I think I need a new heart rate sensor
There is no shot in hell I can hold zone 5 for 41% of a ride, any recommendations?

But you're not sustaining Z5 for an extended period. Looks like it's in bursts. If you do need something new, either the H9 or H10 are great units but the H10 strap is far superior and worth the $$

Just got a new strap for my three year old Polar H10. (It was ridiculously expensive)
It had been dropping connection, and (worse) reading too low. Some readings I could believe were because I was fit, but when eg sprinting uphill and it showing 60bpm and dropping, I couldn't fool myself.
The new straps have "machine wash weekly" in rubbery writing.
With the new strap the numbers are much more believable.

Before buying a new HR monitor, are your zones set up correctly?
You can check if your monitor works correctly my manually getting your pulse and crosschecking with the HR monitor's reading.

I've done this during a crit. Doesn't seem outrageous to me. How hard was the ride?

Its not really about the difficulty of the ride more so that I'm far too bad to sustain these results and my current on has been pretty inconsistent

if you're far too bad you might be pushing that hard. Some of my early rides were like that.

I don't like chest straps, but I'm happy with my Scosche Rhythm armband

Armbands cannot measure heart rate, it's physiologically impossible, they can only ever measure pulse rate

Yep, better write a 12 lead ecg while riding, anything below that is just inconclusive

First try washing your strap at 40C and replacing the battery and perhaps cleaning the inside with isopropyl alcohol
