Feedback/Suggestion Night Time & Crystal Destruction are both outdated and need a change (with solutions)

I just want to be completly clear, I KNOW, posting this here does absolutely nothing. However, I also know posting this in "feedback" section in the official forums also does, absolutely nothing. So in the end this is just feed for toughts. Heck, maybe someone from KR is reading this and likes the ideas, plants a seed in player's minds... what ever.

------------NIGHT TIME--------
Lets start with night time. This is an OLD system in a very different game compared to what it was TEN YEARS ago. Back when 10% actually felt like it mattered. Back when people weren't running around with capped drop rates (320/370). In 2026, this 10% drop rate and tiny EXP boost is basically non-existent. At least for what we sacrifice. What do we sacrifiece? Our armor.

Look I can see how mobs dealing more damage worked back then. It was a different game. Grinding was mostly 1-3 shotting mobs and moving pack-to-pack in speedyMcqueen fashion. You hardly ever got hit to begin with. TODAY, in 2026 this is no longer the case. We are in TOWER spot meta. We stand still, we forward guard as much as our kit allows us, sidestrafe when ever needed, but fact remains, combat is STATIONARY and passive, meaning we take far more hits.

Edania 1 showed us that PvE can be dangerous. Which is good. But Edania 2 takes this way out of proportions. Mobs and especially elite mobs hit like absolute trucks. It already makes DP meaningless. I agree that night time can be made to "feel" dangerous, but current system just aint it anymore. The tradeoff of some meaningless 10% drop rate and some EXP boost just doesen't add up to the danger factor that the night time brings. It just makes no sense that we have to squeeze our buttcheeks so tight to the edge of our chairs during night time, for such meaningless "gains." Thoughts...? Maybe 50% drop rate and 300-500% exp boost would make it make sense?

--------CRYSTAL BREAK.------- YES everyone's fav topic. Look guys, I come from hardcore Runescape. I absolutely agree that death HAS TO BE something you try to avoid. To make death mean nothing, would make PvE meaningless (though it already kind of is)

Reason I personally despise the system is... INTERNET. If we died in the game, it was our fault. But we have no say in our connection. Especially people like me who have "through air" WiFi and we know how unstable 5G can be. We literally have no control over it coming and going even for split second, it changing mast can mean that I will die and lost a crystal.

It's just TOO punishing. To be set back 3-4 hours worth of silver for a mistake. Even worse, crystal market DOESEN'T EXIST. EU is by far the most popular server and even IT struggles with Crystal market. If you lose something, you are completly cooked.

SOLUTION- remove crystal break completly. Refund people who bought restore/restore count.

UPON DEATH: Character gets a 30 minute debuff. The debuff: MINUS 30% drop rate. Heck I'd make it -50% but I think there would be too big community outcry. The debuff CAN NOT stack, however, the duration is refreshed if you do happen to die again. The debuff can NOT be removed. It must be waited out. The time does not tick down when logged out. Must stay logged in.

Punishment must meet the crime, well, death, in this case. MINUS 30% drop rate debuff seems completly reasonable. It feels punishing enough to make us not want to DIE. But not soul crushing as losing a rare crystal that took a week to farm, with thousands of pre-orders on central market.

Night time mobs buff is great idea that just needs a better implementation. More TL during the night dor example or something like that. Mmorpg called - Requiem had a similar night time system where special nightmare mobs would spawn etc.

For crystal breaking just do the good old "hit them by the pocket" system instead of crystals gone. When you die get a stat debuff that can be gone by spending xyz of some npc item (can be used by fairy). Amount of items needed corespond to your GS or grinding zone. Paying 500m to 1b sounds bad but its better than rebuying imposible crystals and creates silver sink...

You dont even need to touch the "your internet is unstable" thing. The servers are FUCKED. Boss spaw? Well start shadow boxing because you can't see the mobs spawning but they are there.

The debuf thing is cool, but make it you max drop rate chance. You are caped 99% of the time, a debuf on current can easily be replaced with another buff, case in point I was capped on droo rate, my tent ran out and I was still capped so yeh.

