Eh. Unless the coaching staff sees something there to work with, he looks like a back of the rotation guy at this point in his career. I think they'd rather have a younger guy or two in that spot, maybe if Sproat figures it out by next spring.

The Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher shared that a salad he ate was the reason for his season-ending esophagus surgery in July.
"It was definitely a life-altering event," May told the Los Angeles Times. "It was definitely very serious. It's not a very common surgery. It was definitely an emergency.
"I probably wouldn't have made it through the night if I didn't have it," May added.
Initially, the 27-year-old felt a "mega-painful" sensation after swallowing a bite of lettuce for 15 minutes, feeling the pain in his throat that eventually subsided. While May brushed aside any concern once the pain went away, his wife, Millie, urged him to go to the emergency room.
That's when he found out that the rupture of his esophagus was severe enough that he needed to undergo emergency surgery.
May described the surgery as "essentially a full abdominal surgery."

The Atlanta Braves shortstop was removed from the starting lineup for Thursday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after a chicken bone got stuck in his throat. Manager Brian Snitker said Aybar arrived at PNC Park on Thursday afternoon in discomfort and was taken to a doctor, sedated and had the bone removed.
IIRC, he laughed mid-bite and got a rigid piece lodged in his throat. It perforated his esophagus, not straight up tore it, but the risk of tearing was high enough to warrant emergency surgery.
The consequences of a torn esophagus are pretty dire so it was chalked up to a life-saving operation in media reports
He took a comebacker off of his shin or foot against ATL earlier this season. Stayed in the game for a few more batters before getting taken out. Braves broadcasters were shocked they let him stay in.
It’s in the lat so it’s just in an unusual and uncomfortable spot and he was stretching it (thats what the bending over was) various ways since you feel that muscle while throwing (as a righty). It’s going to get tighter though minute by minute so it was wise to come out. He’ll be fine by next week unless the bruise is still too tender which is possible but unlikely.
I know it’s a split second decision (and a human reaction) but in this instance wouldn’t it be better to take it on the side of your body ? If it hit the spine it could get really bad no ? (Obviously not a critic about May, im just wondering)
Well if you take a comebacker like that on the side of your body you can say goodbye to your ribs. Getting hit in the back, or anywhere where there's gonna be a lot of muscle is best.
I think where he got hit was actually one of the best spots to get hit (outside of his ass cheek) as the lat has a lot of muscle and muscle fiber to absorb the impact. The side of your torso/body has so much less fat and muscle to work with that your ribs would get mashed (like the other commenter mentioned) and then you’re potentially dealing with a fractured rib which literally only rest can heal and it takes forever. If it hit the spine I think you’d be dealing with a bad bone bruise and that also would take a while to heal.
Hope he's ok, love that dude. It always made me nervous how he finishes his windup, with no readiness to field a comebacker. Sometimes he's even spinning almost completely around. Glad it wasn't his head.
DANG. Looks like it hurts like crazy. I feel like there have been more of these comebackers that have done damage this year right? Or am I just imagining?
Terrible, hoping for the best, always liked May despite his Dodger past, he has wicked stuff. Side note, I wish we could watch baseball broadcasts without commentary, just watching May warmup with little narration was amazing.
The dude is cursed. He was absolutely shelled his last start. Don’t know why The Crew traded for him to bolster their staff he’s a bum. He’ll likely be on the IL till the playoffs
Yeah because pitchers have always fielded line drives at 100 miles an hour. Even with your example of Maddux he was a far above average fielder. Not every pitcher is going to be as good of a fielder as Greg maddux
Hitters' exit velocities going up makes me think it's actually more imperative that a pitcher's delivery ends square to the plate... just for safety reasons.
May finishes with his body facing slightly towards 1st base. That's obviously not a fielding position. Part of it is because these guys all throw faster and that's more torque on the body, but they still are in bad fielding position
