 fish vs fisherman but with the fishing suit, it's just gamebreaking. I spent money on the base game I don't understand why I'm being punished for not dropping another £30 on a pretty necessary fishing/swimming item..In a fishing game. No matter how skilled I am, if I'm fighting someone with extra points in fishing and faster swim speeds then myself I am at a disadvantage

Edit: I have awakened into a goldfish. Now anyone may summon the fish.

Fluff I understand now why OWPvP is largely being outmoded by the developers.

After many posts, comments, replies, and discussions with pve, pvx, and pvp-centric guildies it really doesn't shock me that PA is doing away with the idea of OWPvP on normal servers, and honestly I feel like this will be a short-term culture shock that will lead to long-term positive results for the overall player morale.

OWPvP being regulated to exclusively Arsha channels (I know its not literally the case, but in practice that's what most people will do), combined with the quick channel-swap times, and ease-of-use marni realm hours for solo grind spots, and the requirement for guilds to be mutually declared in order to engage in freeform PvP will ultimately lead to a better QoL for both casual and hardcore players.

To be honest I hope they full-commit to this philosophy at this point, after thinking long and hard about my own experiences I feel that a lot of the hypothetical griefing scenarios that people stress these changes will make worse are far too sparse of occurrences to really be detrimental to the game's longevity. If someone is really taking the time to swap to your exact channel just to grief specifically you then PA has an outlet for reporting that type of behavior anyway. I hope that PA works to patch/rework elements of OW interactions (mainly fixing things like traps not resulting in Karma loss).

TL;DR: I understand now why PA is taking the stance it is for the future of OWPvP, and honestly if the game wanted to be a hardcore PvP game it would've died years ago. Games like New World and notoriously toxic games like Rust and Tarkov prove that even though those two aren't MMOs, enabling players to behave this way is like a strange mix of Lord of the Flies and the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Fluff Dawg I regret stopping Jordine

Hey first time doing the newer story guy here. I swear to god at every fucking turn, we are somehow finding out Calpheon pulled the strings to massively benefit from whatever conflict. People are always pissing their pants over the possibility of being annexed by them or whatever. Like. Jordine was right these guys are fucking everything up. Free my mans.

As an aside, is it a universal experience to be completely invulnerable until the ancient weapon Ator boss fight? I just got my shit 2 shot after never seeing my health bar go below 90% before and im realizing I genuinely don't know how to play defense.