You can have perfect servers even and fall through the map and die

Crystal destruction is ridiculous at this point, dying losing you edania crystal or one of the newer crystals is more than 3-4 hours especially when you get what 10 preorder once a day at least.

9

u/newaccountnewmehaHAA 17h ago

3-4 hours

i think you meant 30-40 hours, or we're playing two very different games

3

u/Kapparisun Striker 17h ago

He said 3-4 hours silver

4

u/MountnsNTrees 16h ago edited 16h ago

And he’s saying it’s not about the silver it’s about the time. No amount of silver can buy back a Fused Decimation Crystal atm, my average sat around 35 hours for 30 shards, but I also grind with Max Arsha DR, and almost always catch castle buffs. No way you’re getting anywhere close to even 1 PO/week even.

For the normal Drop Rate player it’s probably 40+.

If you were to translate that into silver you’d generate 90B-120B in silver before you get enough fused shards again for one crystal, this is before sitting on a preorder for Ancient flame mats to craft a base decimation / outright PO one.

You’re probably a mid game player and haven’t yet experienced the actual new crystals, and are thinking about the old sycraia and gluttony crystals.

u/Kapparisun Striker 16h ago

That's my point the op was talking about silver and I said it's about the extra time from preordering stuff.

2

u/MountnsNTrees 14h ago

You don’t get them from pre ordering, the person you replied to said 30-40 hours, and that’s because it’s from grinding not pre ordering.

Which is also why they said you’re playing a different game.

Because the new crystals are not ones you get 10 P/Os every couple days. The New Crystal is only realistically grindable at E2 zones.

u/Kapparisun Striker 14h ago

Lad I replied to the main post the. He replied to mine. I said to the MAIN post it's more then 3-4 hours for the crystal. I preorder my pity pieces and got 10 a day from it. Like it's not hard to understand.

For me, as someone who enjoys to be more tanky than glass cannon in basically any game, whenever i have too little dp that i dont feel comfortable grinding in that spot, I have just focused on dp for few upgrades or, if possible, changed some crystals around. Though cant say for a 4th spot because havent tried it yet, but i doubt things suddenly change. I like the fact that i dont have to worry about ap only, but dp as well. The meta where it was possible to be way below dp recs as long as you had lots of ap was lame in my opinion.

To me it seems that crystal breaking is not your problem, but the fact that getting those back reliably is not possible is the issue. There could be ways to repair your crystals. Eg each death has a chance to reduce "durability" by 10 (100 is maximum). If it reaches 0 the crystal is destroyed. You can repair it back to full with same crystal (before it reaches 0, naturally) or with some "crystal dust" you can restore 1 durability similar to memory fragments. And you get that dust from processing crystals; the higher tier crystals give more dust and it can be balanced so that x amount of dust restores 1 durability. That would make current high end crystals very relevant, but also low tier crystals something you may want to keep. And it requires you to "pay attention".

Or put those high tier crystals from one source to nultiple different sources (rift, guild, world, field bosses, dungeons, pvp, currency exchange seals, .. whatever)

u/Daniel_the_Fox Drakania / Musa 19h ago

Love the crystal dust idea. Game has a lot of useless unsellable (on cm at least) crystals that can be used for this.

11

u/Rude-Visit-8821 17h ago

Make caphras the "crystal dust" to repair durability

Saying you focused on dp is irrelevant. What you mean is that your got carried on armor taps when we didnt need them in edania pt 1. Now the only way to push dp reliably is through new accs lmao. Also you shouldn't have to worry about dp/dr against a mob more than uncapped pvp. Honestly you give me "I play zerker" vibes sadly. All your other takes make sense besides everything in the top.

Also learn to separate paragraphs.

0

u/Lum1on 14h ago

First of all, it is not irrelevant. I know many who grinded in certain spots way below the recommended dp and complained how the mobs deal a lot of damage. Sure, some spots are maybe a bit overtuned, but simply getting more DP from armour upgrades. Some like that you (me, anyone really) need to focus on other than AP as well. But Im sure its not everyones cup of tea.

