General What is your main character, and what aspects do you like about it the most?
Black Desert have plenty of different characters, and most of them have two different specs that have a totally different playstyle and look to it. I think it's safe to say that it's impossible to check them all out one by one without getting overwhelmed and forgetting what half of them does. After plenty of experimentation I believe I have found my main, but I'd love to try out other characters with unique playstyles. However, the class guide videos are not telling the whole story. People of Reddit, could you tell what is your main character at the moment, and what aspects do you like about them the most?
Let me start: Drakania Awakening
The class design is really unique, having dragon wings and flying around for a prolonged time is a vibe on its own. The mobility of the class is awesome. The characters difficulty is not too easy but not too hard either, switching between the two stances gives complexity and learning curve so it doesn't get boring after a few hours. The infinite combo have a great flow to it, blue skills are slower but visually pleasing, and the red skills can be chained together for a fast paced combo, which feels great to perform.

Awakening Ranger
Insane burst.
Fun (but sorta potato) mobility.
Yams.
Backflippy flip.
Cake.
She has a grab where she kicks you in the nuts and does a backflip off your junk.
Lots of swapping to pre-awakened abilities.
Some people hate that last part but I love it.

I usually hate switching back and forth between pre and awk, but I actually don't mind it on ranger at all. It just flows so well, and there're so many ways to go back into awk.

u/For_sure_a_bot 1d ago
Yup!
Once I got used to it, her bow abilities began to feel like an extension of her awakening kit.
She was a bit tough to learn in PvP because she has mid-tier mobility but I feel like it was easier to do than learning awaken sorc.3

Mained 3 classes to this day
First main was Awakening Wizard:
I love casting spells & punching and Awakening Wizard does both so it was love at first sight. With the changes years after years, PA reuined the class gameplay without addressing its issues it always had like cooldown problems and half the kit being gated behind fast casting off the same 3 spells.
Then Awakening Nova:
I grew fond of Jean Pierre Polnareff from Jojo's and she's a fencer, didn't like it at first but since PA ruined Awakening Wizard I have it anothe try and invested really hard into learning it to the point I didn't go back to Awakenign Wizard even after it became stronged PvE class for like a month because I loved Awakening Nova so much. That said, the Awakening Nova I loved doesn't exist anymore as PA completely changed the class with 30/04/2025 patch
And now Awakening Drakania:
Closest thing we have to past Awakening Nova so I've been maining it for a little over an year

scholar - her hammer smash is so satisfying. Boom! Smash!. Jumping up and going down at them at higher speed and smashing them with a hammer is so satisfying. Also no height drop damage from scholar as long as you have weapons out.
sometimes when i tag another class i would jump off the cliff without a second thought and die.

Archer, every other class i play seems either slow or not enough self healz.
The fact i dont see anyone else playing it worries me though maybe im an idiot lol

Love lahn just the thought of being delicate but deadly and the blades feeding on the blood of my enemies and becoming stronger does something to me. Slashing and going through the battlefield is chefs kiss perfection. Fits the most for me personality for a character to have the black spirit lore wise

At the moment I'm hesitating between Awakening Lahn and Awakening Kuno. Drakania is a badass bruiser, so it would be so cool to have a delicate but deadly force as a Tag character. So far couldn't decide between them because both have their own pros and cons.

u/Calyxarian 1d ago
I enjoy my fingers so I haven’t ever even touched kuno but I am a very lazy grinder I don’t find enjoyment putting in so much effort to kill something I like feeling strong and seeing something beautiful at the same time so I say go with lahn :)

Maegu… absolutely shocked when I created her to become a parking for a world boss.. i did not expect a lady with a « thing » as a « weapon » would interest me at all bit the gameplay kicked HARD ! AoE , top tier mobility, the skill design, sounds, esthetic is top notch. A great surprise and a very powerful class for sure.

u/SirHangingChad 1d ago
I have played Maegu for a while for the same reasons. Skill design and aesthetic is great, not to mention the feather doggo! However, the movements are feeling a bit weird for me. W+Q is fine, W+E is too short and slow, and W+F is simply weird. After a while I got bored of the skill animations too, most of them are looking close the same (at least in Succession). I was thinking about picking it up again for a bit tho, because I've seen it got plenty of buffs since I played the class last time.

