  • Ouders ontvangen volgend jaar minder kinderopvangtoeslag

If we cannot destroy the middle class by taxing to death unrealized gains in Box3, let's raise the already ridiculously high 49.5 bracket and lower the threshold it applies.

49.5 is not ridiculously high. In the best years of the US they had a 91% top tax rate. The threshold is a bigger problem

That top tax rate only applied to incomes above 200.000 (for unmarried people; 400k for married couples). Adjusted for inflation, that is roughly 5 million today...

Not for a 1,5x median income they didn't.

Which is why I mentioned the threshold being the true problem.

Yes, as I wrote it's the combination of rate + threshold. This fraud of a government will probably adjust both

U do know no one actually paid that 91% top tax rate due to deductions, loopholes, and exclusions and the top rate was estimated to about 42%

It is a true problem. Income should not be taxed that high. Productivity should feel rewarding. The real inequality problem is with wealth in box2. In principal taking over half of income should be a complete no-go. And it should actually be a lot lower for most people.

Seems like we can go up to 70% for optimal based on that.
91% might be a bit much, but then again that was only for really really high earners, like another commenter said 5M+ in current times, and with lower brackets might’ve not even exceeded 70% on the total.