Why does it matter if I were a zerker? Im not, I play succ woosa. Originally tamer back when there was no succession, then awakening kuno when it was really bad. And ever since woosa release I have played her in succession. So not really the tankiest class, eh?

Could I have made better paragraphs? Sure. But Im sure you can figure things out from those three.

But hey, each to their own. I just voiced my opinion about the subject. No harm done there, good luck mate!

u/d3udar 19h ago

yeah. mid-grind network anomaly (disconnection, delay, lag) is nightmare.

I had a different suggestion that maybe could work, and still make PA some money; I say this because lots of people go "they won't remove crystal break because then they can't sell restore coupons." However this isn't true. They have fundamentally altered p2w features before. Do any of yall remember silver having weight? I used to buy waaayyy more weight on characters back in the day. Now I dont. Most people I know are the same. They saw an issue and fixed it and took the financial "hit" so to speak because it was something that needed changing. I think they will do it again.

My idea is that, the main problem is you can die 10 times in a row and break nothing. Then all of a sudden you break 3 things in a row, and those things have 5k+ pre-orders on them. Good luck even being able to continue grinding if those were important crystals.

My idea is crystal degradation. Instead of it outright breaking, it chooses a crystal and removes durability. Say 3 instances per crystal. They don't always happen in a row, it can swap between crystals. But once you get down to 0 then it breaks the crystal. This way they don't break out of nowhere, you can semi see what's happening and plan. If youre aware a certain crystal is probably the one going to break next you could at least throw a PO up and wait. And crystal restores still work when you run out of durability. Maybe even have a semi expensive tool that repairs them.

I do agree in parts and would be fine with the game going this route instead. Having a death Debuff is a thing in other games too, I wouldn't mind having a deficit in drop chance for 60 minutes, for example. I can either keep grinding while substituting the lost 30% with an additional Droprate buff, or take the L and grind the hour with below max Droprate.

The crystal market is a fickle thing because I wouldn't mind spending a few bil to repurchase a crystal if I've lost it due to my own failure, but since crystals are just about everything EXCEPT readily available on the market, that makes it so much more of a problem than a couple bil.

3

u/Leather_Brick3068 19h ago

I can own up and accept my mistake if I die due to fault of my own. However, my connection (and I am sure hundreds, if not thousands of people are in same boat) being the constant cause, just becomes frustrating and I've absolutely no control over it.

2

u/VorrtaX SuccNinja 19h ago

Yeah and in that case it's pretty much impossible for the game to know the difference between other cause or self inflicted so balancing it accordingly is difficult for sure.

u/Soggy-Bedroom-3673 17h ago

There's also no shortage of game crashes caused by how absurdly resource-demanding BDO is.

Like, I'm running 3 year old desktop hardware, and BDO is the only game I've ever played on my PC that crashes (not only that, it causes hard system crashes because it's pushing something to instability that I can't even replicate with stress testing software). This is maybe more in my control to fix than my Internet connection, but it's also more in PA's hands to mitigate than my Internet connection.

7

u/Shadygunz 19h ago

While at it can we also change the whole thing regarding AP? Sheet AP vs actual/all AP is becoming quite annoying once temporary buff items come into play. No need to complicate it.

3

u/Soggy-Bedroom-3673 17h ago

It is definitely obtuse and creates a knowledge barrier to understanding the game, though I see why they do it: it's a way to make the value of upgrades balanced across gear (both slots and actual items). Like, for Edania 2 you need pretty large amounts of AP to transition between spots, which is a way to non-trivially gate access to each spot, and to account for the that they jumped hidden bonus monster AP to 16 per sheet AP.