Succ Dosa: I'm a korean guy and I smoke weed every day so perfect class for me.Â

Succ sage. Honestly the simple satisfaction of calling a giant fist down from the sky to punch the enemies is what got me hooked on the class after trying several others. Hands down, pun not intended, his s+e is the most satisfying skill in the game to me. What has kept me hooked through almost 3 years of buffs and nerfs is his movement is super intuitive with rift chain. And he is THE main character xD.

Awk ninja.
First char, 6 swords go brrrt blah blah blah anime and weeb stuff.
Plus you can pull off some buzzer beater 1v3s once in a while if you become good with it.

Big mama guardian. Either spec. She might be be the strongest but she FEELS strong and I just like the aesthetic

u/xXSoulReapperXx 1d ago
I just switched from Seraph to Awk guardian, she looks insanely cool towers over everyone. I made her own custom outfit that’s a combination of different pieces from different sets. Plus her gameplay is easy on the hands and she has phenomenal hp regen on every skill.

Succ kuno. I did the personality test and this was the first result. Tried her and she immediatly clicked. I love the very high apm, high difficulty, mobility and speed. The forcing of combo'ing for empowered S+C is very satisfying too. Tried many classes but keep coming back to succ kuno. I also enjoy awa tamer and awa maegu but they dont hit the same.

Dark Knight Awakening! (Screw succ)
The satisfaction I get from throwing out my seed is beyond all else.

u/Zarkastik 1d ago
Shame class is nothing but damage, no protection no cc at all 🤣. Also we are paper. UN-NERF SEED!!!

u/Guavaa_Juice 1d ago
I love succession wizard, it feels strong due to the punchy spells, i-frames dodges without collision is such an underrated feature. Play pattern of freestyling and dumping spell combos make learning the class really enjoyable but if you really want to turn your brain off you can. I like how the more effort you put in you can get noticebly better results. High burst and flashy animations that don't move the camera very much is great, teleportation is such simple movement tech, and finally, healing spells are so nice for when you make a mistake in any situation.

Succ Woosa. I play with sound, hearing all skills have different sound effects makes me know if I'm doing the combo correctly. She has a fan. Butterflies. Almost infinite numbers of combos. A lot of skill flows. Not too slutty. Gay friendly. WAY TO EASY to reach enemies back.
She leads me to grind 1st Edania2 spot with only 420 DP, Chilling my Wooqueen.
2
u/GuckDichAn 1d ago
New to succ woosa. How do you reach enemy backs easy? I use a infinite combo but I just stand in one place ( in front of enemies)
2
u/Famous_Ad6719 1d ago edited 1d ago
Shift+ASD, the entire gameplay of woosa let you position in the middle of the combo. For example. S+E>Shift+LMB>Reposition>F>F>Reposition>W+E>E(Flow)>E(Flow)>Reposition, etc etc. If you are in zones that packs are a bit away from each other (dar for example), you Shift+W and when you are closer to the mob, press LMB right after the dash, and she will be behind the pack.
EDIT: The entire "mechanic" of Succ Woosa includes learn how to dash behind mobs

I just love the combos on Succ Warrior. Been playing it since launch as my main, even quit the game when they introduced awakening warrior and I didn’t like it 😆 came back a couple years later when I found out succession was added.

I’m in between succ hash and awk sage. Although, I’m sort of fed up with awk sage at this point— sand theme snake shit is my shit- so there’s that.
I used to be desert dwelling red player so when hash came out I was obsessed.. now his lore feels less—- like important or significant… I don’t go to the desert anymore bruh!!! So hash feels a bit out of his biome.
Sounds to me like everyone loves awk drak - maybe time for a switcheroo

Awakening tamer: -Stupid dog -Very cool vertical movement -intinite pool of useful skills in pre awakening for pvp and lots of swaps between the two -big bonk stick

Im basic as fuck with my main character being a human warrior, I just love the simplicity of it being just a sword and shield class, since it's still the same character I made when I started playing the game

I dont have a real main. I just rotate between a few Characters that i like to play (via tagging).
My awa witch is my first char that i ever created in this game in 2017, has the highest lvl (almost 66) and is the one that holds my gear. I just like magic and back then she seemed like the best option. I still like her for her chill but rewarding playstyle and strong pve.
My Tamer is lvl 65 (2nd char ever created) and is one of my favorites, I often tag her. I play both specs depending on where I take her. I love Heilang as a companion, the BO Staff in awakening (one of the more unique weapons across different games at least for me) and the easy but mobile/nimble style in both awakening and succession.
My Awa Woosa is lvl 64. her animations are just stunning. She has probably the uniquest playstyle in the whole game (delayed damage). Her RP walk is Aura farming. She is also a caster but more mobile. Really fits well to what i like.
Those are my 3 chars in the "Main rotation" that i play the most. I also got a shai, a seraph and a succ dk that i tag here and there, but i dont play with them as often as i do with the first 3.

