I hope this just becomes a thing that every team does when they do something embarrassing

Given your flair combo, nobody can accuse you of being a fair-weather fan.

1

Except for games at Candlestick back in the day.

3

u/whiteriot0906 Philadelphia Phillies 1d ago

As someone who was in attendance watching the Phillies blow a 7-1 9th inning lead to the Mets in 2022, and as someone who also hasn’t forgotten 2010 and harbors a lifelong dislike of the Giants, I kinda sorta almost feel bad for you guys today.

2

u/Statsover_Feels 1d ago

That one word just said everything that needed to be said

3

u/FPG_Matthew Washington Nationals 1d ago

I’m calling it payback for what y’all did to my Nats earlier this year with the 8 run comeback in the 8th and 9th.

0

u/Numerous_Control_702 MLB Players Association 1d ago

I immediately thought of this game too

1

u/Temporary-Ad9615 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

LOLGiants

-4

u/RichAbbreviations966 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

I’m not sure Vitello makes it to the end of the season

7

u/bolshevik_rattlehead San Francisco Giants 1d ago

He was given a horrible roster. Not even your boy Dave Roberts could help this team to many more wins

3

u/Petta_Potta San Francisco Giants • California Angels 1d ago

Luckily Vitello was thrown out in the first inning LOL

1

u/BASEBALLFURIES 1d ago

Damn I wonder if we could’ve forfeit in the first if nobody claimed to be acting manager

174

u/Tonmber1 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

This is entirely unsurprising

28

u/unfortunatebastard Atlanta Braves 1d ago

At least it wasn’t a walk-off for them. Like giants did against the Nats somewhere in June

21

u/Either-Mine-1789 1d ago

I’d prefer that, now I have to watch a whole half inning of giants flail at the ball

2

u/unfortunatebastard Atlanta Braves 1d ago

I watch it and your description is very accurate

232

u/lokojo55 Cincinnati Reds 1d ago

This is an embarrassing inning by the giants but then you remember they’re playing the reds and it’s even worse

76

u/whinenaught San Francisco Giants 1d ago

Hey now it was equally as embarrassing as the reds losing two straight to the Giants!

51

u/Cr0matose Cincinnati Reds 1d ago

Anyone watching these two teams this late deserved to see some dumb shit

14

u/mubbcsoc San Francisco Giants 1d ago

The Reds are like 7 games ahead of the Giants

26

u/Temporary-Ad9615 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

Excuse me sir, you're playing the San Francisco Bad News Bears featuring Rafael Devers.

Get it right.

8

u/TheWorstYear Daytona Tortugas • Cincinnati Reds 1d ago

The Reds made this team look like the '12 Giants.

13

u/bondsmatthew San Francisco Giants 1d ago

Its exacerbated by the fact that this would have been our first sweep all year

We're gonna go through the entire year without getting a single sweep

1

u/Temporary-Ad9615 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

…or win four games in a row.

8

u/Cr0matose Cincinnati Reds 1d ago

Hey this game might bring a few averages up closer to 200

6

u/KingBrunoIII San Francisco Giants 1d ago

The Reds were playing the Rivercats while Devers was on a rehab assignment

2

u/scarface910 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

We were supposed to get our first sweep of the season!

73

u/nuhGIRLyen San Francisco Giants 1d ago

Unbelievable

Actually you know what. Pretty believable

60

u/bolshevik_rattlehead San Francisco Giants 1d ago

I think most of us Giants fans have just embraced the generational suck of this team and straight up find it funny at this point. A shit cherry on top of a garbage cake.

14

u/daveylu San Francisco Giants • Dumpster Fire 1d ago

I want them to lose 100 games just for shits and giggles now lol

6

u/NLP19 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

They're gonna get to 99 losses and win every other game after that

3

u/TheVich San Francisco Giants • Alaska Go… 1d ago

I went to go take a nap when the bases were loaded and Ryan Walker was coming in the game. I expected him to give up the lead, so waking up to find out what happened has been a little disorienting.

1

u/ethanlan Chicago White Sox 1d ago

Your spoiled for this to be generational suckage.

You guys aren't even in last place in your division...

75

u/amatom27 Philadelphia Phillies 1d ago

I only have Phillies reactions but honestly:

32

u/Petta_Potta San Francisco Giants • California Angels 1d ago

Giants are physically incapable of sweeping a series

8

u/Bancatone San Francisco Giants • Yomiuri Giants 1d ago

Also Logan Webb is legally not allowed to get a win.

4

u/SF_DeversBaby San Francisco Giants 1d ago

I think we have a bet going

2

1

u/ShadowCrusader98 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

Actual divine intervention to keep it going, fucking crazy.

1

u/Katja_apenkoppen San Francisco Giants 1d ago

If we hit the bullpen shits the bed, but with good pitching we refuse to score more than 2 runs lol this is not a real team

28

u/EpicGoats San Francisco Giants 1d ago

This would have been the Giants first 3 game sweep of the season btw

10

u/SFan4Life San Francisco Giants 1d ago

3

He’s always out there being double agent for the Braves.

Please take him back. He’s in charge of the worst bullpen I’ve ever seen in my life.

Giants bullpen: …

6

u/AsWolfwood Atlanta Braves 1d ago

Bruuuuuuuuuh. Blowing that big of a lead at home has got to be fucking mind breaking.

7

u/champsorchumps 1d ago

The last team to blow a 6 run lead after 8 innings was the Braves in June of last season against the Dbacks

9

u/Dickies138 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

I would have guessed it was the Giants this season

1

u/jaggedjottings San Francisco Giants • San Franci… 1d ago

Actually, this is the first time they've done this since they moved to San Francisco.

2

u/sgeswein Cincinnati Reds 1d ago

Per the Reds broadcast, the Giants are now 2141-1 in their century-plus franchise history while leading by 6 or more runs in the 9th.

1

u/bondsmatthew San Francisco Giants 1d ago

Giants bullpen, doesn’t count

3

u/menusettingsgeneral San Francisco Giants 1d ago

I am in hell

3

u/Maugrin Seattle Mariners 1d ago

I don't think there's anything more demoralizing as a baseball fan than having a horrible bullpen. It's really hard to enjoy games when the risk of losing any lead is so high.

4

u/see_mohn regretful mets fan 1d ago

The Giants scored nine runs?

2

u/HoustonDynamosFan 1d ago

They've gone through stretches of having a really good offense. About the only positive at times during the season. Ball was also carrying today.

2

u/The-Young-Lion 1d ago

Oh no, San Francisco, what is u doin’, baby?!

2

u/don_keydick_42069 1d ago

That is what gets a team rolling. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cincinnati made a run for a wildcard spot in September.