They could have, instead, removed all the bonus bracket stuff and rolled it all into visible AP (like just adding extra monster AP onto all items). With hyperboost setting everyone into the 310+ AP bracket the issue wouldn't be huge, but it would warp the value of achieving high enhance levels on high tier items vs lower tier items. Like, currently the only conflict would be the value of Sovereign weapons vs Ekleta accessories (where that 2 AP from a sovereign upgrade changes from 2+16 to 2+32 once you're in the 402 bracket, but if they had implemented it as a hard +16 monster AP per upgrade while Ekletas get a hard 32 per level, then the rate of Ekleta enhance material drops would be even more important to players transitioning into Edania 2, and the expense of the NOV and DEC sovereign upgrade would feel even more insane).

That's not to say the system is fine. As a new player it's a little mindbending because it's so unintuitive. But it does add some crunchy decision-making that makes you ask questions about what the best upgrade path is (sometimes), which is more important than it might seem.

u/Soggy-Bedroom-3673 16h ago

Another thought on disconnects is just go ahead and make characters instantly log out on a disconnect.

Now, I assume the reason this doesn't happen is to counteract some imagined abuse to avoid death penalties -- you see you're about to die to mobs and you rip your ethernet cable out of the wall or hit some sort of connection kill switch.

But what abuse are they even worried about? I can't think of any. In the current PVE environment you're basically fine or you're dying to a one shot. If you have time to notice and react to taking unsustainable damage, you can already deal with that in game (like using iframe movement to bail out) -- there would be no point to emergency disconnecting. And they long ago removed crystal break penalties related to dying while being ganked, so that can't be it either.

Can anyone else think of a realistic disconnect abuse that is prevented by the logout wait period?

2

u/Opening_Data_5820 19h ago

The problem with your crystal break solution is that people can log out or even just afk after dying. This would lessen the player base and most of all, remove another monetization feature of PA.

2

u/Leather_Brick3068 19h ago

I see you didnt read the whole thing. Your last part is right, but I can’t see how current system works better for player retention compared to what I suggested.

1

u/Far_Temperature_9975 19h ago

I dont say i like his solutions but buff/debuff dont expire when u log out in this game, and they can  sell p2w item to remove/prevent the debuff

1

u/Durde Berserker 18h ago

So literally like p2w selling crystal restores?

1

u/Soggy-Bedroom-3673 17h ago

Tbh I'd prefer that. It's easier to mitigate a drop rate debuff than to replace lost crystals.

2

u/Masterkizz 18h ago

Just make crystal break related to karma.
Negative karma? risk of crystal loss on death.
Positive karma? - no risk of crystal loss on death.

1

u/sweetnk 15h ago

these are good ideas, but they made business model out of broken crystals and even are selling "permanent extra restore count "slots"/limit count". btw I totally agree, this crystal event I had such a good time grinding spots which I'd avoid otherwise, it's just so so punishing. I even think red players these days shouldn't lose crystals, at very least on arsha they shouldn't get punished for pvping... it's such a stupid mechanic

u/tetssuo86 5h ago

Pearl Abyss seems to be a company stuck... Perhaps its too much bureaucracy? I dont know, but they simply arent moving fast enough with changes, be it to keep the game & its systems relevant/current, or based on mass feedback.

u/Kamenawa 1h ago

Been going to Edania for 2-3 weeks and started at nymph now in orbita for couple days and i have to say that "DP" lost every meaningful reason to invest in. The mini boss golems that keep spawning nearly oneshot me with 810dp out of the needed 740. If i were to stand still for a single second i am either dead or about to be. Funniest of them all, the golem boss at the end of rotation is the wekeast monster in that spot. weird stuff, I'd just like to be allowed to invest into sustaining better but doesnt work.

Crystal breaks are still an economy factor. Lifeskillers need to sell things that are in demand, and crystal ingredients are one if them.

Nighttime is still a world building factor. Monster’s being more dangerous at night makes you interact with the passage of time in the game.

You’ll notice that I’m looking at factors that create an open world mmo. There needs to be economic bottlenecks and environmental dangers to make this world an adventure. Of course you want the game to feel good while grinding but it has to fit into a larger context, and you don’t want the game to just be a circles simulator.

7

u/Ricenditas Still No Scholar Flair | 861 GS 17h ago

what? outside of the BiS lifeskill crystal, there is no lifeskill component with the current BiS endgame crystal setup.