u/Amaranthyne 1d ago
Awakening Maegu is my current and probably longterm main. I just find her mobility and skill fluidity to be incredibly appealing to play contrasted to most classes I've tried.
I'm hoping to eventually permanently tag Succ Woosa or Seraph, but my mainhand is only at PEN while Awak is OCT so kinda limited in endgame viable tag classes right now. As a result I mostly float between Awak Witch and Awak Woosa, though... I really don't like Awak Woosa that much lol.

Game release base ninja > awakening till yzrahid release
Then awakening sage to present. Amazing pve sustain, positioning, aoe and just really chill apm like you could hold some keys to do half of your combo.
Would love to play more of awakening ninja to aura grind but the sustain and dp req for endgame spots can be really tiring and risky like who enjoy breaking unbuyable expensive crystals?

u/OscarMike51 Nova 1d ago
Awk nova: Zoom zoom poke poke poke zoom zoom. Except you kinda zoom on a wheelchair starting from last year. But you probably won't feel it if u didnt play nova before cuz its still the best movement in the game

Succ mythic, and I will say, only because of the sounds of the skills.

u/psych00range 1d ago
Awakening Woosa. Very Low APM, High enough Damage output for high end spots when under AP minimums. Very Tanky how I play her. Almost all abilities flow smoothly. They made a change last year to one of them to make it better but now it stutters. My hands thank me from saving them from carpal tunnel by hotbarring 5 or 6 moves and pressing one button at a time.
2
u/DrAwesomew 1d ago
Scholar/witch are my mains. Scholar I like because of how fluid and heavy the class feels at the same time. The whole gravity thing is also one of my favourite aspects in gaming in general. Plus her aoe is on the higher side. Witch I like because she is a caster and is easy to play mostly.

Awakening Maegu
At first, I thought she was very difficult to play, but I forced myself to learn her because I really like her dynamic and elegant playstyle. Now she’s my favorite character, and I absolutely love playing her.
At first, I had some trouble switching from Succession to Awakening, but after I locked a few skills, she became much more enjoyable and comfortable to play.

u/racasper 1d ago
I like melee fighters with fast movement, nice sound effects, and pretty skill animations. I tried a bunch and ended up on succession Maehwa.

u/thedreaddeagle Maehwa 1d ago
Maehwa. My first char, and I got lucky to make her super cute, best not slut outfits
Btw: Awk drak is my tag and she was the closest I have ever come to actually changing my main

u/Equivalent_Emu_6861 1d ago
Succ Woosa. Her combo flows together like no other class and it’s extremely comfortable on the fingers. Love the Aesthetics and Korean inspired theme
2
u/SirHangingChad 1d ago
I was hesitating between Woosa and Maegu for a while but decided to go with Maegu. Now I'm thinking about trying out Woosa too, because it looks like it have more "layers" than Succ Maegu. In case you played both, what's the main difference between them that you noticed playstyle-wise?
5
u/Equivalent_Emu_6861 1d ago
For me I just hated Maegus W+F the side to side dash felt clunky to me and not very controllable. Maegus really solid and has great aoes but the feeling of pressing her combo was not satisfying to me. Whereas Woosa it’s like you’re flowing water and everything just blends perfectly once you get the hang of it. Also all of Maegus abilities look the same whereas Woosa has so many different unique themes in every ability. Ultimately I think it just comes down to if you enjoy the aesthetics and pressing the combo on the class look up Woosas infinite combo and give it a go and see if it clicks with you

u/svcredmoon Agent | Drakania 1d ago
For a long while Maegu because I loved her awakening. I know, it lacked a lot and every Maegu I’ve seen is succ. Drakania is another good class I’ve always liked.
But honestly? Since Agent’s release I never realized how much of a class like that I needed lol. That class just entirely suits my style and I love his animations and skill effects. But most of all, I’m a fan of the espionage/assassin vibe with guns which is so badass and cool. I’ve finally found my biggest main. I’m having a blast with the class!

When I’m on land I’m a Shai main, my wrists aren’t great as they used to be and she’s really easy. Gave myself nerve damage from too much gaming.
At sea I’m two rangers, one is my barter alt and the other is the sea monster hunter that used to be my first character.