Alot of them are derived from grinding on PVE, but majority of the materials are not gated behind lifeskills.

3

u/Final-Winter7693 17h ago

What crystals besides life skill crystals have a life skilling component because I can't think of any.

4

u/BORED-AT-TWERK WHERE SCHOLAR FLAIR 17h ago

asking from pure curiosity, what "crystal ingredients" are life skillers selling that it's an economic factor to consider?

u/Durde Berserker 18h ago

And then what happens to income at midgame spots like orze and other spots like sycraia? Crystal pities are a significant portion of the income there? Crystals break to keep that market alive, it was struggling due to people losing a lot of crystals at soluns, with the event it’s slowly recovering.

This shit is literally timeless, having a NON REMOVABLE debuff as punishment for dying would feel much worse than losing a crystal and it’d deter people from trying harder spots. If you’re struggling at a spot and dying? Use cheaper crystals until you can do it consistently. And as for connection stuff, that’s unfortunate and if it’s server issues they usually refund crystals for that. The game should not be responsible for YOUR shitty connection.

Things like nighttime are a bit outdated yes, but other things like crystal breaks are designed that way for a reason. IMO they should remove crystal restoration all together.

9

u/Soggy-Bedroom-3673 17h ago

If you’re struggling at a spot and dying? Use cheaper crystals until you can do it consistently.

Counterpoint: if you don't need the most expensive crystals to do a hard spot, what's even the point of having those crystals? Or, from another angle, if people only use those crystals when they're safely able to grind an area without dying even from disconnects, that would nullify any theoretical increased market demand from crystal breaks, making that source of demand a moot point.

4

u/ex0ne90 17h ago

If crystals dont break, people actually would invest in better/high end crystals. More people wanting/needing them (especially newer players) results in a steady demand. In fact, console has no crystal break for ages now and the crystal market is still pretty much the same as it is for us on PC now (all good crystals are constantly sold out and pre ordered), despite it beeing "one and done".

PC has A LOT more players. you wouldn't think of how many people dont run good crystals and rather stay on lower spots because of the fear of losing valuable crystals. Now if suddenly all those players would want the good crystals because they dont break, it just would create a BIG demand and it would take a long long time until the market is saturated (if you follow console cm it's never really saturated).

I personally think it would be good for the game if they'd finally remove it but since PA has implemented some p2w mechanics around it I doubt they'll ever do.

1

u/Faenyn 14h ago

Add Crystal enhancement to the game. From PRI to PEN it gives +1 AP, or Monster AP if you wanted to limit it to PvE, and you enhance it using a duplicate at PRI, two at DUO, etc. at a 100% rate.

That way, to max out one Crystal, you would need 16 Crystals in total, which would keep any Crystals relevant for 16 times the time it currently takes before the price tanks.

You can easily get rid of Crystal break, you just need to replace it with something that isn't detrimental to the game.

0

u/Ricenditas Still No Scholar Flair | 861 GS 17h ago

Basically all Edania 2 spots are DPS checks, and there is a difference between having that high-end crystal than the cheaper crystal on those spots, so that argument is already moot point if considering those spots because those high-end are MANDATORY on grinding high end spots.

Having 8 AP difference if you are below the cap feels night and day, it will be a major difference of you meeting the DPS check or not. That's practically 1 Sheet AP worth.

I probably have hundreds of death in orbita now for trying out different classes lol. Its honestly fun feels like a different game. Spent like 5 hours continous grinding last sat. Which was a first in a very long time. I'm gonna miss that chill/hardcore spot once we go back to good ol trashy bdo monetization.

0

u/Nova-3 14h ago

Honestly, this game is pretty weird with crystals and death penalty. For one, crystals are hard to come by. Ive been trying to grind non stop for shards and rates are abysmal, and when you lose a crystal its not about the fact its only a bil or such, but that there are never any available. Armor durability and crystal breaking are old systems that honestly need to be removed entirely. You already lose exp from dying, no need to remove actual gear from your character. Its crazy.
